I'm a burnt-out twenty-something making video essays in my free time to pretend I'm a productive individual who's capable of finishing passion projects. Disclaimer: I tend to bring up Buffy the Vampire Slayer...a lot.
Thanks for watching, and all hail the UA-cam algorithm.

Of Puppets and Wrecking Balls: An Epithet Erased Analysis
Want to know something crazy, by the way? There was almost an “Avatar: The Last Airbender” musical. It was being made by a woman named Katherine Lynn Rose on UA-cam and got out a fairly impressive number of songs…until Viacom/Paramount/Nickelodeon got wind of it and shut it down for copyright reasons.
Nomad looks like glidedguy
I wonder what will happen now
Came across this video after watching Galavant for the 4th time, I like your analysis and I agree, King Richard is an amazing character, one of my absolute favorites from any entertainment medium. Also love the Avatar funko pops, I have the Zuko and Iroh ones myself.
Excellent essay, you captured the essence of this amazing experience. They named their daughter "Old Dolio". It's just... I'm reading a Miranda July short story collection, "No One Belongs Here More Than You" right now, and she comes up with some of the most unbelievable things I've ever read. Like this movie, they're mostly extremely bizarre, yet strangely touching. She goes into a whole bit about the picture of a whale on a birthday invitation stick on a fridge, and i kinda wished i would've died right there, with this being my very last thought.
Something about the scene where she's face down on the massage table and the tears are falling straight down out of her eyes just killed me.
To think I was one of the few that saw the trailer in ABC of season 1. Saw the season 1 and season 2 in ABC, I LOVED IT FROM THE VERY BEGINNING. Especially the first song where it goes "and asked her for her hand, well more like a demand, well more like have his henchmen snatch her" killed me and still does.
Also loved King Richards growth.
I tried finding the soundtrack cd and after checking eBay for a year I found each season disk for 90$ EACH from France. The show is so underrated it’s soooo good though
Uh...i would say the best part about the anthology was The Mercs they stole the spotlight.
I rewatch this serie at least once a year. It's such a fun catchy show and I hope someday SOMEHOW it gets revived as a cartoon musical or something.
Please keep rewatching it on Hulu if possible because it will only stay streaming if Hulu sees it's getting views! I put it on and just let it run and run. Disney (which made it) doesn't care about the show much and kept it off all streaming for nearly two years. So we all need to watch it like crazy iin hopes they see there are viewers!
@@cruz9530 Oh dude screw that, just pirate it mate
Fantastic video essay
I'm okay with it only having gotten 2 seasons, but I would like a reunion where they're trying to stop Madelana &/or save her from herself. Galavant & Isabella load up their 3-7 children on a family road trip quest (making all of the VonTrapp jokes). Tad Cooper is only ever a a shadow overhead, occasional fire, & sound effects, just really lean into the budget constraints. This would also be Sid's time to shine as the hero of the piece.
What bothers me the most is that this movie has no moral. All Disney movies I can think of, even the bad ones or the ones I don't like, has a moral that applies to real life that it's trying to teach its audience. With Wish, I feel like the plot is way too specific. Like you said, the film refuses to take a stand on basically anything. It's not clear what the wishes are supposed to represent or what the analogy is, how this applies to real life. It's not even very clear if Asha learned anything by the end of the movie. So yeah, while other Disney movies all have lessons and messages that they want to teach to the viewer, Wish ends up coming across as completely lacking a message. What are kids supposed to learn when they watch this? "Don't start a cult that erases people's memories"? Sure, I mean, it's not like that's physically possible anyway 😂
1:38 Just so Hazel Levesque could see it, I presume.
I also rewatched the whole show on dvd when I saw it on the shelves in target back in 2018. I felt like I jumped on the train too early lol
Very well written, I enjoyed this very much
My friend introduced this to me recently. I have two complaints. Why wasn't this in my life earlier. And I want more
I think her being a Kyoshi warrior makes sense. While at work she can do her athletics, cool stuff and teaching the others in a positive way, while still being able to go home and be herself when she wants to.
Re: The Shipping Wars. I didn’t even process Aang and Katara’s relationship as a romance when I was a kid, and honestly…there’s no reason why Katara wouldn’t be more comfortable with Aang than with Zuko. He’s closer to her in age and ideals, they’ve known each other longer, he’s sincere and utterly devoted to her and not a temperamental mess of rage and pain…
Romantic subplots are easily the weakest parts of both The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. Save for Sokka and Suki, I didn’t really care for any of the main pairings. That being said, I agree with you-Zuko’s too much like Katara, whereas she and Aang balance each other out.
@@JennyCook57 Dana Terrace has famously said she does not care for romance all that much, and so that’s a big reason why Luz and Amity just get to be in love without any needless complications. Although honestly, I will say that I kind of get the feeling that the Korra writers’ room eventually realised how much the Korra/Mako/Asami love triangle wasn’t working until they finally sat down and said to themselves and each other “You know what might, though….?”. And besides, I think the thing is that neither ATLA nor “The Owl House” are about Eros. “The Owl House” is a tale of Storge about the complex relationship between a girl and her two mother figures while ATLA and TLOK are both stories about Agape and having a duty to the whole entire world and trying to balance that with a love for specific people.
ty lee is strong, funny, positive, AND employed. what a queen
The west side story remake is better than that whitewashed / brown face original

