She needs to be singing that song in video!!
Turn around so you are facing the stern. Your back will be towards the bow. Drive it like a car. The bow will follow just like your car. Don't worry too much about going too fast. You will have better control and make sure that the rudder is centered before going into fwd. You will have oodles of "brakes" in fwd.
Looks like a great day out!! What kind of boat is that??
Heck of a First Mate you have there! Or is she the Captain??
Captain for sure
Too bad i can only thumbs up once!!
Love it!!! Thanks for posting!
Those boats and sails are massive
Mast is over 150 feet.
@ that is insane. I’ve seen videos of these bits but never with normal sized boats next to it for comparison
It’s impressive, beautifully designed.
New boat?
It’s a charter.
@@novaturient-sailingwhat kind of boat is it..
It’s Beneteau 40.1 dual rudder.
@Valkyrie11609 it’s Beneteau 40.1 dual rudder
Kudos!!!
I love the pace of your videos. Very enjoyable
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoy them.
Many Thanks! Very Helpful! New Subscriber Here! 😃👋
Thank you! Glad it helps.
I have a Farr 1104. Winner of the Sydney Hobart in 1976. A really great boat.
Amazing boat. Wow.
That’s 2 years in a row they had problems last year came back to win right at the end this year Comanche blew out sails in the bad weather would have loved to see if Law Connect could have battled back again this year
That’s what I had wished for too. Hopefully next year, these two can compete tack to tack.
Were you guys there?!
Yeah. We were following Comanche and LawConnect from start to passing Bondi for one and half hours.
@novaturient-sailing oh dang!!! There's my jealous face again!!! You guys keep up the great work and keep us posted. You guys are living the dream.
@@Valkyrie11609 thank you and happy new year!
L.C. needs to figure out their furling issues. Should not happen to a program of this caliber.
Agreed. It happened two years in a row. They didn’t give up though and won the line honors both years.
hahaha
Have been following your channel for some time. So glad you made it to S2H. I was out there too. Beautiful day on water.
Thanks for following. Sydney harbor is a beauty. Perfect weather to start the race.
Normal weather for the east coast
Better wind and weather than last year
So sad they retired due to a main sail damage
Indeed. I really wished they could earn the line honors back. Anyway, 2017 record still holds, there will always be next year. LawConnect is well deserved. Hopefully next year, they two could compete tack to tack.
It’s crazy 2 people died!
It was such a tragedy. Hats off to all the brave sailors.
@@novaturient-sailing Truly.
Saw the winning boat today at the docks! Took a photo of it
Wow, amazing. LawConnect arrived after midnight.
@@novaturient-sailing yes very crazy how some are still moving and maybe not even halfway!
Agreed. LawConnect had fantastic two years in a row considering it had furling issue out of gate. I had to say besides admiring the beauty and speed of super maxi, my greatest respect goes to smaller boats, some 40 footers challenging one of the hardest courses in the world.
@@novaturient-sailing that’s fair enough.
You are right
Mate LawConnect Was first and then had furling issues and thats when Commanche took the lead
Sure. I watched action too closely not to pay attention where the line is. LawConnect was the first out of the harbor. Thanks.
@@novaturient-sailing Nah all good Sucks that unfolding battle never got a chance to happen due to a whole series of bad luck for both LawConnect and Commanche
Hopefully next year, they will compete tack to tack.
2nd out of the harbour.
You are correct. I didn’t pay attention where the line is.
In Australia if you are in control of a vessel, car .boat , yacht and somone unfortunately dies, you get charged with manslaughter, let's see if same rules apply to the elites
Poetry in motion 😊
Exactly.
thank you for sharing .this is very helpful .
Thanks!
Any docking at the marinas or did you guys just dinghy to town?
