I loved my 2980, with my homebrew dive poles, one vertical and the other horizontal, could use one at a time or together, many DX contacts with barefoot radio, 73s. 2AK2410. Mike
Got similar radios and I agree with you on the receiver performance, but a lot easier to listen to the 2980 all day long than the cobra 142 and the 2980 receives just fine
The 142 if you have it aligned in tune properly, you could get about 18 out of it. I send my stuff out to New York I live in California. enjoy the hobby. That cobra will not drift.
That Cobra and Ranger are two beautiful radios there. That ranger is on my bucket list. What antenna are you running? I used CB quite a bit in Washington state but I moved to the east coast of the US last year and the only traffic I ever hear is skip, and I run barefoot and I don't have a big tower so I can't get out. 73s, 249 North Carolina
I had a worked over 2000 GTL 25+ years ago but sold it when I moved into an apartment and didn't have a place for a good antenna. Now I've got an RCI-2985DX that I'll be setting up out in the garage once I get it tuned. I really miss that Cobra though. They're just cool. As to why the old CB base stations had PA's, it was meant for use in large warehouses. Trucks would radio in and get directed to a specific loading dock. The warehouse manager could then switch to PA and let dock workers know a truck was coming in to get loaded or unloaded. No need for a separate PA system.
The Trouble is No one talks on the CB any more. Maybe truckers that's about it. Wish it would come back. I've got a Washington base station . Fully Packed. Uppers Lowers And side band And a few more. and A Linear that puts out 1,000 watts. tube type. I've talk just about all over the world , Back in the day.
With the current solar conditions, sideband DX is pretty active right now. Mower Junkie here on YT has tons of recent videos of contacts all over the US and Europe.
I had Cobra 139 XLR from 1993 to 2005 had open Clarifier plus open up Frequencies to 26.070 to 28.500 and side car on to tune Frequency in with 2 dail knobs , Frequency switch 3 positions 26 bottom , middle was 27 also top was 28 and 5 kc drop to ! Plus bit of Frequency Counter 27.(255) had plus watts put out was 6 watts am and 25 sideband ! Clarifier was open 5 kc up and down !
remove R8 (o ohm jumper resistor) from the vs3 board that supplies audio from the voice snyth chip to the following audio amp on the vs3 board or just unplug the vs3 board
As Doc would say in Back to the future 3 - "“Unbelievable that this little piece of junk could be such a big problem" while holding it up to a magnifying glass. haha Great work Marc!
I really enjoyed this and am glad it showed up on my feed, thanks bro. I'd like to build one of these at some point but I'd like to understand more about the diode's purpose and what kind of output I can expect, like do I need some of those old crystal radio headphones? Also what the purpose of the resistor is. I see you hooked it to an amp but I'd like to try it without powering anything up.
Thanks for the video, I've thought about buliding one for a while now with an arm more like a phonograph, bend wire down and make a point and use a wood or plastic handle above the bend to set it on the coil to try and isolate 1 winding at a time. Hm, think I have everything needed in the shed. *wanders off*
Hi brings back memories of 60 years ago for me when I built many different types of crystal set, you may find you will get better results with a variable cap tuning the coil and a few different taps on the coil for the antenna connection good luck with it and happy listening
@@marcouellet1420 Oh, i guess i was overthinking it lil, i was thinking custom baffle plates or welding lol did you do anything to address the mk25s shorter driveshaft or did you feel that the lower contact area with the mk28 crank was still enough?

Those were well built radios! I’m still running a 1st generation President Dwight D.
CB is still fairly active in my area. Definitely not like the 70’s & 80’s. Lit fun to talk skip on ssb.

11 meter is on fire, so is SSB. But its like the lottery, can't win if you don't play.
I've had one for several years. It's in great condition but needs some work done to the relay. This makes me want to get it back up and going.
Had that radio when I was young. Its a great one!

I'm in the UK and remember the early 80s when radios became legal over here and were all the rage...for a couple of years.
And not to mention it has the highly coveted uniden D858!! Just Google it......a switch and some solder will get you extra channels very easily!!😢
Un gros merci pour cette belle vidéo. Je vais m'acheter le radiateur de De'Longhi car il est silencieux et semble être de bonne qualité.
It's for blind !!!

Video looked and sounded great! Great little radio! Signal coming in loud and clear. Solid find! 🎉
Please stop making noises with your saliva. It's disgusting.
Looks Nice by the way what diode did you used for this :) i mean diode number :) :)
Amazon Item Model Number CA-HB-Diode 1N34A Do7 10pcs
I have always used diodes from old busted radios. I know they work , test first, of course.

@ThatSecGuy The local dump and bulk collections are great . I even picked up a 1950 record player from the kerb.

Did it ever fly?
How did you seal the hole that the mark25 leg leaves in the exhaust where it meets the block?

Pretty cool !
Will give delonghi a miss if that happens first time I’ve heard of this
keep an eye on the windows where the leds shine through. Don't be surprised if you find water in it. I did.
Bought one of these 3 months ago, does a great job.
How do I set timer ??
Just hit the time off and they'll automatically come back on the next day at the time you pressed the button.
No idea on any more info, but I have the same radio.
Ignorant. Poor review.
