I got a good story about James Hagler. I actually fought him as an amateur boxer in 1991. I was in the Army and we put a team together to compete in the Georgia State Games held at Georgia Tech. It was my first time fighting with very little training and I weighed 208 and the cutoff for super heavyweight was 206. So I was the smallest guy in the super heavyweight division. I beat the first guy but sprained my ankle BAD. So I had to face James Hagler on the second day with an ankle so big I could barely tie my shoes. I thought I was winning on points but the ref stopped the fight in the 3rd round with less than a minute left. He asked me about my limping and I told him I was fine I could make it the next 45 seconds. He makes me stand on one leg and I couldn't do it. So he stops it and gives James the Gold and me the Silver medal. I actually thought they were lying about who he was until his coach showed us the championship ring Marvin Hagler had given him when he was his coach. If you read this James, I'm ready for our rematch!! Just kidding, I'm too fat and old now but I did want to say your Dad was my favorite boxer growing up.

I'm so freaking pissed at this interview. Andy wanted what he wanted and he found it but the drugs owned him. But never say that Malfunction was all he wanted.He loved workin with Jeff and Stone got together he knew that was what he wanted. Chris Cornell even jnew what they had going for them . Absolutely Malfunction got him started but never deny what MLB gave them all. And all I can say is only what if. He was the rock star that he always wanted to be and he owed it 100%

Carey is right on the money. Oliveri created girl-friendly songs/melodies and had a lyrical style that didn't appeal to females. Because of the simplicity of most humans, they should have comitted to one way or another instead of trying to walk both sides. People are simple, they get confused easily. Metallica or Bon Jovi...? I am a person who appreciates the technical and the melodic, but I am the few. Also, Dean is the most basic of drummers, so how the heck is he supposed to judge the composition and fidelity of the other guys. He chips drum notes quite a bit himself, so weird that he would hold others to a different standard. Black Knight is a master-piece of guitar composition.

I have been following the Montgomery Brothers since March 2011. Maliek is an awesome fighter with a come forward, fan friendly style and that can't be denied! A matchup between Maliek Montgomery and Emanuel Navarrete will be a high profile fight. Most people will write Maliek off because they don't know much about him, but once they see him in action against a style like Emanuel, it will change their minds quickly because Maliek will defeat him with his busy style and excellent timing, resulting in a loss for Navarette. This will launch Maliek Montgomery into the spotlight where he rightfully belongs. He is Joe Frazier in Super Featherweight form and I mean that literally! Great interview!

If you could pass along a message to Gary Lee...my dad was close with Mark toward the end of his days (Lanegan) before his Ireland emigration. Mark regretted what he said in the book, and he loved Gary Lee like a brother. Quietly, Mark claimed that Gary was one of the best and most innovative guitar players he ever worked with. Sometimes a person will do things or say hurtful they may in fact mean, have they a grievance, and tbey will not also say the other things that they also feel...for every hurtful thing I think there was an equally large positive thing, he just did not state those things publicly. Its a common mistake we all make, good to try and remember that any day it could all be over. Air the grievances if one must, just don't forget the reciprocal piece and to share that, too.

Great podcast! I started following boxing as a young teenager. My favorite fighters were and still are Pacquiao, Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Shane Mosley, Bernard Hopkins, Kelly Pavlik, Joe Calzaghe, Shannon Briggs, Jermaine Taylor, Antonio Tarver and the list goes on. I fell in love with Floyd Mayweather as well, but I feel like his fame casted a shadow over all boxers rising the ranks in his era and after. I don't blame Floyd at all though.
