BMW Seattle alum here, alignment has nothing to do with that tire damage. That's caused by spinning the tires, not rotating them, and they have been worn to the belts. New tires is the fix. Any shop telling a BMW owner this is a rip-off. I would think 90% of BMW owners is fully aware that the rear camber on independent rear suspension will wear the inside edge out faster, that proper rotation intervals will make the full set of tires last longer, and that abusing the car by spinning the tires is fun, but it can wear your tires out in minutes. If I saw the tech's pulling this crap, the first thing I would suspect is that a lot attendant or a technician had just burned those tires to the belts, not the owner. Like right now, I'm thinking this guy with the ball cap on just smoked those tires and now he and the service advisor are going to upsell the customer on a set of tires and an alignment, which is a real moneymaker! Alignment is all labor and no parts, no parts, no waiting for parts. These guys probably have a set of used tires already off another customers car, " We have a good used set for $800 plus mount and balance, and nitrogen". " You don't want to have a blow-out"!
How does a BMW get a bad alignment on both sides in nearly the exact same way??? With the age and obviously newness/low miles of that vehicle, that looks almost like a bad alignment from the factory, OR this is a factory alignment like I’ve heard of BMW’s getting. like it was PDI’ed incorrectly. The alignment is so bad the tires still look new. Anyhow, I’m genuinely asking how that happens nearly equally if not done from factory? I’d argue that’s exactly how BMW aligns them.
@ see, this is what I find so odd, their suspension system is designed to maintain caster/camber settings through their range of suspension travel, so, putting additional stress on the inside of the tire and causing premature wear, really early in the tires life ISN’T going to offer best performance or handling for day to day aggressive driving. Hear me out, wearing a tire to the wires means the tire is deep into the compound very quickly into the tires life and scrubbing the tread means this super special alignment they did for best performance is actually worsening the tires performance starting on day one. How is this smart. I can understand a slight bias to the inside of the wheel, but leaving the rest of the wheel pristine while breaking the tire down ins short order will not offer best performance. All it does is f’s up the tire about 75% faster than necessary. I doubt if we weigh tire wear against the benefits of that alignment type, that it would work in BMW’s favour from a performance perspective when you are just leaning hard on the tires wear behaviour from day one. Basically it will never work better than the day you put those tires in and then taper off from there. That’s just stupid for a car that has no reasonable chance of winding up on a track in North America. Sure they can and do, but look at their customer base and no one can convince me that 99% of BMW owners benefit from this alignment ethos when only 1% might even see a benefit. Anyhow, rant done. Sorry it’s not directed at you. It’s the stupidity of it. It’s like how you would set up a press car on track day, not a normal human. What a waste.
That is a proper Bmw wheel alignment. Everyone I’ve ever owned wears at the rear tires like that, and I only get them aligned at the dealership with the weights of a full tank of gas.
@@223criz2 looks like outer toe wear, but it's in the rear tires. Usually happens when cars are riding too low due to excessive weight in the rear, happens in a lot of EV's and I've seen it in some BMW's. Sometimes from warn suspension components. Under inflation and negative camber can also cause similar wear. The driver should get his suspension checked and potentially adjusted, rotate tires more often, and obviously replace those 2 rear tires. Just calling it alignment leaves alot out. Fitment likely isn't an issue here, and rubbing doesn't cause wear like this. OC is braindead.
To be fair, most people were probably there to see the drill bit get pulled from the tire. The Porsche Turbo was running in a big group, so most of the onlookers are members of that group.
I've found that the two keys to an easy plug repair are.. 1. make the hole quite large with the reamer.. 2. Use a little rubber cement on the plug to make it slippery. Also, in some cases it's actually easier to do it with the tire still on the car as it can take quite a lot of force when you start with the reamer, and it's made harder if the tire is off the car and moving around.
@@zebentley12 Well, over the years, I've done it twice on rear tires on my truck in-situ and once with the tire off just recently and found the latter to be more of a hassle because the tire was constantly moving around, which is why I made the comment. Yes I was laying on the ground to do the first two, but I actually had more leverage while I was pushing/pulling the reamer and plug setter. To each their own.
If you talked faster and did less of these cringy joke videos in between it would be a super fun video. I had to set the playspeed to x1,25, I started to lose concentration into listening what you explained.
I went to the local Porsche Dealer Service and ordered a new set of tires for my 4GTS. If course, 4-wheel alignment as I hadn't done same since the last tires, replacing them with 12,000 miles as they were 7-years old (and only changed them due to the age). So I said "replace the battery" in the TPSM, they said you needed to get the whole TPSM parts which included (4) 9A7-907-275-06 sensor modules and (4) 9P1-601-361-F Valves ($896.00 plus $124.56) total $1030.88 plus local taxes. Did I get taken for a ride?
For that kind of money I’d expect brass tri-crimp self locking nuts like oem use or at the very least a spring washer. Using a nylon nut is straight up wilful negligence

It is how BMW align it, or any other german rear drive car. They are setup for the best grip and roadholding, that means they wear like that.

I asked for 1° les angle on my rear tires and now they hold more then a year 😂
Saved a tire ? I hope it keeps dry over there ,, that tyre is almost a slick . And a plug repair on a high performance car is just stupid .
U need a new set of tires idiot
Looks like someone was jealous!
When is this video from? And do you know who the guy with the Pirelli hat on? He looks IDENTICAL to someone I know
Never seen so taking the tire off for a plug
Geez give the guy some room to work.
they probably all chipped in for his gas money also with them bald ass tires
All those people just to put in a rope plug, not even a proper plug n patch
Next thing u know, the tire explode on the highway when rolling at 170mph #temporaryfix
Just a death wish repairing that tire and driving it.
Dont they get out much? 😂
I’ve never seen so many people that interested in a flat tyre 😂😂😂
Didn’t look like there was much tread left
That tyre was as bald as my head lol!!
Conti dws06?
Not exactly true. Over sized tires, incorrect wheel fitment. Possibly loose inner fender materials causing rubbing at certain speeds.
You're wrong, but this guy is too
@@sb2hi mean is it not the alignment how are they wrong lol

Not trying to hate but I feel like this was a terrible trade 😂
We subscribe to the philosophy of "to each their own..."
I’ve never seen it take so many people to fix a tyre😂

It's one guy and 30 people watching. This is normal.
i’ve never seen anyone spell tire “tyre”
@ tyre is the British/English term and tire is the American English. Since I’m British and lived in America for 15 years I use both 😂
The tyre was illegal!! Put your hand in your pocket and get some new rubber!!!!
The fix was temporary, he’s gonna change it eventually
Wrong size rubber

I’d agree if it was either of the front wheels but good luck getting a plug onto the rears without being able to turn the wheel.

Der Reifen ist aber auch fast blank, wenn man sich so ein Auto eben nicht leisten kann
naja, wenn der nur fast blank ist, dann muss man ihn ja noch nicht tauschen. mindestprofiltiefe reicht ja noch aus.
thank goodness for that drill.
We say that more than we should...
Love it! Im glad the shop is doing great!
Thank you so much!
I think you might want to consider a little more driving...learn about car set up...and make less videos.
That seems unkind
Congrats Josh on the new shop! I’ll stop by soon. I’m really excited about this channel! I see a lot of my friends cars there already! -Benson
We can't wait for you to stop by!
So because you won't call out the offending shop, you're saying... "don't go to any porsche shop around atlanta unless it's wolf pen".
Was that part of the script...? Because we don't think that was part of the script...
Merch????
Coming soon...
Is it loose?
The "best" always get sloppy when the owner is rolling in cash
so exited for this!!!
It's on now! More and more content incoming!
