    Has anyone ever noticed that the directions they give you have the further spacing of 24 cm on the right side when the actual moonboards have it on the left. I just noticed this after drilling the holes for mine and cant decide which way to set it up now.

    • @maartenblomme5311
      @maartenblomme5311 4 роки тому

      Kenton Anderson From the documentation I’ve found, it’s on the right side. But the spacing at the sides doesn’t really matter as long as the spacing of the grid itself is correct.

      Thanks! It’s always nice to hear. About the wall, the boards itself are actually not holding up very well. So make sure to protect the edges of the boards and if you can the tnut holes against the weather. But for being outside for five years it could have been worse.

    Great video, thanks Maarten! I'm building a board using a similar design - I love the order you did things in, very smart. One question: the long 2x4" boards you are using, are they 14 feet? Or longer? The main board is about 12' so I'm assuming that's what you've got, but I want to make sure they are long enough to still go into the ground. Thanks!

    • @maartenblomme5311

    Great video, Maarten. Do you have a material list with measurements by any chance? Also, how deep did you dig the post holes? • @maartenblomme5311
      @maartenblomme5311 4 роки тому

      (A copy from answer on Instagram, so everyone with the same questions can read) Hi Chris, There are indeed a few things I would change. The two poles in the front are a bit in the way sometimes (or at least in my head) for dynamic moves. Which holds you back when climbing. I would like to have made it a bit more weather proof, and even indoors if I could, Belgian weather is not so nice. So it has deteriorated over the years, the boards are starting to show signs of rotting unfortunately. The back of the wall was protected later with plastic sheets. Which is definitely necessary. If you're local climate allows to be outdoors a lot, I would definitely build it again outdoors. Unfortunately during winter it's not used. But I liked the building process a lot. In the beginning it's really nice and you use it a lot and after a while i started to use it less, but that all depends on your motivation offcourse.

    Nice video. I'd caution against embedding wood foundations directly into concrete. The moisture that travels thru the concrete encourages the wood to rot. Significantly reducing the lifespan of the structure. Consider using a steel post support. eg: www.bunnings.com.au/uni-pier-adjustable-screw-top-head-with-antcap-to-suit-unipier-75-x-75-posts_p0028539 Or at least treat the timber with a moisture barrier, eg: Tar \ Bitumen &/or choose a timber with a high Rot Resistance rating.

    Besides the danger of the concrete/wood combination: excellent idea I will use your construction idea.

  • @oliviabaklaton4552
    @oliviabaklaton4552 7 років тому

    Danger: wood should not be in direct contact with concrete/beton: the beton always attracts the moisture out of the earth/atmosphere and gives it to the wood. The wood starts to rot. Do not be surprised if after about 5-10 years the construction will fall together.
