DIY Coffee Table
I copied the design of a coffee table my wife found online and made it for 1/3 of the price. Made from rough sawn 8/4 (2") ash with mortise and tenon joinery. Top attached with figure 8 fasteners. Finished with tung oil, then 3 coats of satin polyurethane for durability. Note: I am not a professional woodworker, just a hobbyist!
DIY Bat House and Bat Exclusion
I discovered that I had bats living in the exterior wall of my house, so I kicked them out and made them their own house to live in! Bats are great to have around your yard, especially because they keep the mosquito population under control. It’s illegal to kill bats, so you have to humanely get them to leave their roost. I bought a couple of Bat Valves online, a genius invention that allows th...
How to Build a Lemonade / Hot Cocoa Stand - DIY

I highly enjoyed this project. It is not fine furniture and the joints did not have to look perfect, which allowed me to relax a little and have fun with it. The material are not expensive, but the finished product wound up looking great and it is very sturdy but not too heavy. There is space in the back to hold an ice chest, with a couple of shelves beside it.

Dovetail Post Office Keepsake Box

I’ve enjoyed making these keepsake boxes for my kids. The doors are authentic post office box doors from the 1960s. I made the first box in 2015 and we can’t seem to stop having more children. The style and precision of the boxes is representative of my woodworking ability from 2015 until now.
DIY Built-In Bunk Beds - Twin over Full
Twin size bed on top, full size bed on bottom. Stairs and railing made of northern soft maple. Bed frames made of 2x4s, casing is 1/2” cabinet grade plywood, front faces are 3/4” plywood. I am a hobbyist, not a pro.
Did you have a survey done before you did this? Just asking as depending on when this was filmed compared to posted or if you ID’d the species first as roosts are normally protected. Although I’m assuming this is in America as this is completely illegal in the UK.
Do you have plans or a cut list you sell for this project?
Do you drawings for it?
Thanks for creating such an entertaining video. It made my day!
Did you cut out the carpet where the structure meets the floor or just push down hard on the carpet?
@@PlayBikeFrisbee I did not cut out the carpet.
John, you raised the bar for DIY videos across the board! This presentation has it all… how to, the background story, a fantastic bat house design, tool usage, a father/son project, application of personal safety devices (for you and your son), implementation strategy with Bat Valves, fantastic video coverage of the entire project, and The Batman sound track to boot!! One of the best DIY videos I’ve ever seen! 👍🏻🦇👏🏻
It should win an award.
Are those drywall screws? Those are going to rust super fast outside
music is a bit too loud
@@justayoutuber1906 There is no dialogue. Turn down your volume.
and you didn't have to kill the bats provided them a new home too Bravo to you
Great execution of an elegant design. Bravo!
Shore do wish you'd deign to draw up plans.
Wow beautiful, Is it possible to get the Plans
Thanks! Unfortunately I don't have any plans for it, didn't use any. I think I wrote down a few dimensions in earlier comments, though.
Wow! what a stylish and space-saving sleeping solution!
Very good video of a bat exclusion and solution. That is a very nice bat house. Do you have this colony in your bat house now??
No, unfortunately when I kicked them out of my house they did not choose to move into my new bat house.
@@wizard_of_eyes I'm sorry to hear that. Keep up the hope. A water source such as a small to medium sized pond might help. Also look into bat gardens. They are a bunch of flowers herbs and plants that put off scents at night that attracts insects and in turn brings in the bats. Just a couple ideas for you. I'm going to try the same ideas myself.
@@wizard_of_eyesdon’t give up hope… the bats may move in next spring, or the one after that 🤞🏻
Hi! This is amazing. Would you share measurements?
This is the best video on the entire internet .
😂 That seems unlikely but I appreciate the sentiment.
Also, my condolences. Your mosquito population is going to skyrocket when you kick out the bats. Mine definitely did. I miss them for that reason only!
@PrettyGoodLookin, you’re onto something… definitely one of the best DIY videos I’ve ever seen. 👍🏻
@@wizard_of_eyes Ohhhh... Did not know that would happen. Thank you for sharing this info about the mosquitos.
What is the white screen you used and is it metal or plastic ? What type nails or screws did you use with the screens ? ( I have the same bat situation )
I looked around Lowe’s for something suitable. It’s a plastic corner cover for doing drywall. Cheap, just a couple bucks. They were just some short screws I had on hand, nothing special.
@@wizard_of_eyes thank you !!
Any chance you have blue prints, or did you just create it as you went?
I mostly just created it as I went along. I made a couple sketches on paper and made a few calculations for dimensions, but there were no real plans.
Well done! Thanks for sharing and the ideas. Planning my boys twin over full right now. I can’t wait to build it!
That's pretty awesome. I like this design for my space, though instead of the full sized bed I'm probably going to either leave it open for play or a desk. This got the gears turning!
Still far cheaper than buying a prefabricated bunkbed. I can tear it out at any time. My kids are still young enough that we will use it for at least 5 more years. Also, what else was I supposed to do during COVID lockdown?? ؟
Great all around video on bat exclusion
Thanks! UA-cam saved me tons of money by showing me how to get the bats out without hiring an expert.
excellent video but you should be careful with the kids when that ceiling fan is turned on.... i would remove that fan or relocate it.
They will survive it.
The joy of children’s laughter…
It's wonderful for men to have a know-how in something practical around the house! Keep it up buddy!!!
how much was it total without the extra stuff just the wood a build?
About $500.
Hi, I’ve learned a lot from your video, thanks for sharing. May I ask if you are using untreated timber or treated? Would you have concern if using treated interior framing timber? Thanks.
I used all untreated lumber, but I don’t think it would cause a problem for the internal framing to be treated.
@@wizard_of_eyes thank you for the comment. All the best.
beautiful craftmanship!
Great build! Looking to build something similar, but I know it won't be as awesome! Did you ever end up adding a hand rail for the stairs? Seems it would be a safety/code issue. Again, great work!
Thanks! No handrail, I didn’t think it was necessary.
My fiancé and I want to do something like this for our future kids (we want 3) and this was so entertaining and educative! Great job and your kids are so cute!
That's great....good job guys
kids are kids. Giggling and jumping .

home sweet home
That was a great "how-to" for the box and the exclusion. Good stuff.
Thanks!
This is the greatest thing I have ever seen
You are too kind.
Awesome! I'd pay for those plans sir :)
Thanks, but I don’t have any!
Great job! Which material did you put on top of the wood framing? MDF? Plywood? I am currently building a bunk bed and was going to drywall over but what you covered with look much better and easier.
I used plywood but MDF would have worked great as well. The plywood gives the structure stability (and durability). I worry that drywall wouldn’t be strong enough.
Any plans? My 5 year old said he wants these beds
Sorry, I don’t have any plans. I just made the dimensions to fit the space. (Same amount of head space above each bed. Stairs are 19” wide. I left a couple inches of room around the edges of the mattresses to make it easier to change the sheets.)
very nice...
Amazing 🤩 and a talented parents ❤️❤️❤️

It looks cozy and amazing!! One quick question. What are the dimensions of the room?
That looks amazing! You are a really talented dad. You did every single detail. Your kids must be so lucky and happy to have you.
Really cool and nice, greetings from germany
Do you have the plans?
No, I just sketched a few dimensions on some paper, but didn’t really follow any plans.
change the lights to kid lights
Very nice!
