My motorsport career began working in PR in UK national and world rallying with Ford and Datsun. In Formula 1 I held senior commercial positions with Williams, McLaren and Arrows and and latterly as a consultant to Ferrari's sponsor Asprey with Michael Schumacher. Additionally I worked in Group C Sports Car Racing as Marketing Director of TWR Jaguar and I also had a four year period as the overall administrator of British Touring Car Championship. In that career I raised in excess of USD165m in sponsorship and have worked with a total of eight world championship winning drivers.
Today I work as a motivational speaker, event host and performance business coach. I am also a thrice published business author through 'Performance at the Limit - Business Lessons from Formula 1 Motor Racing' published by Cambridge. My website is www.richardwestassociates.com

The Jaguar XJR-15 Experience with Richard West & Driver Tom Robinson
Between January 1989 and the end of 1991, I was the Marketing Director of Tom Walkinshaw Racing's Silk Cut Jaguar Group C Team. As a proud team member I still celebrate winning the Daytona and Le Mans 24 Hour races in 1990 and I have many memories of both the XJ220 Road Car programme, and in particular the design and build of the legendary XJR-15 carbon fibre V12 2 seater supercar created by TWR Special Vehicle Operations.
How did I end up in the passenger seat in 2023?
In 1994 I was given a passenger lap ride of the Estoril Circuit in Portugal with non other than 3 times World Champion, Ayrton Senna, the newest team member of the Rothmans Williams Renault F1 Team. At that time I was the Director of Sponsorship and Marketing Services for the Williams Team and when Ayrton died at Imola that year, I lost my desire to sit in a performance car passenger seat.
After so many years, the owner of this R9R, Andrew Maynard, (this is the prototype model that became the Jaguar XJR-15) kindly offered me the chance to sit alongside Swallows Racing Director and Jaguar Challenge Champion, Tom Robinson to reunite me with this incredible creation.
Add the Le Mans winning 1988 Silk Cut Jaguar to the track at Castle Combe on a dry day at a Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club TrackSport day, and, well.....the rest is now history as they say! Please enjoy.......

As part of my Metro Trains Melbourne Training Programme, the Pit Stop Challenge formed an integral part of the day. Here is a short video showing the fastest time achieved in the 2015/2016 series of training days, an incredible 4.66 seconds by 12 railway engineering staff.

Lovely Video. Thanks for posting!!. Looked a great evening!!. So pleased to hear Ron at the end. I would imagine he was “challenging” to work for. I’m sure for many he was a pain in the Arse, but from the outside you couldn’t help but have a Soft Spot for him!!.
Never a pain but always a tough task master who never accepted second best. Hugely generous and loyalty was his number one driver and expectation. Those that worked for him including myself, we hugely proud of our time under his stewardship.
Let's not forget Emerson Fittipaldi who was world champion with McLaren...
He sure was and it was great to have him on video live that night for our guests.
Just finished watching the entire video. Although I'm only 29 and from Poland, I've been following F1 since 2006 and McLaren was my favourite team, and I was always interested in history of F1. That's why I'm here. Beautiful event. Thank you for putting it out there. Great to see Ron Dennis after many years of absence, smiling and relaxed. And all the people important in McLaren's story. And brilliant MC Mr West. McLaren in the black & silver West livery - that's my first memories of F1.

Totally! Ron Dennis made McLaren! Just think of what he turned it into and the drivers …….Lauda, Prost and the greatest of them all…….Senna! Just imagine if he could have walked on stage!
Whenever Ayrton's name is mentioned, people still hush. He was very special and that is why we were so pleased the Senna family joined us in November on that special gathering.
DC was and always will be a star driver - he's one who saw the opportunities which is why we still see so much of him on TV thankfully
