Few people are aware that Adolph Hitler had a hand in designing the Volkswagen. Hitler wanted a car that every German family would be able to afford. The "People's Car" (Volkswagen) was made available through a savings plan and cost $396 USD in 1938 (about $8600 in today's money). I had a Jewish friend who would never buy a VW because of Hitler's influence over its founding. He also disliked Ford products, as he regarded Henry Ford as an antisemite. The only cars he ever believed in were Chrysler products (i.e., Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge).
A majority of people are aware of this.
@@Drawson663 I doubt that they are.
@@Woozler554 Your generalizations are sweeping lol. If you were alive with these cars, you’re aware, there’s a million jokes about that during there time. Im sure you speak to a younger generation that is probably less familiar but, this is common knowledge for a majority of adults who grew up with them. I didn’t grow up in that time and I know that. Thanks for the wiki copy and paste tho, I’m sure it’ll help someone unfamiliar. You forgot to mention anything about what Mercedes and BMW did…
@@Drawson663 Actually, I was referring to the older generation, but younger people today are even less aware of these things. A lot of them today don't even know what a VW is. Don't take too much for granted. Most people are not nearly as knowledgeable as you might think.
@@Woozler554 I will take your reccomendation if you only examine your cynicism🧐
Katy was great
"Register commies not guns. What does that mean?" "He was probably a member of the National Rifle Association - a group to help criminals get guns so they can shoot citizens. It was a public service."🤣😂
Nonce
"The NRA helps criminals get guns so they can shoot people..." 🤣
The very best violin solo of all pop rock music. Thanks The Who. This is not dependent of the violin player. This is a masterpiece. How happy I am for having the possibility to ear this solo along my last 50 y of my life. I’m 70… independently of violin player…
promo sm 😻
saw then at Durham , Daltrey still has a powerful voice , they were brilliant
Good drummer!
This sounds rich with the orchestral back up absolutely superb!!
VW beetle is a stolen design from the Czech Tatra anyway.
"I believe there's someone watching over us..." Yeah, and it looks like he's filming this on his mobile phone from his flat screen TV.
Pedophile Jews have been anti NRA even before mass shootings, that should tell you something.

The NRA joke wasn't true.......then.
This "cave" which was actually a mine tunnel is in Griffith Park in L.A. The scene being chased by the police was filmed in Monterey County CA. at Moores Lake which is on Rancho San Carlos/ Santa Lucia Preserve exclusive private residential area of Carmel Valley.
If Ted Kennedy had been driving a VW Beetle at Chappaquiddick, he might have become president.
That joke was in the National Lampoon about 50 years ago.
When we were young, we bought a bug, hadn't been started for 10 years! We push started it, it started right up! That's German engineering! Amazing!
Honestly, I can believe that it started right up.
Back when Stuart Alan Konigsberg made funny movies. oh, Where did we go wrong?
He went woke. You know: get woke, go broke.
@@starguy2718 Woody Allen is anything but woke.

The NRA...."it was a group that helped criminals get guns so they could shoot citizens"
I saw this in a theater when it first came out. When he says, "It's a 200 year old Volkswagen!" and it starts right up, the whole audience exploded in laughter!
I had the same experience. Only when l saw it, we all applauded.
Same! 13 years old. The audience both roared with laughter and applauded
My favorite scene. Woody- may you live longer than the VW!
The NRA gag....yeah that's about right
Yes, criminals ALWAYS register their guns before committing crimes. What an imbecile.
A Datsun 1200 or 510 would actually be more reliable than a Beetle but I'm glad they didn't destroy one as they are much rarer than Beetles now.
why you think so? japanese cars are great but bugs re bulletproof
Not at the time they weren’t - VWs from this era were amazingly reliable and durable. The Japanese were starting to get it but still had a way to go.
Indeed. Unlike the Beetles, the Datsuns all rusted away.
I think VWs rust just as much .. even quite modern ones. (And Mercedes) @@andrewpreston4127

Diane Keaton... AWWWww yeah...
Dianne Hall, aka Annie Hall birth name
Noooooooo beetle 😭😭😟
14 thumbs down by NRA members
Love this scene! And the movie.
*R.I.P Herbie*
At the time volkswagens were considered extremely reliable. They had a reputation for always starting no matter the weather or how long they'd been sitting. This was a reputation not shared by other automakers at the time . That's what makes the fact that it started right up great.
Everybody knew that. That's why the joke worked!

Volkswagen RULES!
Between the high Deutschmark to dollar and the original tooling wearing out quality was starting to slip around that time.
Except for the scene where they shove the bug over the cliff, I otherwise loved the movie "Sleeper". But to be fair, back in 1973, when the movie was released, early 1960s VW bugs were not "vintage classics" yet as they were still very common. Therefore this should be taken into account. What Woody Allen said about the NRA was hilarious and spot on BTW.
Worst is where they blow up a Jaguar XKE in Casino Royal ('67) or a Jag off the cliff in The Jerk
286. Dodge chargers destroyed in the DUKES OF HAZZARD. TV. SERIES
@@rsprockets7846 Now they have computer animation that can be used in the future to depict car crashes, rather than destroy vintage Classics. Yes, movie audiences can still tell that it’s computer aided animation. But the quality is good enough that I for one feel there is no more justification for destroying old cars.
Yes, criminals ALWAYS register their guns before committing crimes. Moron.
thanks for posting. Great evening.
