Now if they offer a retirement visa for years, we retired people would love to know about things like the climate in Port Louis, whether it's oppressively humid, whether the city is difficult to walk around, infrastructure, whether it's a hilly city, and what kind of health insurance coverage retired people in Mauritius have. Hi Timo, an Australian here. How does the constant cyclones and rain affect the real estate values and infrastructure of Mauritius and are some coasts more affected than others? Here in Australia we can easily avoid cyclones even within the same state like Queensland, because the cyclones hit Northern Queensland, but peter out further south and Brisbane further south very seldom gets affected due to the sheer size of the state. One cattle farm here is twelve times bigger than the whole of Mauritius, so that makes me think the whole country of Mauritius gets wiped out in a cyclone and being on an island the recovery period must be years affecting infratructure, electricity and water which in turn affects real estate prices if your house is still standing.

They don’t offer dual citizenship though.

I think what puts people off Mauritius is that you cant become a citizen and they dont allow dual citizenship. They should offer a citizenship by investment program like other countries and allow dual citizenship.

Why do most people live on the west and north coast of Mauritius? I quite liked Beau Champ and Trou d'Eau Douche when I visited. Im looking to retire there and I was thinking of Anahita or One and Only villas.

Question, as far as I am understanding, purchasing the property will not qualify you for the 375k property investment permit meaning that those on occupational permit would not be able to use this property purchase to switch to a 375k+ 20 year permit?

What about converting an overseas driving licence to a Mauritius one? What's that process like?

Hi. Regarding the retirement permit, The Mauritius government website states it’s only a 3 year permit, and the annual requirement is 40,000 USD, not 18,000. Is their website out of date? Thanks.

My two cents on this video: While I agree that you have the expertise, I would advise opting for someone local. The reason is that someone who isn't from the island can never fully understand the specific issues and concerns of the area unless they were born and raised there. For instance, I know of a place where there was a hole near a mountain. Over the last five years, it was filled in with soil, and recently, multimillion-dollar houses were built on it. Good luck to those expats buying those beautiful houses. The day we have heavy rainfall, that place will likely experience a landslide, and there have already been cases of soil sliding near that area. My recommendation is to deal with someone local and get a good lawyer.

Hi Timo. Came across your UA-cam channel. Been doing research on Mauritius for the last 6 months. I'm a South African living abroad looking at purchasing a property in Mauritius in 2025. I'm looking at a place to retire. Ive been abroad for more than 25 years. I was looking at golf estate properties in the western cape but I'm not happy with the way the country is going. I'm only 44 years old but have been fortunate to work as a cfo for a very large international company. You being South African makes me feel much better dealing with your company. Let me tell you if I had the money I would be looking you up to buy this? Even though it is on the southeast side of Africa there is nothing in America worth while staying for? This to me is even nicer than most of the Florida condos I have seen?
