I grew up there off of circle way. 1 square mile no stop lights and a booth for a police station. You didnt lock your doors and you left the keys in the ignition. Longos Bar and grill (Moms) owned by the Longos who lived had a house behind the bar. Ernie, guy and Chris? super nice family. My grandfather Roy Day would go there at night and sat at the bar drinking Reingold "the one beer to have when you are having more than one" (slogan) while I say at the bar having a squirt and chips. I was 4 years old! All patrons that went there were the Fireman the mailman (actually Meat the mailman was our mailman) The Hippies would hang out at the veteran park and the end of the block and "smoke" Truly a magical town and amazing time time to grow up its was as close as you could get to Mayberry MD that you could ever get. Went there like 10 years new owners, new hip crowd and some young girl bartending. I felt like what are these people doing in my old hangout! Told her the short version of the history of the bar "She said "Oh really" and walked away. Ahhhhh like they say "You can never go back" .. so true! I hope someone from this era sees this and comments!

Although the Twilight Zone punishes the wicked, it also rewards the good. This is the best example of that.

It's an absolute masterpiece of a scene. This is the most heart-wrenching creation Rod Serling was ever associated with. Or practically anyone else!! I tear up like an aqueduct every time I watch this scene. The man who commented that the actor portraying Arty Beechcroft is his father truly hits home. What a sense of pride he must have felt watching his father live on through this scene. Just as all of us can live on through those, we impact in a moving, powerful way. In one sense, the episode Changing of the Guard will never change. It never fails to make you cry. May we all have half so powerful a play to tell.

This just showed up in my UA-cam feed from 14 years ago. Absolutely one of my favorite Twilight Zone episodes if not my favorite. Still brings tears to my eyes. So much meaning but -- I am feeling quite like Donald Pleasance right now.

I have seen all Twilight Zone original series episodes; many multiple times . I have been professionally diagnosed by a psychiatrist as Schizoid Personality Disorder in adult. This means i have blunting of emotions. Despite this, every time I see this episode the tears flow.

So, all the students he inspired are dead.

Many of todays teachers will never teach this ideas today. Sad.

One of my all time favorite episodes proving that people can touch lives and have impact on others as those memories last a lifetime, believe me I had teachers and professors that I've felt that have made an impact on me!

Earlier, Prof. Fowler tells Mrs. Landers 5 different things which he Believed (mistakenly in his own mind) were the causes of his "failure". I very carefully and deliberately avoided all 5 of his "indications". That's why I KNOW I am successful in launching the careers of students I mentor. The only sad part is that about half do Not come back to thank me. In the Bible, Jesus heals 10 men of leprosy. They continue down the road. Only 1 turns back to thank Jesus. He answers: "I thought there were 10. Where are the other 9?" No matter that I never hear from half. It just makes me try harder. One "apprentice" recently called me 20 years afterward, and explained how the lessons I taught him are now being passed on to his 10 year old son. Another, from 3 years ago, just texted. He told me how my efforts pointed him in the right direction, and helped him get back on track. And how it is changing his life! Fowler reads the inscription on the statue of Horace Mann (who founded our American system of FREE schooling to all, K-12). It's a quotation from Mann: "Be ashamed to die before you have won some victory for humanity." After 65 years of life, and 50 years of private and commercial teaching, I am NOT ashamed to die. I have won many victories. And continue to do so.

This is an absoloute fave of mine . This also reminds me of one of my teachers who pushed us really hard .Well there was some talk going around about they were going to fire him . All of us kids got together and went to the school board meeting and told them in our own way why they should not fire him . I believe I told them that he was the reason I was going to Boston college in the fall and the only reason and if it had not been for him i probably would not have even thought about going to college .so Thank You Dr . Harvey Limwell . May you rest in peace .He passed in 1983 .

This is wonderful moment in the history of TV. The two teachers who opened my world I never met Carl Sagan and Joseph Campbell. They opened me to new readings which would shape and form me. But as a person we all must be as Campbell put it ' Affective Agents ' in other lives. If you just help one person to do as Krishan advised Arjuna ' Become Yourself '.
