If I find enough, I’ll make a response for you or I talk about how this is a clear example of children of alcoholism and help Clint clearly hasn’t broken that cycle just came back to watch this video cause it’s amazing.

    So, the algorithm sent me this (probably from me watching a bunch of Legends of Avantris clips) so I'll just say, you seem very chill. Maybe it's the editing but for someone so busy, you seem very mellow and not stressed out and that's cool. The weather going from hot to cold seems very "august" because of the whole summer to fall thing. I hope y'all don't get hurricanes and stuff where you're at, them things are not great. Also, the pants ripping thing is totally a flex lol but it does suck that that happened, good to see it ain't get ya down. Also, you reminded me that I gotta try boba tea one day. how long have you been doing D&D for?

      Thanks for the comment. It's always nice to see new people. Always glad to have you. I'm glad that I seem very chill to you. It always feels like I'm on the go but I appreciate that my chill vibes were communicated through the screen. Also I was just complaining about the cold weather but its 100F+ in Los Angeles right now. Pray for me haha. I've been playing DnD since start of the pandemic but have been roleplaying way longer than that

    Every single time I hear Ron talk to Terry Jr during The Tower of Terry episode and gives the speech about how if he "could just catch that one finish, catch that one fish and maybe my dad would be proud of me. But I was never able to catch the fish", I cry thinking how I felt a very similar way when I was his age.

    I think that Anthony's greatest strength as a DM is his fearlessness. Dungeons and Daddies is basically a game of chicken between the players and DM, and because they are ultimately loyal to their PC's characterizations, more often than not it's the players who blink first. More than any other DM I've seen, Anthony is willing to canonize the jokes his players make into the fabric of the game world along with all their logic and consequences, both comedic and dramatic. The result is twofold: first, it establishes a logical throughline between the moment-to-moment goofs and the emotional core of the story. Second, it allows the serious moments to sneak up on the audience before hitting them like a truck. Obviously the players deserve just as much credit for picking up on when to play a scene seriously, it takes a lot of trust in each other as storytellers for them to pull off what they do. I just find this a particularly noteworthy aspect of Anthony's DMing style.

    • @MJdoesstuff404
      @MJdoesstuff404 13 днів тому

      I fully agree with this. I think one of the best things about the show is that both the DM and the players are almost all on the same line. Anthony will mess with the players and the players will mess with Anthony. This creates a fun dynamic for comedic moments and for dramatic moments.

    Yes, Ron is the best dad. I get that in the beginning. He seems kind of one note but as you go on and learn about him and he gains that confidence and that comrade of his other dads, he just shines so much. He is my favorite character of all the daddies. He’s amazing.

    Amazing I’m also a big fan of this podcast I’ve literally have to stop myself trying to eat while listening to it because I’m nearly died several times just laughing out loud so much. I’m so glad you’re doing a very close analyzation. I have a bachelors degree in psychology and yeah deals with this association disassociation. It’s very act of self preservation. Also, I would say that Grant also has a very fawn trauma response in his adult life because he tries to make everyone feel happy. Which also means he doesn’t allow himself to be honest his own needs.

    • @DanielleMamaril
      @DanielleMamaril 21 день тому

      What else would I do with my English degree haha. But I'm glad to see a bunch of us are coming together to analyze this show. I'm glad to have gotten confirmation from you that i wasn't pulling the disassociation out of my ass. Glad to see you enjoyed the video i worked really hard on it. Thank sm!

    • @ShieldofApollo
      @ShieldofApollo 21 день тому

      @@DanielleMamaril yeah I feel ya. I’m using my bachelors degree in psychology to psycho analyze different books. Am I talking about the plot? No I’m psychologizing characters behavior, but yeah, I have disassociation disorder and the way that Grant talks about not feeling, got really close. So yeah, don’t worry about it. I got the feeling that you kind of were what’s the term. Winging it or getting an out of your ass, but it’s actually really close to the actual literature. For some people disassociation can be seen like avoiding an issue and another is just completely shutting off of emotions. And Grant shows the stereotypical signs of the ladder. But yeah, I’m glad to see someone sharing my love of this amazing podcast. I am so behind, but I’m just gonna have someone else just sharing my love.

