I can't conceive the nucleus of all Begins inside a tiny seed And what we see as insignificant Provides the purest air we breathe But who am I to doubt or question the inevitable being For these are but a few discoveries We find inside the secret life of plants A species smaller than the eye can see Or larger than most living things And yet we take from it without consent Our shelter, food, habiliment But who am I to doubt or question the inevitable being For these are but a few discoveries We find inside the secret life of plants But far too many give them in return A stomp, cut, drown, or burn As is they're nothing But if you ask yourself where would you be Without them you will find you would not And some believe antennas are their leaves That spans beyond our galaxy They've been, they are and probably will be Who are the mediocrity But who am I to doubt or question the inevitable being For these are but a few discoveries We find inside the secret life of plants For these are but a few discoveries We find inside the secret life of plants Oh, oh, oh

The melodic movement in this song is that of Bach or Brahms. The guitarist adds a richness to the tune and the strings just soar then cascade like mist falling upon orchids. Very visual and beautiful song with Stevie's confident singing.

This project reminds me of the 'play with music' Threepenny Opera (Bertolt Brecht/Kurt Weill). Stevie Wonder was inspired (to create some of his finest music and lyrics) by the subject matter of the book (The Secret Life Of Plants) written by Peter Tompkins and Christopher Bird. The result of their collaboration was an unprecedented documentary film, with a sound track that greatly added to our understanding of the subject. and seemed to suggest that human emotions are inseparable from the natural order of things; that there is a unity of consciousness between all life forms. How can a blind man provide richly nuanced music and song that are in perfect harmony with complex visual images? Who else is asking that question? There should be a documentary about the making of the documentary, because this is truly extraordinary. I especially love this song. But what about the magnificent Black Orchid? So many! Wonders from Wonder. Love from Love.

Too Deep to describe the depth of this gut wrenching Beautiful work of art. Shows the vanity of Humankind to not care for other life forms on our Planet. It's Obviously evident that the lack of concern runs very deep within the Concious mind of the human species because they do not even consider the well being of those that are in their Human Family. Let only other life forms that occupy our mutual home Planet Earth. How Sad :0(......

I had just turned 20 and was overseas from Malaysia at University in the UK. This was one of the first albums I had bought with my hard-eraned hi-fi set stereo system. This and Send One Your Love would have to be among my most favorite compositions of all time by Stevie Wonder

Ντίνα Σταματάκη I was the same age when I first heard it... in New York... and still, i found few people who knew (and know) this profound and melodically gorgeous song. The album was considered a “flop” at the time. (Stevie was way ahead!) If you haven’t heard it yet, check out Gilberto Gil’s fabulous cover. Saludos!
