Freak the Mighty, Chapter 8 - Dinosaur Brain
An unexpected friendship leads to a life-changing story in this timeless classic by Newbery Honor author Rodman Philbrick.
"I never had a brain until Freak came along . . . "
That's what Max thought. All his life he'd been called stupid. Dumb. Slow. It didn't help that his body seemed to be growing faster than his mind. It didn't help that people were afraid of him. So Max learned how to be alone. At least until Freak came along.
Freak was weird, too. He had a little body--and a really big brain. Together Max and Freak were unstoppable.
Together, they were Freak the Mighty.
Over two million copies sold and eight foreign editions!
Turned into a feature film starring Kieran Culkin and Sharon Stone
Themes of friendship and bullying make this story timeless
This classic by award-winning author Rodman Philbrick will continue to be a middle grade reading staple, now and in the years to come.

A Short Lesson from Theatre Class (That Can Be Used in All Your Others)

Why do students allow work to pile up - many times, turning it in late or incomplete - when it would be so much easier to just do it little by little day by day, so by the time it’s due, it would be done? The answer may remain a mystery, but let’s discuss…

@@HannahLuvsJsus thanks! 😊
Love your read through!! Thank you so much!
@@josestirtabudi6247 Glad you enjoyed it.
LOVED this, so helpful!! I am reading this book to use on a school project, and started reading along with you on chapter 7. Your storytelling voice is great 😊
Glad it was helpful!
Ty for getting me an A
I have no doubt you got yourself an A. 😊👍
@@ClassroomConfidential OMG!!!! Ty for responding!!!! I have another book club coming up. Could you read the book I chose?
I was not assigned to read this book for class, i just LOVE the movie (i have seen it HUNDREDS of times and can say every word its my favorite movie) and have the book for a while but never got into reading it. Because of my confusion of S. Morgenstern and William Goldman. But i just want to say that the way you read it is Wonderful. You make me want to read more.
There is no S Morgenstern. It’s a creation of Goldman. It’s part of what makes the book so great, how he’s completely fabricated a fictitious author who never existed and presents the book like it’s something his grandfather read to him as a child. Adds to the whole richness of the story. And most of my students loved the book so much that by the time I showed them the movie they were angry that they left so much out. Especially the Zoo of Death. Thanks for listening and for your kind words.
You were a wonderful narrator. Thank you for doing this.
@@marie5109 my pleasure! 😊
Are you reading an abridged version?
No. I edited it for my class, so it only covers what we read in class.
So, I guess, yeah, I abridged it.
@@ClassroomConfidential Thank you for the reply! I thoroughly enjoyed listening to your reading.
thank you. this is good
Delightful! Such talent and generosity. Thank you for reading me a story in the best way❤
Sure thing. Happy you’re enjoying it.
Fantastic read. Thank you❤
You’re very welcome! 😊
I love this! We should never stop reading aloud to kids!
Agreed! 👍
One possibility is that she had said time and time again that Westly is all she needs in the world and having the secret garden of her heart shredded to pieces once again could be enough to brake her and accept death. She was close to accepting it the night Humperdink came to her, rather than marry him. However, I would love to think Princess Buttercup would fight in the wake of Westleys death and use the love she had to rage against the darkness of the night. Not only her love for Westley but her love for the people she is queen of. She has found solice in them and could again, being a strong badass lone queen, deafeting Humperdink and ruling until she allies with Gilder and creates another air for the good of the country. After the count is taken care of, of course.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
This version should be published! You are very talented!
Awwww…thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
As a 25 year old listening at work, I am relieved to hear I don’t have a vocab quiz tomorrow XD This is a perfect rendition of one of my favorite books!
Thank you!
F - requires a rope.
Well, um…yeah.
@@ClassroomConfidential But if Tristan doesn't have a rope , then how can Tristan do the trick?
Perfectly articulated! Subscribed.
Thanks! Glad you got value from it.
Is there a difference between repeating directions and following directions. Can you clarify?
I’m not sure I understand the question.
@@ClassroomConfidential So as a teacher would you tell your students to repeat the instructions or do you tell them to follow the instructions?
@@nestea1278 both.
@@ClassroomConfidential but technically isn't there a difference? If you told someone to repeat these instructions would they be wrong if they literally recited the instructions back to you? Isn't asking someone to repeat the instructions faulty when you are expecting them to perform the instructions given? Please forgive me,I'm trying my best to explain with words what I'm trying to get an understanding for.
Track 22 is missing. What happened to pt 13 of Chapter 5?
I need to re-record. Haven’t gotten to it, yet. Thanks for watching! 😃
@ClassroomConfidential it's such a juicy part though and I had to go listen to someone much less skilled than you to read it because the actual book isn't available at the library. Please re-record! You are very talented!
You have wonderful ideas! Both my daughters are teachers and love using your ideas in their classrooms.
Glad to hear it! 😃👍
Great job on the video. This has been one of my favorites.
Thanks Professor!
Have you ever thought about dividing those large assignments into sections? When I was a kid, a big project could be overwhelming. My 5th grade teacher assigned us a spelling chapter, 10 vocabulary words, and a weekly reader for weekly homework. None of it was hard, but it was boring and tiresome. I would often procrastinate until the night before, and 3-4 times I didn't do it at all because I was overwhelmed by anxiety.
Oh, all the time. Even big assignments cut into small ones are a struggle, even when I give time in class to work. A lot changes when they get to 6th grade and one teacher isn’t governing them the entire day.
OHHH I WAS IN THAT PLAY
Yeah, but I wasn’t talking about you…this time.
@@ClassroomConfidential oh wow 😭
Hi Mr. Y
Hi, Delilah!
This video is great Edit: you also look a lot like my dad
Thanks! He must be a very attractive man! 😃

