Game reviews? Restrospectives? Analysis? Essays? Plot summaries? I don't know, I just like talking about games,. Old games, new games, games where you hit rocks. Maybe you like hearing about games? We should hang out sometime, I guess I'll do most of the talking.

Asura's Wrath Retrospective
A long time ago in a galaxy far away that might actually be our own, weeb Kratos fights Hindu Jesus because he doesn't want to get a job.
Asura's Wrath is a 2012 Anime inspired David Cage-em up and while it's hard to recommend it, it's still pretty cool, and I'll tell you about it if you've got about an hour. Sorry about all the mouth noises, I got a new mic, and I decided to record this before figuring out how to position it, because I'm a moron.

Castlevania: Lament of Innocence Review

In this video we learn how the Belmont clan dedicated itself to hunting the creatures of the night, and why you need to pick a good name for the villain of your story. It's a dramatic tale of copying someone else's homework, and making women with incredibly funny looking head shapes. The game takes a lot from Devil May Cry, and doesn't really do it as well, but it's still pretty good. Thanks fo...

Blood Omen: Legacy Of Kain - Ps1 review
That was a fair enough review,I played this in '02,I'm an old head;) I wish they still made games like this for current day. A ps5 version of this type game done right would be awesome! An easy 10/10 win for gamers^
@@deewills353 thanks, I appreciate you checking it out. I would give up most of the modern AAA releases for more like this, but with modern quality of life.
The camera work in this game is so good.
It really is. For every bit that games like uncharted wanted to be like movies, this game succeeded in being like an anime, it's a shame it's kind of forgotten.
I missed out on this game. However Raziel appearance always reminded me of Marvel's Nightcrawler.
It would be hard to convince me he wasn't a big influence on the design, shame we've never gotten a good Nightcrawler game. Also, If you want to try the game sometime, they've got a remaster coming out Dec 10th 2024.
Man, I remember loving this right up until the ending - where it wanted me to pay for DLC. That was the only shame, really.
That would have been a huge punch in the gut. It's bad enough when a game cuts off with a "to be continued" but to cut off with a "8 more dollars to continue the ride" would leave me pretty sour. Also, sorry if I pronounced your name wrong.
I really hope some day we get a sequel to this game that has better focus and direction and some ladies on the dev team to reign in the "check out my sweet story board of action figures crashing into each other and screaming while human tragedy is both presented and largely ignored" in favor of check that out out but also look at the horrible cost of our hubris and let's make this make a bit more sense than absolutely none at all.
That would be awesome, a mountain dew fueled teenage Kal probably would have loved this game, but a mountain dew fueled middle aged Kal just wants a little more substance. I don't know anything about the dev team demographics that worked on this one, but I'm all for more people and more types of people making more games for more types of people.
Asura’s Wrath felt like if you stretched one of those really cool one off anime movies like RedLine or Tailenders and made it a 10 hour game. You can tell why it’s got its fan base because you feel the passion that was put into it, but it would be disingenuous to not mention its faults. Really nostalgic for this game, but I probably wouldn’t play it more than once. Thanks for reminding me of this gem.
Yeah it was really cool, just like those movies, but you gotta have that cooldown period or it just becomes noise you know? It would be awesome to see what the team could have made if they got to keep refining the formula.
Asura is angy Give him some chocolate milk to calm down
Anger management therapists hate this one weird trick!
As usual, I feel like I sound negative in the video, but I did really enjoy Asura's Wrath, I just wish it had a little more gameplay variety and fleshed out his character a little more. Anyway, thanks for checking the video out.
Love this game so much - so excited to hear your thoughts!
Well I hope I don't sound too critical. It was very cool, even if I do wish some things were different.
@@KalTheSkeletonAll your criticisms were valid. It’s a very flawed game but I love Cyberconnect2 in general and their experimental games like .hack, the Little Tail Bronx series, and this game. It’s so sad that they’re just a Bandai namco anime game mill because when they make original stuff it is always interesting and unique.
@@ObliviousBen1 it is sad even though as far as the Bandai anime games go they still make some decent stuff, it feels very cookie cutter. I actually really loved those .Hack ps2 RPGs when I was a kid, but I tried playing Infection a few months ago and it is rough.

@@RPC87at least the ps3 emulation had come a long way, though I've not looked in to the roms much because they're so big. I love those games, even if they are all brown and use too much bloom.
@@KalTheSkeleton ya for emulation you need some time to sit down and tinker with it to get the results you want. The bloom problem is real hahaha. I just loved how the developers did so much with so little. Now we have so little in terms of originality with so much power.
yeah wrath's cool and all but when are we getting Asura's Lust?

