Canon R5: amzn.to/3DIYnTT

    I was on Canon’s homepage today. The original is back up. I forget the exact price but around $3300- $3500. I was surprised & bummed a little. Was also bummed because I didn’t see a RF - TS lens available & the EF-50-TS & EF 90-TS are out of stock also. = bummer!

    • @MattRamseyTube
      @MattRamseyTube 13 годин тому

      These are all super good points - Canon pricing and inventory fluctuations have been CRAZY, and the lack of tilt-shift lenses has become a fairly unflattering black eye on the RF mount after all these years, and really underscores the absurdity of stomping out third party manufacturing activity.

    I agree wholeheartedly with the title of this video and personally returned my Canon R5 mk II as it was plagued with glitches and bugs and just a bad design in general. I can't understand how and why people accept such a rubbish camera, or perhaps the quality control is really lacking and some are getting a good version and others (like me) experience a buggy glitch camera that causes more frustration when using it, unlike every camera prior to this crap.

      I'm glad you mentioned that! I almost brought up the 5DSR, but considering its age and platform generation, I don't think it reflects Canon's present priorities, which is what I really wanted to present a conclusion about. However, definitely worth mentioning as an option people should know about.

      It’s true that a person could compile a list of everything around the house they needed to buy, type those things into the search bar, and hope there would happen to be a coincidental offering, but that was a bigger waste of time than just browsing what was available in my experience. But yes, of course, there’s a search bar.

    This helped me a lot! Thanks for the info! I just wanted to ask how you think it would perform in a higher vibration environment for video. I film the railroad so it tends to shake my camera enough to the point where I can barely salvage the shot in post. How do you think the R6 mkII would do for this purpose?

    • @MattRamseyTube
      @MattRamseyTube 11 днів тому

      Hey - I’ve never used the camera in that specific environment, but the R6II is my choice for overhead cam precisely because its sensor stabilization is excellent for counteracting the constant jitters the overhead rigs introduce. If you’re very dedicated to that type of video, a global sensor camera can do this most effectively by eliminating vibration blur and rolling shutter, by combining software stabilization and fast shutter speeds. Look into the Sony A9III or Red Komodo X cameras.

    Very interesting test results My main reason for not "upgrading" from the R5 to the R5 Mark II was I did not see that spending $4300 for the new camera provided me any tangible benefits worth that expense. For me, to upgrade to a new camera it has to provide the following over my existing system: better image quality, better dynamic range, and less noise at high ISO's. Notice I did not include video quality. One of the things I've noticed (not too much on your channel) on UA-cam camera reviews is the emphasis on video specifications. I understand that as many derive revenue for producing videos and posting them on UA-cam. I also believe that there's many (like me) that don't care about the video or ultra high speed response that just want to produce the highest quality still images they can without spending a small fortune on a medium format system. When Canon, Nikon, and most likely Sony produces that camera, I'll be there for it. Oh and congratulations on your engagement!

      @MattRamseyTube 15 днів тому

      Thanks, Jim! I'm kinda surprised there's no 16-bit full-frame camera yet. That would definitely get my attention! It's always interesting to see shooters who can ignore video; I service a very small market and video is critical for me, and increasingly so!

    • @doktorr23
      @doktorr23 23 дні тому

      Not true. R5ii has more DR than r5c. 14:10 you can clearly see how the highlights in the sky gets easily blown out even in 8k raw on R5c where as on the r5ii, it retains all the highlight details

    • @primo8825
      @primo8825 23 дні тому

      @doktorr23 look at the charts online. Lol, you can even see towards the end of the video the R5C beats both the C70 and R5II. Why do you think so may people are complaining about the R5ii? The sensor is faster but performs worse than the R5 sensor.

    • @doktorr23
      @doktorr23 23 дні тому

      Have you seen 14:24 in this video ? R5c loses detail in the shadows as well as sky is blown out where r5ii retains all of it. R5ii clearly has the most DR out of the three. And imatest, dxomark and even in Geralds video, you can see r5mkii scores quite a bit high on DR in video. You might be referring to photo DR where r5ii loses microscopic DR due to stacked sensor which is not noticeable unless you shoot in high iso’s. Cheers

    • @primo8825
      @primo8825 23 дні тому

      @doktorr23 the C70 also loses details in the shadows, not because it had less DR but because this video wasn't shot nor edited properly. Kinda misleading tbh. I have seen proper charts for all 3 cameras and have used all 3 multiple times professionally. The C70 has the best DR but suffers on low light, coming second is the R5C, then the OG R5 and lastly the R5II. Which is extremely disappointing because I was going to buy it. Not anymore. Also, these applications to both photo and video, and the difference isn't microscopic. It's so disappointing I am no longer hiring the R5II again for professional use.

