This has convinced me to finally watch this movie

It’s 2024, and I first watched this film in 1985, almost forty years ago. I remember this scene, the words, the actions like it was just yesterday. I feel John’s pain, like I did in my own fucked up childhood. That’s the impact this film had on me, it’s utterly brilliant.

There were a slew of great “teenager movies” during this period… Ferris, 16 candles, Pretty in Pink, but this was the peak of the genre, imo. Hit harder then, holds up today flawlessly. I was in early high school when it dropped. VHS machines and video rental shops had just emerged and for the first time, people could watch and rewatch a film over and over. It’s a film that stands up to repeated viewing and analysis. A must watch

I had considered this movie, reflecting back to high school, and few people knew of what a person's home life was always like. Bender reminded me of some of the people I hung out with or within that crowd. I don't know that they were quite as angry, but risk takers. I know some kids had a pretty rotten home life, whether alcoholism, sexual, verbal or physical abuse. Not everyone believes you, particularly when their families are so different, they can't fathom that those things exist in other homes. Very sad, and I hope kids open up more about child abuse today. This movie was such a classic for its time, because not many people knew what families were like behind closed doors.

The edited version was even funnier to me, “Shut up wench and go fix me a Turkey Pot Pie!”👋🏻🥧 I don’t think anyone calls anyone a wench anymore!🤣

How I now 61 truly related to this moment when I was a teenager!! No Fun No Fun at all and my Dad was perfect at hiding the Truth!!
