The Ogilite RV is finished-the interior shown-Scratch built trailer episode # 36 by Steve Ogilvie

This video shows the interior features of our new trailer. All campgrounds in Ontario are now closed because of the Covid situation. We have camped in the backyard and everything works great. I have also put about 500 KM on the trailer and everything is good. Suspension and frame are perfect and it tracks straight and stable. Wheel bearings run cool and no signs of abnormal tire wear. Haven't e...

Making the door weather tight. The door we got cheap from a surplus sales RV place and I should have looked it over better. Leaked like a sieve. While I was at it I turned the friction hinges in to normal hinges. So much better, no more slamming the door to close it and the frame does not buckle any more whenever you open or close the door. This video ends suddenly because my phone decided to s...

Get rid of your RV door friction hinge
Переглядів 10 тис.3 роки тому

The Filon we bought was on a roll and they were not sure how much was on the roll. Because it wasnt the colour I wanted Tisdelles gave me a deal on it.Turns out there was 50 feet on the roll. That gave me 15 feet more than I needed. So we decide to use it for the walls of the bathroom.

    FYI y'all - this works. Either use a good punch or a small drill bit to get your drilling started perfectly in the center of those drill spots. I would suggest opening the door to around 100 degrees or so (0 degrees = closed) before doing the drilling. The holes behind those plugs aren't exposed if you don't open the door to just the right angle. It's hard to explain, but it will certainly help if you don't do your drilling with the door all the way wide open.

    Mr. Ogilvie, I'm just writing cuz I don't know what platform you are using, or if this is even the right place to write this, but here we are in the middle of October of 2021, and I know you mentioned numerous times that you are "retired" from building tracks, but I was just wondering if you find more people having race tracks being built lately. I realize that slot cars are a very specialized activity, but a lot of companies seem to be putting a lot of slot cars on the market lately. I was just sort of wondering if you noticed that if there was any impact for track building. Thank you.

Last time was at Jonn Cree’s place (he introduced me to you at the Holiday Inn on Sherbrooke street where a race week-end was organized. Ron Hershmann was also there with his protégé. • @steveogilvie1773
      @steveogilvie1773 3 роки тому

      All my tracks are sectional with double tongue and groove joints on each section. The corners have molded inner and outer 1/2" thick sidewalls so the tracks maintain their shape during shipping. The straights have 1/2" inner and outer sidewalls for the same reason. Individual corner sections are stood vertically on their sides with the joints facing up and the straights are placed on their sidewalls running longitudinally in the truck or container. Each piece is screwed through the sidewall below the track surface in to the wooden floor of the vehicle. All sections face the same way to avoid painted sections being damaged. Then strips of scrap MDF are used to strap the top of the sidewalls together and extra straps are used to brace against the side of the truck or container. My motto is if it can move it will move, so make sure nothing can move. We have shipped hundreds of tracks in everything from seacans to tractor trailers and 99% of them arrived undamaged. We always painted the outside of the sidewalls after delivery so the screw holes can be filled and sanded. The tracks go back together looking the same as they left the shop, no warping or twisting to worry about.Adjusting the legs to suit the floor irregularities is the final step.I live in Ontario in Bruce county.

    Steve, who were some of your track building competitors. I know of only one, Hasse Nielson. Who were some others. Also are you responsible for the "King" track design or who was ? Who was responsible for other common designs like an "Engleman". There was a track in Santee Calif. It was a "hillclimb" variation. Did you build it.? Just curious thanks from an old time racer back in the mid 90's / early 2000's in Arizona and California.

    • @steveogilvie1773
      @steveogilvie1773 3 роки тому

      I started selling mostly home tracks in late 1986. Built my first commercial track in 1988, maybe 87. Hasse was my earliest competitor but at the time there was also Ed Tunkle and a few others. Later on Chris Dadds, everyone else did not sell enough tracks to really mention. Once I developed a track design that allowed me to build and paint my tracks in my shop and deliver them finished I pretty much had the market to myself, everyone else got my leftovers. Donn Bryans started working with me in the early 90's out of his shop in Florida. He still builds tracks. The King track design was by American Model Car Raceways. The Engleman was originally built by Stan Engleman. I built a lot of hillclimbs but I do not know where they all went too. I did not have time to catalogue anything and all my invoices got accidentally destroyed when I tore down my old house. But I do know that I was personally involved in the building of over 500 tracks because every one of them got a number.