Nice, I'm worried about the day my ps3 finally gives out. Thanks for checking out the video.
Not gona lie the villan sound like markplayer.
I've got a soft spot for this game. Here's a fun little thing I noticed on an oddly recent replaying of this. Rinaldo's shirt has those thick tassly bits for sleeves on his shirt. That's potentially indicative of him being a Judean. Between that and the alchemical expertise, he may have very well been up to some of the ol' Solomon shenanigans, sans pagan snuggle parties.
You know I did clock that he had a very different design than the rest of the game, but I didn't think to look in to it. I bet you're right about it being a historical reference. For some reason I assumed he learned alchemy from Mathias based on how much he seemed to look up to him. I wondered if Mathias manipulated Walter to turn Rinaldo's daughter and then allow him to live there, but that would require him to have started 5 years prior, and he apparently only fell to evil in the last year after his wife died. This game does suffer from it's lack of pagan snuggle parties, but I try to look past the mistakes of the past. They didn't know better.
This is a great video for many reasons that i'll highlight for a sec to help you with your format - it's very fun - it explains the story - it's a semi walkthrough - it's peppered with trivia - and you also give out tips & cheats (this i like the most) Reading the other comments, I absolutely suggest you to play the lords of shadow saga (or at least 1 since no sequels rule). Right now it's pretty hated/forgotten because 2 poisoned the well, but Los1 is the best 3d-vania gameplaywise (even if many reduce it to "just" god of war); great ost and story ED: another tip, put your suggested links like mozillo in the video description
Thanks, I've tried looking at how a lot of other creators format their videos to improve my own, and change it up a little each time. I'm definitely looking forward to the shadows saga, though for clarity I have no problem with sequels, I just struggle to stick to any one series. I didn't know 2 had a bad reputation, though that does make sense considering I never hear it talked about. Also, fffffffuuuuuuuucccckkk I can't believe I forgot to put them in the description, thanks for pointing that out.
I became your 666th sub. Les goooooo
The pact is sealed, your soul is forfeit, your magical powers are in the mail. Glad to have you.
@@KalTheSkeleton Glad to be here. I'm a huge Castlevania nut.
It's cool to see where Lords of Shadow got a good chunk of inspiration, Gandolfi is referenced as the one who made the Combat cross and the upgrades for it you find and it even brought back the Forgotten One in the DLC as an ultra hard boss genuinely one of if not the hardest bosses I've ever fought. Hopefully given Konami's rerelease bender the 3D Castlevanias are next up. Oh and have a spooktastic Samhain.
You know, I've bought lords of Shadow 1, 1.5, and 2 on at least 4 platforms but I've still never made it more than two hours in. It seems so very my shit, I just have a terrible attention span. I did see that Rinaldo was mentioned in there (No clue if it's the same one), but apparently they never discovered what happened to him. I love when series have recurring lore like that. If Legacy of Kain and The Thing are any indication, they're probably already working on the remaster for these, it's a gift I have, apparently, and a spectacularly scary Samhain to you, as well.
666 subs goal get! happy happy halloween!
Yeah it felt like fate to be uploading some Castlevania right as I hit that milestone. Thanks, and a Happy Halloween to you too!
Once I get a handful of those freedom dollars, I may give it a go. I also like the style of this, seems like a fun horror experience to me.
I like horror that makes you think, rather than just startling you. The kind that creeps up on you right before bed.
Man. I wish you would have lied about using cheats to push through the game. I really bump up against it, especially since this is a soft review. I do totally understand what you're saying though about bouncing off of it because of jank combat. I think I've tried play it three times and have never made it past a few hours. GREAT video other than that little feedback.
Ah but I'd never lie to you, at least not intentionally. I'm not sure what you mean by a soft review, but I would always want you to have the context of my thoughts on a game especially for something like combat, and I figure if I lied about it, you'd just see me get hit and the health bar not go down, and then it kind of invalidates the whole review, ya know? I did the same as you, bouncing off it several time, but I really wanted to play the later Kain games and get the story first hand. This is one game that could really use a remake. Anyway, thanks for check it out. It being my first video, it's kind of hard to go back to it for me.
@@KalTheSkeleton Soft Review as in you spent a lot of time talking about the lore and background. Not just the game and mechanics. Looking back that sounds shitty, but I didn't mean it like that. I prefer lore heavy content. I prefer videos exactly like you made. And just to be super clear, I loved the video and have been watching most of your other videos. It's a great video. I just hate that you didn't 'play it' if that makes sense. I'm subscribed and can't wait to see more of your content, and I apologize if my previous comment sounded shitty. I'm excited to see your next piece of content. Some of my aversion might be that I personally refuse to use cheats, codes, mods, or exploits in games. I could 100% see using shit like that for gathering footage, but I think it puts too much of a twist on a game to only 'play it' rather than play it. I hope this makes sense and maybe takes the edge off of my previous comment. I'm for sure a new fan.
Ah no worries, I understand what you mean, and I didn't take it as shitty, I just didn't want to assume. Typically if a game is so janky or unpleasant that I would have to actually use cheats (outside of savestates) to get through it, I would just give it a pass entirely. I really wanted to start from the beginning with Kain though, and I picked it as my first game to make a video on before I actually played it for some strange reason, so I felt like if I didn't follow through on that, I'd be somehow failing. Of course I also played it and wrote a script without recording the damn thing, so that's why most of my footage is tagged with credit to the Longplay Archive so it was kind of a failure anyway lol. I'm rambling but the core is, I agree that it's difficult or impossible to really experience a game without engaging with it in the way the designers intended it. I make excuses for myself because I have limited playtime and I try to put out a video every two weeks, but I also want to be upfront about it because it's important to me to be authentic to whoever watches them. I need more hours in the day!
