In this video, I examine the reason that my window switch down button was not working properly.
There are several ways that the window can not go down.
-Window Switch Failure
-Window Regulator Failure
-Window Motor Failure
In my case, the window motor was ruled out because the window sometimes went down, and definitely went up. You can hear the motor engage when the switch is pressed upwards.
Next, we would look at the switch and the regulator. You can see that I took apart the system and diagnosed both components. I'm not ultimately sure what ended up resolving my issues.
Either reflowing the switch board shored up some connection issues that I couldn't find in the switch board. Or possibly the amount of times I actuated the switch cleaned the contacts. Or possibly the Window Regulator board was installed in the plastic container upside down, somehow impairing it's operation. Either way, it's been about 6 months since making this fix and I've had no further issues. So whatever it was has been resolved.
I would say in most cases, you will open up that regulator board and find a broken solder joint. But you'll never know until you try! Yay old car problems!
