Push-up challenge finale 23 06 2020
I was challenged by my old medical school friend Penny Pawson to do at least 25 Push-ups per day for 25 days to raise awareness of PTSD, anxiety and depression that drives some to suicide. This is my final day, when after a few beers to steady myself, I attempted at least 50 reps (1 for each year of my life). Here's what happened

A description of how urinary catheters work and what catheter drainage options are available eg. leg/night bags (which keep the bladder empty all the time), and flip-flow valves (which allow the bladder to fill and empty as close to possible as normal). CORRECTION: The number on the catheter is the CIRCUMFERENCE of the catheter in millimetres.

Laser enucleation of the prostate is the only endoscopic procedure feasible for ANY size prostate, and is a safe alternative to open prostatectomy. There is no upper size limit. This is one of the largest documented HoLEP cases which has involved tissue morcellation rather than cystotomy to remove the enucleated prostate lobes

Here I explain the use of the very realistic HoLEP simulation prostate model that was developed at Kansai University, Japan. It offers an excellent training resource for those wanting to learn the HoLEP technique. The beauty of this simulator it is that the actual holmium laser and HoLEP instruments are used, and the model contains a realistic anatomical plane between adenoma and capsule.

This video shows high power Holmium Laser Bladder Stone Fragmentation. The Holmium laser can be safely used to fragment any size and type of bladder stone at the following settings: Energy = 2 Joules, Frequency = 50 Hertz, giving Power = 100 Watts. This allows rapid stone fragmentation with excellent visualisation. Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP) can then be performed if neces...

I’ve been in the hospital an antibiotic treatment seven weeks. I have a catheter. I will probably have a catheter for sometime after my treatments are finished. They actually just ended day before yesterday. I have pain in the tip of my penis.. It’s so bad that sometimes I don’t want to get up and walk around because the movement of the catheter going into me pulls on my penis with any movement. I desperately want a topical suggestion, please. I’ve gone onto Amazon and I’ve seen numbing creams that have lidocaine. I have no idea if a general rubbing cream that has lidocaine in it is appropriate for skin as sensitive and thin as the tip of my penis. I desperately want something, Laying or sitting around because I’m in so much pain due to the pulling of the catheter, on my penis with the slight movement, is no fun and unhealthy.. I want to be able to walk around and get some exercise.. so please any suggestions,

Hi Tev. Thanks for the information. Unfortunately my health care provider provide little to no information. On my third day at home I had an instance where I urinated past the catheter, creating not just a mess but a level of stress as I had not been warned that this can happen. I went back to ER, where they changed the catheter from a No 14 to a No 16, still with no explanation about expecting by-pass or whether it is normal. Is it normal? and is there something that can be done to avoid these unfortunate accidents?

So you recommended a lubricant probably reason that was helpful however, would you recommend if you’ve already developed a soreness? What kind of numbing cream would you recommend or not recommend? I looked up numbing cream on Amazon, but I’m concerned that some cream may not be good for an area around the penis.! The ones I’ve seen have lidocaine in it! So I have no idea. I certainly heard of lidocaine but what are your thoughts, please?

How many milliliters in the syringe I’m seeing a bunch of different sizes! ? can you use it more than once or how many times can you use it before you toss it? Can you clean it with bleach and then water? And thank you thank you thank you very much.! I have a butter infection that moved my blood. I’ve been on myosin for seven weeks now about to get out of here and manage my own, but I will have a catheter and fully strapped my leg.😅😅😂 we all gotta get by just laugh through life

Do not use a bladder syringe they have caused bladder injuries in the past hence why we don’t use them anymore. Special irrigation sterile bags can be prescribed by your gp. You can then be trained to do this yourself. High risk of urosepsis with catheters, cleanliness is paramount

I have used Foley catheters for three years now. I stopped using night bags because the catheters would end up getting clogged. I have a day bag which first thing in the morning I connect and it fills up which I drain right away. This seems to keep the catheter well flushed. drink plenty of water in the morning. I often keep the day bag connected for an hour or two. Once the bag stops collecting I disconnect it and place a clamp made for catheters. For the first two years I wore long pants to hid the catheter. Drain it as it filled up. Again I found the it would get clogged. Since I started using the clamp method I have not had to visit the er. When I was using the night bag if I failed to drink enough water during the day my catheter would be clogged in the morning. Before I got sleep I drink two glasses of water. Fist thing in the morning I connect to my day bag and drain. Works very well. A lot less stress.

I was born with spina bifida, been using intermittent catheters for around 25 years, i am about to have an op for a urethral stricture and its been suggested thst i change from intermittent catheters to a suprapubic catheter or other. Its up to me and from what ive seen i think i would prefer to stick to how im doing it, other ways just seem like too much hassle.

@tevaho This is a wonderful video. Very helpful because I just learned about the flip-flow valve. I wish you’d pay more attention to women’s issues. I’m a woman and I have uribe retention, therefore the doctor put in a catheter until my insurance approved a bladder stimulator. I’m hating the bags, the straps, so I bought the sleeves, the changing of the bags, etc, my granddaughter is graduating next week and I don’t know how the valve works. Thank you

I'm hoping to have my catheter taken out on the 1st of may. Is it ok to have a catheter on without the flip flow on it please could you let me know thank you very kindly

I agree that a patients may be taught to do this for themselves. Nurses are taught this as a sterile procedure using ,sterile gloves, sterile solution and cleansing of the connection site with an alcohol or chlorhexidine wipe before disconnecting to do this. Patients could have a stock of these things in the home in case they may need to do this. The water you buy bottles from a shop is likely clean but is not sterile.Having the right stuff to do this would reduce the chance of introducing infection.....otherwise, all very helpful tips.

Excellent video, Dr Aho. I had hernia surgery and the surgeon and hospital released me without determining if i could urinate.Six hours later I had to go to the ER for a catheter to relieve the excruciating pain and had a catheter put in place. ER gave me no instructions if I had complications. This video would have been a great help.