Mmmmm. It’s interesting. I’ve been playing Maximo since I was a kid. So, when people compare it to Dark Souls, it feels strange. Because this game is so easy to me now, I can mostly breeze through it. However, I’ve been playing since I was like…6. So. I have a lot of skin in the game. And it’s so much fun, I’ve been doing playthroughs where I eat it in one sitting. No saves. No death coins needed. Dark Souls is so damn challenging and…frankly boring (to me) it’s hard for me to compare it to this. I will say, it wasn’t always an easy game but I had the benefit of playing it for as long as I have. Had I grown up with Dark Souls, maybe I would enjoy them more. But I just don’t. This feels closer to like…Bloodborne, honestly. It’s a lot looser and a bit faster. But again, I’m biased. I prefer Bloodborne to Dark Souls. Much like, I prefer Maximo to both DS and BB. Due to the speed and overall pacing of the game. Loved the review. Love seeing this game get recognition. You should play the second one. It’s a bit more complex than this one is.
After getting through it the first time with the lives cheats, I did a partial second playthrough for extra footage without them and you're absolutely right, it does feel easier. It's a game that rewards you for mastering it's systems, and I love finding games that do that. I had a similar setup with Dark Souls because I grew up in the sticks with no internet, and didn't get a lot of new games even though I had a job back then. So I just kept slamming my head into that brick wall until it broke. Now it's a game I can blow through in a day because once you know it's systems, they are easy to exploit. Obviously Bloodborne had the benefit of learning from Dark Souls, but you're right, the flow of it's combat and the cohesiveness of it's design absolutely is better, it's probably better than all of the souls games because it's tight while they get a lot more bloated, but I've still only played it once compared to at least a dozen times for ds1 because it's the comfort game. I got off topic, but anyway. Definitely looking forward to the second one, though it will probably be awhile. I have a tendency to wander between genres. Thanks for checking the video out.
what's next, flossing?
Are you my dentist? If so, yes, but actually. No. Never.
You should review Medievil. You unlock memories when you played this game lol. I had the ratatouille moment 😂
I don't know why, but despite starting Medievil at least six times, I've never made it past the fifth level. I'll have to buckle down on it one of these days, it seems like a fun game. I just struggle with the attention span.
Spyro's so cool, and cute to boot
6:54 That was my experience the first time playing this level as well. I had to memorize every turret spot, random pipe explosion, and constant thing crawlers spawning. It was frustrating, but I made it to the end of the level. Overall I enjoyed The Thing game. The atmosphere and disturbing transformations this game offered made me want to complete it. The gameplay is clunky and buggy, but once you understand how the controls and guns work it is worth a play through!
It was unfortunate, I'm not sure if there was something else I could have done, but I made it to the start of that level with like 15% health and I could make it to the last ramp with that pipe explosion and couldn't get around it. If they put even one med pack in the start of the level, it would have been fine. I think I forgot to mention in the review, but one of the control styles gives you pretty standard third person shooter movement and camera controls, and I really appreciated that. Anyway, definitely an enjoyable game. Thanks for checking out the video.
Actually John Carpenters THE THING wqs supposed to be a remake of the original THE THING FROM OUTER SPACE but John Carpenter loved that movie so much he didnt want to remake so he pitched a kind of reboot instead and thats what made THE THING happen
I read something like that, and I think he was really upset when the director of THE THING FROM OUTER SPACE hated The Thing. That guy said something like "if you want to see blood, go to a slaughterhouse." It's interesting to see how the two persisted culturally though, I don't believe I've ever heard of THE THING FROM OUTER SPACE outside of the context of it's history with The Thing, though I'm not much of a film head. Anyway, thanks for watching.
You wanna hear my Eastshade-Story? Played it 3 years ago and loved it. Started drawing my self and the paintings were so good that my family, mainly my mother praised my paintings a lot. Kept painting for another year and got the biggest imposter syndrom from drawing, which translate into depression. So yea, this game gave me a gift and a curse. However, I am making my own version of skyrim without combat now, since Im a gamedev. Lets see how this story goes when the game is finished in two years (worked already two years on it).
Hey, if you're doing art at all, you're still better at it than 99% of the world. I think that's awesome, good luck with the game dev. I haven't dabbled in it in a long time, but I do love that kind of creative work too.
@@KalTheSkeleton thx man. Its like Danny, the main dev of eastshade, said in one of his recent postmortem videos on eastshade, that doing big projects is pure joy the initial 20% or so of the project(first year in his case), after this its a matter of pure endurance and will. Still fun, but from 20% to 80% its pure grinding. And at 80% to 100% its suppoused to be hell. Not there yet, but will see. I am trying to programm everything as simple as possible, to avoid complicated bugs. But developing any rpg is throwing a bunch of systems in a sandbox that interact with each other, so bugs are unavoidable (Oblivion). Looking forward to that 80% mark.
The Thing is likely my favorite mishandled franchise. Makes me wonder if a game along the lines of Telltales old games might have been a better option. Since, it's more psychological than action.
It really is a shame, they could have been printing money over all these years but they just... don't? I mentioned Gears of War because this version of it is so action focused, but a telltale or even some kind of social deduction roguelike would have been fantastic too. Monsters are always spooky, but it's the "it could be any one of us, even your best friend" that makes The Thing so special. I was trying to think of other poorly managed franchises, but I'm not much of a film head so I just bounced around Pokemon, Halo, and everything Konami has ever touched. I'm playing through a Castlevania right now thinking "This is great... what happened to this series?"
The story intro feels like it was written by a speed runner, so much happens in like 5 seconds.
"Yeah whatever there's a princess and a bad dude go! Kill skeletons!!!"
fun video, "i never playerd something that makes me pay to save" RE typewriter wants to have a word with you
Definitely a valid point, I think the idea I was totally failing to communicate was that money in Maximo only has a few uses. It's basically just there to save and buy healing items, and the game ties the safety of saving, armor and health together to balance the difficulty where almost every game I've ever played keeps saving and survival as separate functions. When you save in Maximo, you are actually choosing to give up some of your safety net to buy armor and potions. But again, not a bit of that came out of my mouth, so here we are. Anyway, thanks for watching.