I really liked the transition to the men in black.
I’m doing this for school but why is it so Interesting
Because it is. 😃
Never stop reading
I appreciate your balance of fair and firm. Thank you!
I appreciate that!
Omg Mr. Y, wasup! It's me Morgan! Nice Channel you gkt here!
Thanks Morgan!
I can agree with this when you're talking about young kids in their late teens and early twenties, but I think slack should be given to older college students who have families and full-time jobs.
This is aimed at primarily middle and high school students. Thanks for watching!
hahaha love it because I do actually have a vocab quiz tomorrow 😭
Tysm!! I had to do a project on this book and forgot to rest it YOU ARE A LIFESAVER 🫶
Glad to hear it. I have to redo a few chapters, but it’s mostly complete.
Great narration
Thank you! 😊
Thank you!! I love the voices! 🫶
Thank you for watching!
My teacher said this guy is annoying even though he isn't
He, you’re teacher is probably jealous because their read-aloud skills are crap. 😜
@@ClassroomConfidential That could honestly be the reason
@@ClassroomConfidentialyeah I have the same class she doesn’t like your read around idk why
I need to get a copy of this book so I can find out what happened between part 26 & part 28.
You should get a copy of the book anyway, but I’m planning to re-record, as I’m not sure what happened to the video. The one pictured is a great edition of the book, especially for the money.
@@ClassroomConfidential I read it once almost thirty years ago and thought it was much better than the movie. I don't know what happened to that copy of it, but you are correct, I should purchase another copy anyway. It's a unique one-of-a-kind masterpiece.
Teaching an improv class for kids and this great for Halloween! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching.
Thank you for doing the voices. I use your recordings in my classroom while my sophomores read the book.. Is there a possibility you could record Chapter 5 with the same format as your other chapters? (minus the classroom interruptions?) Thank you for your work. Great job!
Sure I could do that. I’m glad it’s helpful. There are actually a few chapters like that and for some reason I’m missing one part, as well. Any suggestions for further recordings? Considering changing the channel to just read-alouds.
How about reading "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty"? We read that short story as a class. Btw: I actually project you on my screen while you read. You're on center stage. :) @@ClassroomConfidential
Ha! That’s a good one! Up next, I have to finish recording The Outsiders and then Freak the Mighty. Walter Mitty should be easy.
It should. Ever read "West with Giraffes"? That's a great one. It's fairly new and there's a professional recording on Audible, but I'm not a fan of the man's voice. You've got your plate full, but if you ever find time, another option would be great instead of the dry sounding man on Audible for "Giraffes". Thanks again.@@ClassroomConfidential