    • @doktorr23
      @doktorr23 23 дні тому

      @ I had all 3 as well and sold both r5c and c70 after I got the r5ii. IMO Nothing beats the image out of the C70. I def miss it. Also, In my experience, in almost every scenario r5ii clog 2 has more latitude and DR in video vs r5c clog3. I don’t shoot raw btw. OG r5 was so bad, I can’t believe you rate it above r5ii. Every time it was nasty noisy shadows on r5. They fixed that on r5c.

    R5ii 12 bit in 8k raw video. Also uses canon raw light, R5c uses the full cinema raw codec. This is an Important distinction for video.

    • @MattRamseyTube
      @MattRamseyTube 22 дні тому

      I agree--I included the sample videos so you can decide which you like best, and because there's some disagreement regarding the RAW spec on the R5II, where the Cinema Raw Development software and some sources, including Canon documentation, spec the bit depth at 14 bits, and other sources, again including some Canon sources, spec it at 12 bits. However, there's no controversy that the R5C records in 12 bits only, and at lower bit rates, including in the HQ mode, so do be aware of that distinction, and compare this and other sample footage, because if raw video is important to you, I fear you may have it backwards. Best,

    I recently started participating in Vine and as someone with ADHD it’s great! 😆 1) I’m always thinking of random things I want to try, improve, replace 2) if I buy something, I might let it sit in the box until it’s too late to return it or to confirm it’s missing a part - in the Vine program, I am incentivized to immediately deal with the item(s) and to slow down on anything that takes a lot of time to test or use (Kintsugi kit? Although, I already planned to try Kintsugi on some broken pottery, so now I must get going when it arrives). For example - I’m swapping out the ugly hardwired boob lamps, building up a three day bug-out bag, getting picture frames for pieces that I have wanted to frame and hang, garden supplies, rechargeable lamps, upgrade or replace worn out kitchen gear… 3) I’ll be able to steadily work through things I’ve wanted to update for a long time, and the requirement to review enough items in a timely fashion to remain in the program is just the kick in the a$$ I need 4) Lastly, I’m trialing UltraViner, which makes it a whole lot easier to manage what I plan to search for and then at some point I’ll transition to picking up zero ETV items that go quickly (food, medical supplies, pet supplies…) 5) monitoring the UltraViner feed update is the ultimate dopamine boost… plus it’s amusing to see some of the really bizarro things that pop up

I've also had many, many inexpensive items and am slowly renovating my house with the items I receive and actually need. I've also had some high ticket items too that I would never be able to afford. These items have had a massive impact on my life and I certainly wouldn't have felt that full benefit in just 30 days. I also like lots of odd items, just this week I ordered some bolts that I needed!

    I am part of vine as well. However, I am not real sure how they can do the taxes the way they expect us to. For one, I am not an employee of Amazon vine nor do I get paid for check for services. I don't get paid for my time either. They do let you have the merchandise, but it's not for free. In exchange they get a review which is not only vital for the seller but for Amazon. When an item is broken or doesn't work as it should. You can't exchange it for another. They just tell you to keep it, throw it away ect... However, according to Amazon it's still counted as a taxed item. There in lies my other issue with it. I am not a tax guy or a lawyer but how would it be legal for them to still claim a broken item as a taxable item? And even if they did, it would be impossible for Amazon to know the validity of that item since they don't allow exchanges. Lastly, they really mark up these items as wee and are not the norm if you check with other like items. I believe this entire tax idea mess is exactly what it is a mess. There is no disclaimer about this when it comes to taxes. To some up my questions/issues.... 1. It is illegal to tax a person on merchandise that doesn't work or is broken. And since Amazon doesn't have a way of fixing this issue anyone can claim that most of the items sent were broken or don't work for them. And since there is no way to return that falls on Amazon. 2. Amazon is not giving these items away. They are getting a service in return without paying for it. Any person can buy from Amazon. The person would have to pay for that item and can choose rather or not to give a review for such item. It's a requirement to be a part of Amazon Vine. 3. Amazon doesn't specifically say that these items are their form of compensation. It has to be clear and stated that the items is their form of compensation. In fact, goods are not a legal or a standard way of compensation. In most jurisdictions it would have to be clear and transparent between both parties...which it is not if you read their terms and conditions. It would have to be agreed upon that the value of the such goods are equal or equivalent to an agreed upon wage. While the agreement talks about exchange of free goods, it only refers to paying the taxes on those goods. There is nothing that states in the terms and conditions that anyone agrees that is substitutes a wage and agreeing to it as fair compensation. In fact, in some states paying with goods alone violates labor laws. Lastly, what if the value of the goods reviewing is really not it's true value? Are you still required to pay taxes on Amazon's price? Most every item on Amazon Vine is over priced. So, even if a person is paying taxes on this merchandise it's not at a fair market price. Who gets the benefit of an over priced item. Amazon and the seller do of course. Why is a review more valuable than free goods? Think about it for minute. Most people purchase goods today based on the reviews. A great review can change a good seller into a great seller. In turn, making them more reliable and trustworthy which will bring them more buyers to all of their products. It can also put them in a position to charge a little more because of that. I suggest you check the laws in your state. Be sure to read over the terms and conditions and even give a copy to your lawyer. I have friends on Vine that have never claimed Vine goods to their taxes.