I played this game for one day 20 years ago by complete chance. My dad’s friend from Oregon visited with his sons, they brought the game and we played it all day and night. My most visceral memory was of the different colored swords and everything feeling really novel. I never played the game again but the memory of playing it stuck with me, and it occasionally pops in my head randomly.

I have not, though I think I've seen videos about it from other youtubers I watch. It's on the list, but the list is so... depressingly long for the amount of time I have left.
@@KalTheSkeleton Just keep sticking to what interests you and I’m sure the videos will keep being awesome!
14:05 I can see you're using the Thich Quang Duc Gambit, very clever. Can't get Thingified if you're on fire first.
They'll never take me alive!
Tried playing through The Thing on the Og Xbox a year or so ago. Got soft locked after that crap boss fight you were able to cheese. Was liking the game until getting stuck. Hoping the upcoming remaster from Nightdive Studios turns out great. Damn shame we never got that sequel. Imagine if it came out on Xbox 360/PS3. You mentioned Syphon Filter, great franchise. Shame there's nothing like it today, especially the taser lol. If you're interested in another fun M rated 3rd person PS2/Xbox game? I'd recommend checking out The Punisher 2005.
That thing was miserable, I don't understand how it got through any kind of playtest. It's gotta be on top of the list of things to fix for the remaster though, right? I hope they can do it justice. I read that after this game was so popular, Computer Artworks took on like 5 contracts to make other games at the same time but didn't hire anymore staff, so when they couldn't get anything done, everyone stopped paying them and they collapsed. Poor management kill another golden goose. If they could have kept this going on later consoles, it could have been the next Resident Evil, but we'll never know. I spent so, so much time as a kid tazing dudes in the nuts until they caught on fire and just laughing... and laughing... I played through the first one again last year and it definitely holds up. I've never played it, but it looks pretty good. It's on the list to try one day in the future, thanks for the recommendation.
your copyright condom is about as thins as a lifestyles... make sure to pull out on the dismount! 10 out of 10 broham!
The only 100% effective forms of birth control are abstinence and my face. We'll throw out a prayer and hope youtube lets this one slide down her thigh.
Mandalore gaming and a Ssseth reference?? its gonna be a good video
I'm not in their league, but I hope to get a little closer with every video. Thanks for checking it out.
Good pull from the algo.
I really wish this would get released on ps5 even as a direct port. I loved this game and used to play all the time as a kid but I wish I could play it again
You're in good company with that wish. I thought no one cared about this game, but it seems more like I'm the only person who didn't grow up on it.
The sequel l, Maximo vs. The Army of Zin is MUCH improved. Give it a shot.
