I really love how well they made Varrick's personality, how complex it is. He's really good at pretending and avoiding vulnerability. The moments where they're in an intimate situation, like after he saves her from falling off the train, he completely avoids kissing her even though he knew it was the perfect moment. He acts shallow and it's hard to read him, but it became very clear that after she came back he didn't want to treat her badly anymore, but just didn't know how to tell her how much he cares for her and again pretended that he didn't care. But in the end, Zhu Li knew he loved her regardless of how badly he treated her. She's so patient with him, and she was so patient at waiting for him to love her back. And when she finally did lose her patience, Varrick realized that he needed to act soon in order to stop hurting her and to satisfy her so he doesn't lose her again. Their dynamic was unexpectedly powerful, even though their true relationship was only showed in the last season. It was the realest relationship.

And later they become president and first gentleman of the united republic

This is the only love story I actually liked in Korra.

Zhu Li’s character development is so fun to watch. Her transforming from a background character to and actually important element to the plot with her own personality and storyline was so rewarding

Can I just say that Zhu Li is one of the prettiest characters in LoK? We all know that Asami is a femme fatale and Korra is an androgynous buff queen. But Zhu Li has this soft and almost cottagecore vibe about her, she is absolutely stunning!