      @MattRamseyTube Місяць тому

      Neato. You'd have to consider that you also don't get wage income for free--just like writing a review, you get its value in exchage for a service, and you pay tax on it. However, I'm not a tax attorney, and would advise you to consult a tax professional's, Amazon's, your state's, and the federal revenue dept.s' guidance on the matter, which in my case are not ambiguous.

    I've been with Vine like forever and if you're smart enough you can rake it in. Thing is for a start you are in the USA, ok big choice of products to choose from but not so easy to get rid of them. Tax evasion no, Tax avoidance yes perfectly legal you just have to know how. Another thing...why did you spend 2h writing a review on a roll of Tape ? It's a 5-10 min job at most, say what you liked or didn't like and that's it. Viners are not Influencers no one pays me to say nice things about something that's rubbish, if it is I say so it's JMO after all. Waste packaging building up ? c'mon now are you saying you don't visit the Waste bins every day.....oh dear...

    • @MattRamseyTube
      @MattRamseyTube Місяць тому

      Cool. Sorry if I didn't state it clearly, but my contention was that finding the tape (or any other useful purchase) among the Vine offerings, unpacking it, thinking of a way to use it that would provide all the necessary information for a helpful review, using it in that way, photographing it, typing and publishing the review, and storing the item, was inclusively up to a two hour process for every item I ordered. Maybe I'm too slow or thorough, but I definitely can't do all of that in ten minutes (I couldn't even find a useful item to order in ten minutes), and that's why I concluded the program was not for me. It's for you! Thanks for the question.

    If the item disappears, or if the item gets lost, or is defective when delivered, you simply have to email Vine, and they remove the item from your orders, and the tax amount is subtracted so you do not owe it. Just be sure to NOT write a review of it. Once you write a review, Vine will not remove the item from your orders and from your tax total.

    I'm on Vine but I feel no need to get "gold" level. I'm pretty happy with silver where the requirements are much less onerous though you can "only" order 3 a day and review at least 60%. Also, 25% income tax? For a single person, that's the bracket for $100K to $200K taxable income (after deductions). For married, 25% bracket is roughly $200K to $400K taxable. My wife and I are retired and are in the top of 12% bracket taxable, which chances the equation somewhat. I give honest reviews as is encouraged by Amazon. I don't include videos but, as a lifelong amateur photographer, I do include pictures if appropriate. I agree with you in that I don't just order everything, it has to be something I want and need.

    • @j-moffatt
      @j-moffatt Місяць тому

      I'm not sure how he got 25%, but I calculate that it is just that (or more). They report your FMV as income, as a consultant (1099), which means that not only do you pay income tax on the value of the goods but you also have to pay self-employment tax (15.3% usually). Self employment tax is in addition to regular income. So if you are in a low tax bracket (12%), then you pay 12% (for regular income) plus 15.3% (for self employment tax) - or 27.3% total. I'd be very happy to be wrong on this, but it's how I read it on HRBlock's website and Intuit's. Those vine voices who have actually filed taxes on their FMV, please respond if I am incorrect.

    All data rates are lower on the R5II including 8K RAW. In 4K 120p the data rate is 350 Mbps and on the R3 it's 1080 Mbps and it's across the board. You can't shoot 4K 60p and you lose detail with line skipped video. So dig deeper and see what short cuts Canon had to make with the R5 II. Canon limited the R5 II and didn't limit the R1. So everything that's lacking on the R5 II is in the R1.

    Haha, yeah. I filled out all the tax info, and never got another word back from Amazon. Got to thinking this morning (about 6 months later) - dang - I wonder if that was all a phishing scam to get my SS#? Did some research, and ran across a link to get to "the Vine page" on Amazon. By golly, I guess I was approved. So, I scrolled through the pages and pages of generally useless junk available to the Silver level, and ordered a $10.00 dog collar light. Then? Did a little more reading, found out I had to review 80 items of the junk I saw on the list, if I went over $600 the tax man would be after me, and my mailman would probably shoot me. Decided to opt OUT of Vine, and tried to cancel the dumb dog collar light, but it was apparently too late. Oh well. They can charge me for it if they want. I opted out, and happy for it.
