The reason why people from outside the US say that American chocolate (specifically Hershey's but probably others too) tastes like vomit is because the producers put the milk they use through a process to make it last longer, and that results in the milk that contains a higher amount of butyric acid. Butyric acid is also present in vomit. Also, US the regulations for chocolate in the US state that it must contain at least 10% non-fat cocoa, whereas for other places it's 20 or 30%.
