    That's Hydraulic tappets making noises. The Rover V8's are notorious for low oil pressure due to oil pump wear. It's a relatively easy fix. Take the cap of the oil pump and get a machine shop to skim the inner surface of it to get rid of the score marks, and that will improve the oil pressure. The oil pressure gauge is going off the scale because the sender is dead, and it is shorting to the engine's Earth. I am not a troll. I have done this fix on a 420 SEAC, which is the Kevlar unicorn of TVR 'Wedges

      @@takumisato7126 parts are very available in the UK, there are a lot of these there. As for gas mileage, it was quite good for a petrol vehicle. My TDI Audi was fantastic!

    Don't take me personally, but I advise you to be very careful in a car with a manual gearbox with no one sitting at the wheel, always pull the handbrake all the way up (in the US you call it an emergency brake), especially when the car has the engine running. In this way, the car is always safe. As we can see in the video, the car has the engine running, gearbox in neutral and handbrake loose/completely down (and I see no warning handbrake light on on the dash). That way the car is completely loose and you are very lucky that the car does not start rolling by itself, because and in a manual gearbox there is no P (park) position to lock the car's transmission as in the automatic gearbox ... Never do that and always have the handbrake pulled up!

    You're seeing instantaneous consumption that rises and falls dramatically whenever you press or release the gas pedal because you're measuring gallons per hour and not miles per gallon. I understand that it is confusing because the way used by default in Europe to measure consumption is in liters per hour or liters/100km, being different in the US in miles per gallon and that is why the value that appears on the on-board computer does not vary so much. There are strange things in cars... I have a 2000 Fiat Punto, which is an Italian car, instead of having consumption in European standard liters/100km only appears KM/liter... go figure... The gearbox indicates the gear number because I think it's because Europeans are very used to manual gearboxes and like to know what gear the automatic gearbox is in.

    Such a good car, it's basically just a Starlet and in my opinion looks better than the Starlet V. Shame this one's a 3 speed auto, a 5 speed manual on a 1800lb car can feel pretty quick and gets better mpg.

    I live in UK, the previous owner has definitely abused it. If it shows 'inspect' on the dashboard, usually indicates a blown bulb. that starter button isn't factory, fun little features is if you tap the indicator rather than full click, the indicators will flash 3 times. Also when you stop, take the key out, flash the lights then exit, the lights will remain on for about 60 seconds. It's called 'follow me home' lastly the rain sensor should be the other side of the rear view mirror.

    These are fun little commuter cars. Simple, decent handling, decent comfort, excellent use of small space. I thought there was a GTI or GT version so maybe there are aftermarket "performance" parts available to tighten up the handling a bit.

    On auto transmission cars, radiators were recalled for combining transmission fluid and coolant. We added a separate transmission cooler to avoid this from happening (a second time)

    As with most Astras the check engine light is on. A very common problem. But you can either love them or hate them. Their cheap to insure , tax and run. I just bought one after borrowing my neighbours Astra. Mine is a 2007 and I just spent a little bit of money on rear suspension but it does handle very well on twists and turns. It's actually quirky and it took a while but it grew on me and I love driving it.

    That starter button is not original. That’s aftermarket. Also those pictures on the key buttons are supposed to symbolize an open door and a closed door. Yes, this does have rain-sensing wipers. Very ahead of its time back in 2008!

    • @blindness
      @blindness 2 місяці тому

      This button is really aftermarket because the Astra never had a start button. The button is completely useless, because if you always have to insert and turn the key, just turn everything all the way down instead of doing it in 2 separate steps of entering the key and pressing the button... useless and it's just to say this car has a start button...

    I have A 2008 SATURN ASTRA AUTO. 34000 MILES. I am having an issue with the alternator charging. Possibly it is bad. Noticed very weak power. I am going to change the crankshaft position sensor when I work on the alternator issue. I replaced the falling headliner. I find it a fun car. Leather seats, heated. I bought it for $1300.00. I fixed the radio and ac myself. I like the car very much. VERY UNIQUE AND APARENTLY RARE.

    • @dosgos

      Before changing the alternator. Do a voltage drop and check for corroded grounds. Especially at the ground from the starter to battery.

    interference engine with a belt ... make sure you change the belt at correct interval. I bought an 08 standard in TX and drove it to CT ... it is not a highway car. While it lasted it was an excellent town car. 160k and the timing belt let go.

    • @dosgos
      @dosgos Рік тому

      At 10 years or 100k miles, that timing belt was on borrowed time. Plus the tensioner and idler pulley.

    I have an 08 XR 5 door 5 Speed. Daily driver. Good build quality, great handling and brakes. Needs a bit more power, and a 6 speed. Wonderful, sporty city car. Not so great on the highway. The 3 door would be the better choice, if you can find one.