We didn’t dock in Marinas outside Procida. We anchored and took dinghy to shore.
maybe you can try and bring the mooring ball up at the bow with a boat hook when you are directly above it. I also had trouble but will try this guide next time : ua-cam.com/video/_wFNhPideWU/v-deo.html see how he does it at 6:35 then rigs the bridal from the cross beam
They have some great videos. Picking up mooring balls from bow with boat hook was usually what we did. This was the only time we had trouble. I suspect the line (below water line) between the anchor rock and mooring ball is too short. I wasn’t able to lift the mooring ball to deck. In bora bora, mooring ball has no pendent. Check out the next video in bora bora, it’s how we usually pick up mooring ball or our virgin island video specifically talking about how to pick up mooring balls if you are interested. Thanks!
what's the purpose of the additional line to the mooring ball at 1:50? Do you have any tips to stop the mooring balls hitting the hull? sometimes I found that on 40ft cat
Thanks for watching. At 1:50 I only see the bridal - two lines through the ring of mooring ball, then back to cleats on the crossbeam. Maybe it’s the life line above the crossbeam. With two line bridal while stern is free, mooring ball usually stays between two hulls in the middle. I haven’t been in the situation it hits the hull.
I also chartered one of these Leopard 40s last month. I might like to charter some more 40 ft cats in the med with an interest to buy
The best heaving to technique demo I have even seen!
Thanks for watching!
I like your video. I have gone twice to that island in winter. It was cold.
It really is. The water was still cold when we went back in June. Thanks for watching.
I love this. There are no other boats around and weather conditions are perfect. Not reality.
Cool man I'll subscribe keep it up and stay on board ! You should take a look at the Single Handed Sailing Society. They race inside the Bay and outside, single and double handed. My wife and I were doing that in the early 90's and like you I was mostly single handed. Good times.
Thanks! Ill try in open calm water. For now i just walk it backwards holding stern line then push the bow out and jump on. If im waiting for people and have time i just turn it around by hand and tie it back up. Its a 29 its not hard and takes less than 5 minutes
It sounds good.
Love the sailing and airshow combo! What a way to see it without the crowds...
Thanks. Best seats for sure.
Great video! Thank you!
Thanks for watching.
I always dock stern-to. Doesn't matter if you know the marina or not. If you don't know it, and if you can't compensate, just escape forward, which is easy, and repeat. Don't ever try to reverse close to the slip, it won't work. Unless you're a pro, trying to reverse in a tight space is a recipe for disaster. Just thrust forward, get out, and try again. KISS!
My wife and I took our first trip to Avalon for our anniversary last month, we did the helicopter flight to get there. We loved it! However, all I keep thinking about now is going back via sailboat! So so rad to get to sail there! 🤙⛵
Wow, helicopter to Catalina. Amazing.
your jib is being destroyed, the jib car needs to go way more forward
what do u mean more forward? tighter or more loose?
@@bobedwards8896 the jib sheet goes to the deck. the block position on the deck can be adjusted, so you pull it forward, so the jib sheet comes down more vertically, and pulls the leech tight
Everything you say is right, but you miss one root cause of weather helm. When the boat heels the CoE also moves significantly to leeward. Having all the drive out to one side makes the boat turn toward the other side, obviously.
Thanks..
How much does it cost per night on the boat? Thanks for sharing this video.
It depends on which month. Price varies a lot. Go to sunsail web site. It takes a minute to find out after you put in dates and select size of boat. By the way, I just uploaded a video about how to charter sunsail in Italy which applies to Tahiti/Bora bora too. Fair wind.
Thanks for showing how to book on Sunsail. It looked easy to make the reservation, and sounds like you have had good experience with them. The rates seem quite affordable.
Thank you. Glad it is helpful!
Thank you Nathan. Your videos are super helpful. As a newly certified skipper I learned a lot. If you sail in bay area or anywhere in California and need a crew, I am happy to volunteer!
Thanks, happy sailing!
Thanks for including the failed attempt. Sometimes more useful to see why it didn't work then it working because when it doesn't work for me I can go "ah that is why instead of dammit it looks so easy on youtube". I use to try the go past and standing turn but at least at my marina I have found the just drive the fairway in reverse the easiest.
Thanks, happy sailing!
Good job, skip. Lessons learned!
Thank you, happy sailing!
Furling sails are never proper shape .....partly furled - are terrible , especially jib - it is disastrous - no surprise - bad pointing !
Hi, I am watching your videos to learn about the shipping lanes, bridge procedures, exiting with the north and south bar. Any episodes and info on those?
How lucky you are, to have a cooperative and helpful partner!
Whats she gonna do?
Good video! Did well. Always wear PFD’s please. Recommend closing the companionway hatch..
Thanks, will do!