    Spoilers for all of dndads, including mountains of daddies and s2! I’ve been thinking more and more how dndads works as an allegory for war trauma. The Mountains of Dadness shows a bunch of adults going through physically and emotionally traumatizing situations, (losing their lives in the process) because they had no idea what they were actually getting into. (Silent Gen) The next generation (boomers) grew up emotionally neglected, which lead to them continuing the cycle of neglect and violence (the parents of s1 dads.) After this, we have the s1 generation (Gen x/early millennials). Those who swore they would be the ones to break the cycle. They legit have no clue on how to fix these issues, and in multiple cases they create MORE trauma for his children After this we have the kiddads (late Millennials/gen Z). They were able to have relatively alright early childhoods before being violently shoved into the line of fire. The seeds of the unhealthy family dynamics they were experiencing as young children rounded its ugly head. Let’s remember that the trauma the kiddads go through started BEFORE season one! It’s just that season one exposes all the issues. It turns everything to 100% And now we have s2 (Gen Alpha). Kids growing up in a post-apocalyptic world (more war, global warming, take your pick), trying desperately to fix and issue they had no hand in making. The difference is they aren’t trying to break the cycle alone. They have their parents and grandparents trying desperately to fix it too. They have friends who have been going through the same shit as them. Are they developing unhealthy coping mechanisms? Absolutely. But at least they stand a chance. They rely on eachother. Breaking inter-generational trauma isn’t about breaking everything down. That’s impossible. One person/generation can’t destroy what has been building for five times longer. That’s not how it works. But we can start. We can create the cracks. We can give our kids the tools to help us destroy what has been destroying us. We don’t have to do this alone I just think the fandom needs to spend less time blaming the characters for doing what they thought was the only option. Does their trauma justify/excuse their actions? No. Not at all. But it gives them a reason. It’s a point of reference. They’re all extremely realistic trauma representations. The oaks, the Wilson’s, the Stampler/Marlowes, and the Close/Swifts. They’re genuinely so realistic, I had to take a few breaks from the podcast as someone with ptsd. We see how trauma can actually be violent. I’m really sick and tired of people trying to separate mental health issues from violence, because they’re so often connected. We accidentally push forward the trauma we went through, even if we’ve done everything we can to stop this. You can’t stop trauma. You can’t. Sometimes things happen that are completely separate from you. We need to stop blaming these characters and focus on HELPING them. None of them started this. Technically, Dood did. The representation of chaos and violence. I do genuinely adore this video. It’s so rare we see dndads content, and this was lovely. A very quick and easy guide for people just getting into dndads! Also, small notes from my brain We actually see that Lark was always somewhat more violent/aggressive. Even before the whole “rouge” thing, lark is a little “off”. The original ending for Glenn and Nic was gonna be them going to Morgan’s grave and finally confronting that trauma. But Glenn never even got that chance. Grant (from my perspective) as PTSD, Dissociation and derealization disorder, and depression. All of which makes complete sense I think the reason Ron and Terry have the best relationship is because he’s “new”. The trauma we see from the others started far before season one, but we know that Ron hasn’t been in Terrys life for more than a year Hope my comment wasn’t too overwhelming lmao!

