Honolii surfing in the early 80's
Ancient raw video from the early 80's of Hans Geiger and Eddie Cheplic surfing Honolii. Sound track provided by Paulie Cheplic. Pretty damaged footage at first, but it cleans up.

Thank you for the great video. I started District 37 scrambles in Mojave in 1967 with my dad’s yellow 250 Bultaco Metisse. Not as powerful as the 40” Triumphs but a lot easier to handle by the end of the day. By the time I made expert in 1971, The Husqvarna 400 had replaced the British twin as the premier machine.

Motorcycling in the old days used to be a family affair it had a different air back then. People had a good time. Kids got memories that lasted for a lifetime. They could say their dad was a motorcycle racer and that was so cool.

Back in the Golden Age of motorcycles when you had real motorcycles and not a collection of government regulations on two wheels. Imagine the type of bikes they rode back then. Riders back then we're as tough as iron they were as tough as the motorcycles that they rode. I envy them.

@Arne Nelson. I've been keeping in touch with Rick "Super Hunky" Sieman and about 5 years ago,, I ordered a 1965 El Camino metal car, took it apart, painted the body school bus yellow, cut up a tooth pick real small and glued them to the dashboard as McDonald's French fries. I even made a tiny fry bag in McDonald's colors. I got 2 cheap plastic dirt bikes for the bed. (couldn't find good ones) I even put Dirt Bike Magazine stickers I made for the doors and a huge CZ "decal" for the roof. I sent it to him for Christmas with a wooden base and clear cover to display it. He wrote the forward for my book, The Dirt Gang" about my life on dirt bikes during the "Golden Age" of dirt biking (1964-1984) in and around Ventura County and the Mojave Desert. Online copies (lots of vintage pictures!) free at daviddaveinternational@gmail.com

Jim Robinson Great video. Awesome. Hard to believe the sleds we rode back then. Notice there wasn't any air time. Heavy metal. This looks a little later than 1964, perhaps '66 or '67 as I saw some bikes that were newer than 1964. The dez hasn't changed much. Thankfully the bikes have. Regards to Earl and Ron Shuler.

Ron Nelson and his brother Ted were close friends with my dad. They grew up together in Palmdale from 1940. I think they went to school in a 1 room, all grades school in Leona Valley together. So I got to watch them from a young age, Ron was winning desert and Ascot races. We all ended up in the same line of work, same construction company. Near the mid 70's Ron gave me some vital information. Tips on how to go around a corner at a high speed.
