Fly Fishing Connetquot: Trout Catch and Cook
Переглядів 2412 місяці тому
So, i may be going to fly fishing hell for this but i decided to fish at Connetquot state park. The park is home to the Connetquot Trout hatchery and the river is stocked with about 500 trout every week. Is it shooting fish in a barrel? maybe. But it was still alot of fun. I even got a midsize rainbow in the cooler. I need to tie up some more nymphs and wooly buggers though.

Yes I caught a fluke on a fly rod. Yes it was right next to the shore. No I don’t know what to say in respond. Sometimes fish are much stupider than we give them credit.

So, once again I went fishing at Pepacton Reservoir and kept 2 smallmouth bass for eating. I gave one to my good friend, Wilson, and asked him to cook the other one for me. I hope you enjoy the video. first fish was caught on a keitech easy shiner, 4", bluegill flash, rigged on a 1/4oz jighead. The rest of the catch was caught on a green pumpkin hula grub rigged on a 3/8oz jighead.

Chain Pickerel Bonanza Featuring Keith
There are 30 sites available, so a max of 30 people can fish at a time. You have sole rights to fish on your site for your designated time period, usually 4 hours. There are 3 time blocks from April through September, and 2 for the rest of the year. I used to love fishing the Connetquot, but they made the rules more restrictive. You used to be able to take 3 fish and could wade the river, now it's only 2 fish and on most of the river, you have to fish from the bank or the fishing platforms. You can make a reservation a week in advance (only 30 reservations taken) but you cannot reserve a specific beat on the river until you arrive. Then it's first come, first served to pick your spot, so if you want to fish a particular site, you have to get there early. There is a hatchery on the river, so there are always plenty of fish. My best day there, I got 16 fish, mostly brookies. My best fish from there was an 18.5 inch rainbow. That was back around 1990.
I've been thinking about checking out the Connetquot but I'm a little confused on how it works. Do you pay to fish a certain section and you're just stuck at that one spot all day?
FISH ON 🗣️
Nice video! looks like it's pretty fun still at this time in the season
Nice fishing rod! Nice spot! Miller hollow?
nice fish man, nowadays there aren’t nearly as many bass as what it used to look like from ur vids. stills a good bluegill spot. i actually caught a mirror carp there. do you have any tips for crappie at herricks?
🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌
Nicee
Nice striper catch my friend. You all got some big ones. Liked and subbed from a fellow angler. Stay safe and connected!
help me understand why you descale if your going to cut skin off anyways ? just seems like a needless step and dulling the knife for no reason ?
Honestly, I have no clue. Like sometimes I just decide I’m going to keep the skin on, hence why I scale it, sometimes I decide to skin it. It does make it easier for me to make those first cuts and that is about it though.
Hey I'm on TV!
great seeing you here, glad more people are finding my content. Hope to see you out there again
Enjoyed the video. Also just subscribed to your channel for future vids. Keep up the great work and tight lines
The fish are eepy
Good video 👍
Great video. I see a lot of people stand on rocks. What is the reason for that?
Cause from the shoreline to the rock is about 1ft of water and any lure you have to retrieve through that gap will get stuck. Plus, the closer I am to the fish, the less hard I have to cast.😊
Great Video!!, I notice that the retrieval speed on the diamond jig, and Manhattan needle was faster than most people say to work them. was that to keep it from going to deep and snagging the bottom??
Yes, both the diamond jig and needlefish were a solid 3oz cause the fish were far out and I had already lost some bucktail jigs earlier in the day. I retrieved them fast to avoid snagging on the bottom. Not to mention, I find when fish are blitzing, fishing a lure slower gets me less bites cause it’s more time the fish can see the lure and realize it’s fake. Whereas if you are fishing the lure very erratic and fast, it might trigger a reaction strike. (Note this is coming from my experience trout fishing).
@@bronzebackbassing18 Last question, you noted that it took you 2 hours to get there at the light house. As someone who grew up in the South Bronx but now currently living in Connecticut, I'm assuming you're from Queens or there abouts. Is parking at the light house restrictive? are you require to have a vehicle pass to fish over night??
@@alexdolly6077I live on the Nassau county Queens Border and yes you do need a night fishing permit from NY state parks. I do have the permits but I had been at Montauk since 6:30 in the morning and wanted to get home by sunset.
stonks and I subbed
I've heard this reservoir has great fishing!!
u need to hire whoever did the filming that guy knows what hes doing
Great fish and great video! What kind of lure did that Bonito hit on ? Thanks for the video
A savage gear long cast minnow in sardine, 40g.
What setup are you using. Rod n reel?
the first combo is a ocean master travel spinning rod, 7' medium light and a shimano FX 2500 size, its a combo i usually use for fluke and porgies. the second combo is a daiwa emblem pro surf rod, 10', medium heavy, and a daiwa cross fire spinning reel, 4000 size. i did recently upgraded my spinning reel to a tsunami shield in a 6000 size cause the old reel didn't have the greatest drag and wouldn't lay over the line properly. I need to get back into adding what gear i use. Hope this helps
Open up UA-cam and the algorithm suggests this video after meeting you the other day. Technology! anyway sick catch great video! +1 sub