After reading the entire prison of plastic. The two parts which broke me was Molly's mental break down, and Odi's backstory. Btoh which ahd amde a grown ass man like me, cry.
16:53-17:31 I don't think this'll ever happen; some of those movies were genuinely good, and the ones that weren't still aren't viewed in high regard today.
This video is so well made I'm baffled it doesn't have more attention, I think you vocalized the crux of the issue of Wish's story perfectly, and honestly I feel less antagonistic to the film after it being dissected this way :)
It deserved way better
Still trying to hunt this down on physical dvd format… Good luck to me, lol. 🙄
I need to say this because it kind of threw me off in this video, but narcissists are in fact capable of love and that a person or character being loving towards their partner is not a tick against them being a narcissist.
I think you expressed the reason i think the show failed. The show was supposed to be about Galavant but instead it was about Richard. In fact, by the end, the show was so much about Richard that Galavant had almost no motivation anymore. I realized this with the recap song in the second to last episode. It was all about Richard. That being said, I loved the show and wanted one more season. Also, Tad Cooper is the best dragon name ever.
Wish is definitely a movie I have spent WAY too much time overanalyzing. It’s frustrating because Wish has several elements that would have made the movie great if they were explored even a little. Even ignoring the earlier concepts like Starboy and the villain duo, Wish had the potential to be a solid story. More than boring, it’s unfulfilled, which leads to so much curiosity on how even small changes would have helped.
It's really wild to me that they could've had a deep story about wishes and it's consequences, but demonized Magnifico and made his point moot.
This is such a well done video though, I like how well thought out your script is
Omg Roosterteeth being the childhood nostalgia is so real though...
My favorite movie. One that which you gave me more insight and emotion when rewatching it. Thank you.
NO NEED FOR THE BROTHER BEAR SLANDER!!
Good video that really nails how Wish should have been more anti-monarchy to go along with it's themes of wishes being striped away by systems of power and control. I personally wouldn't say it's strictly anti-Magnifico the person since he feels like a character second and metaphor first. While this movie is very flawed, I still really like the way it tackles the wishes as a part of someone's soul and the life struggle that not everyone will achieve it. It's easy to want to ignore this feeling of longing, but that giving up and conforming leaves people empty. I will never forgive cutting the 'A Wish Worth Making' scene that would have been the best song in the movie, seriously look it up. Wish could have been so much better, but I still defend it in ways.
4:58, foreshadowing there. Asha leads a rebellious mob that overthrows Magnifico at the end of the movie partly inspired by her grandfather
3:52, which makes the point that I’ve been saying about this movie. It’s a poor man’s version of School’s Out: The Musical from The Fairly OddParents. Since Timmy Turner reckons that “kids just being kids” having fun is a good thing so he doesn’t really care about the consequences while on the flip side Flappy Bob thinks order is a good thing so he goes too far in the opposite direction and Flappy Bob and Timmy Turner are both wrong
1:48, Rooster Teeth. Are they the ones who used to host Death Battle?

This video popped up in my recommendations and I really enjoyed this! Very well written!
I watched Galavant when it was on TV, watched it multiple times since, and bought it, so I can watch it many more times. And I tell everybody that they need to watch the show and so far, nobody who has been gently forced to watch it has ever regretted it. And yes, I also always mention Weird Al and the Singing Monks.