      Also, because I’m a Glenn apologist, I’m gonna out this here I think people forget that Glenn loves his kid. He’s kinda wild at times, and he’s not the best father, but he would truly do anything for Nic and Morgan. He loves them so much. Losing Nic was one of the worst thing to happen to him, along with losing Morgan. His whole rockstar persona is just that- a persona. He had to make the choice to lose his child. Of course he isn’t okay at the end of season 1. He just decided to keep that under wraps because he’s uncomfortable with being open There’s a part where Glenn admits to the dads that he still considers himself married to Morgan despite her being gone for years at this point. That isn’t something someone who’s been through grief therapy says. He immediately tries to joke about it, “It’s fine! The ladies love it when you’re married”. It genuinely sounded like Glenn was on the verge of tears (Freddie is an amazing VA btw!) He can’t be open with the dads about Morgan and how that affected him, why would he be open about Nic? He chose to give up his son so that Nic wouldn’t need to lose two parents. That’s absolutely heartbreaking. I’m glad everything turned out alright for him in the end, being able to get with Morgan2 and become the dad/stepfather to Nic, but god. People talk about Glenn as if he’s some 20 year old player who’s never made a human connection in his life. Before prison he’s what, mid 30s? Maybe early 40s? He’s barely middle aged and he’s already a widow with at least one dead parent. I love him so much, he’s so underrated. He’s an addict, sure, but WHY do people get addicted in the first place? He’s self medicating. Even if we pull away from the cannon of the show, Glenn (and the rest of the cast) are all autism or adhd coded. A surprising amount of neurodivergent people use drinking and drugs to try and “level themselves out” (aka become so out of it/numb that they are no longer stressed) When we see Nic finally fully remembers Glenn, he’s not angry. He’s not mad, he’s not vengeful. He protects Glenn from Jodie. He actively brings Glenn over to Morgan2. Despite everything, I fully believe Glenn is a good father considering everything. His kid is safe, content, and loves Glenn. When he gets out of prison, he wants to make sure NIC is okay. The only way he got through prison in the first place was thinking about Nic. He made the hardest choice of his life to protect Nic. Even when other characters shit talk Narcholas, he stands up for this trashy version of his kid. A kid who doesn’t remember him, who downright *hates* him. He’s suppressed. I wish people in the fandom would stop treating Glenn like some stupid kid. Is he perfect? No. Is he an absolute idiot? Yes! But he lost his father, wife, and son. He died trying to save his friends. He CAME BACK to save his friends. Hell, without him, Darryl would have never gotten out of the forgotten realms (due to him finding Paedon) He’s a single father trying to balance a job that he’s ashamed of and taking care of his kid. Could he have done better? Sure. But he never even got the chance. Darryl, Henry, and Ron got to have their moments with their kids and parents when they found the anchor. Glenn was put behind bars and isolated for YEARS while his kid was being raised by a damn cop. I’m surprised he didn’t immediately fall apart. Isolation is a genuine HUMAN TORTURE METHOD. Glenn was angry at HIMSELF at the court with the whole amusement park thing. He finally realized that he didn’t know his son as well as he thought he did. I fully believe it was his “oh no” moment. He finally understood that his child has been adjusting himself to be “better” for Glenn. It’s so heart breaking. And then people USE THAT against him in the trial. He just had a huge lightbulb moment and now his son is being taken away. His son, his one person, was taken away from him. He had to make that choice. He had to say “the first option”. His father oversaw the entire operation. The man he fashions himself after. His wife is still alive, married to this new man. His wife and son are linked to a damn cop. And despite all of this, he made it through. He saved his friends. In season two we get to see that he’s still going through it! He’s still coping unhealthily! He was destined to fail. Absent father, practically single mother, dead wife, not-a-son son, over a decade of the worst known torture. And yet he made it through. This is why I fucking love Glenn

    I think the whole time warp thing really did Fuck up Nick. It wasn't a solution to a bad parenting situation, it was just a Punishment for Glenn, and it only created more problems. Yea, Glenn wasn't a good father, but ripping his son away from him and forcing him to ROT AWAY IN PRISON FOR 20 YEARS understandibly didn't facilitate character growth, it just traumatized both him and Nick further. Nick was a full person, and this time warp took all autonomy from him to forcibly make him someone else, someone more acceptable in society's eyes. He got no say in this. And when he eventually gets his memories of the original timeline back and becomes a half demon, he's torn between identites and worlds. Jodie, who was a stable father figure for him, is essentially revealed to be a fabrication, and is now an entirely different person as this hell demon. And Glenn, "freed" from the one stable thing in his life, when the one good thing he always strived for was to do what's best for his son, Glenn just spirals further into this hard rock rebel Shell. He doesn't grow as a person, and he sure as hell isn't half of the stable father figure in Nick's life that he was before the time warp. Basically what i'm saying is that Nick's life became a fucking mess. And he had to grow up in this chaotic environment, with two confused, messed up demon father figures instead of the one flawed but trying one. And then all his friends stabbed him in the back. Nick's not a bad father because he was trying to be a "cool guy", he's a bad father because he grew up in the most chaotic environment imaginable and learned to distrust everyone in his life, not able or willing to let anyone, not even his own family, close anymore

      You are #1 Glenn defender But fr you def did bring up a lot of points that didn't cross my mind. Ig I find it difficult to be sympathetic to Glenn as opposed to Nick b/c Nick was the kid in the situation. I really appreciate your commentary though. I'm gonna let it marinate in my brain for a lil bit

But since i forgot to say this in the original comment: great video, it's awesome to see people talk about this podcast!

    I think we know Glenn loves Nick because of episode 48, where he does decide to allow Nick being taken away because Glenn would rather lose his kid and soend his life in torture jail than let Nick become an orphan. Thats one scene that i actually found powerful revolving around Glenn But since Glenn was emotionally neglected, he didnt know how to express grief to his kid. Both of them lost Morgan, who out of the two parents was def the better one, and since he never had either parent around he didnt know how to share in his grief w Nick. And in that they become more like buddies than father and child

      I agree with a lot of what you said. I mean Bill explains a lot about Glenn. Ig Glenn did break a generational curse in the sense that he's the first to actually unconditionally love his son.
