This Is Millom
Millom is a strange town. In some ways it is more like a Welsh mining town than Lakeland. It has some of the most stunning landscapes in the lake district, an amazing estuary and an extraordinary profligacy of birdlife (with its own RSPB sanctuary). Yet it has never quite recovered from the loss of its dominant industries: a huge iron mine complex and an ironworks. It has become a holiday destination but mainly on the beach side caravan and chalet sites. It is a town looking for a future. In that it is probably much like the rest of Britain.

MI5 tries to stop me swimming (again)
Переглядів 5Місяць тому
You would have thought with rioters in the streets across the UK, police stations and hotels aflame and the courts overwhelmed with arrested ultra right wing protesters, that MI5 would have had better things to do than to block me booking a swim! But it appears not. Of course it is possible that thousands of people were booking swims at Barrow Leisure Centre this morning and that was what cause...
What does MI5 do? Why it smears people!

What is the point of a public inquiry? Well when it comes to the UK Undercover Policing Inquiry clearly it is not to actually find out what happened when the cameras are turned on. Trevor Morris is a former undercover police officer. He was one of the team who infiltrated left wing and environmental groups in the 1990s. Not a nice man. You may notice that right wing groups that riot or burn dow...
MI5 & GCHQ think they can decide what I view on my computer

For many years now my computer use has been restricted and directed by the intelligence services. I don't know why they do it. I don't want to know. But those of you who think they may have some genuine concern (they believe I am a terrorist or criminal) should consider why would they be so clumsy? Why would they make it perfectly obvious what they are doing? If they wanted to catch me doing so...
MI5 wants copies of my video (but they don't want to pay)

I find this very hard to believe. MI5/ GCHQ or some agency working for the spooks has been making my life a misery for many years. Their mantra is: Deny, degrade, disrupt, deceive. But if you look at the video you can see that whatever it is that they have been doing via Terminal (the Linux window in Mac), they have been doing for a long time. Some of the file names used are several months old....
MI5 blocks Nord VPN

Until... the wonders of the screen recorder. Again and again a pop up, put there by GCHQ or a contractor working for one of our lack of intelligence services, blocked me using the Nord VPN I have paid for. Can I take a county court action against MI5? Deny, Disrupt, Degrade, Deceive.

Hackers using popups to block MI5 related post on X

I've been using Twitter fairly often since it changed its name to X (I did use it before, as well). But I never use the X app (if there is one). I use my browser. I knew Clarence personally, in the late 1990s..... a superbly talented artist, a lovely, kind man, very, very clever, entertaining and a marvellous raconteur. He was willing to impart his knowledge and experience and never boasted, or pushed himself forward. I lost touch with him when I moved from London, sadly. Is he still painting? I do hope so...... what a lovely gentleman.

    They were both addicts meeting each other - mirrors. I got into recovery from alcohol a year before Amy passed and it makes me so sad that she could have made it if she wasn’t hounded constantly by the press. They saw her as a “ product” with no compassion for her wellbeing at all. Addiction is a terrible thing you need to understand it and its source before you start the long road to recovery. Amy didn’t have a chance really. Bless her. I’m glad Blake is trying to get his life back. Until society sees addiction as a mental, physical and spiritual illness and treat addicts with compassion and care and not something weak and dirty shameful we get nowhere in stopping this epidemic. Be the solution

    The Earth was warmer in the recent and distant past. It warmed faster in the past. If you took away El Niño, a record increase in Total Solar Irradiance, and the Tonga eruption (all natural events) there would have been nothing to see in 2023. The Tonga eruption injected 142 megatonnes of water vapour into the stratosphere, increasing its water content by 15%. Water vapour is a far more powerful greenhouse gas than CO2. Total solar irradiance: satellite data from 1979 onwards shows June 2023 at an all time high in over 40 years of measurements (ncei.noaa). There were lows below 1361 W/m² in 2019 to current highs over 1362 W/m² in June (using a lowess curve, which also shows the fastest rate of increase during this recent period). So we are looking at a change of around 1½ Watts over the course of 5 years (the maximum difference is 2.1W/m²). That may not sound much but it exceeds the increase in the Earth's Energy Imbalance (0.9 W/m², 2018 - 1.97 W/m², 2023) (NASA CERES EBAF TOA). Overall the current increase in solar irradiance should give a direct global heating effect of +0.1°C, with an indirect effect of +0.2°C (after Schmutz, 2021). This increase in solar irradiance is related to an earlier than expected increase in sunspot activity, which has not yet reached its zenith, and that may not happen for several years (Royal Observatory Belgium), so further heating from this cause can be expected. So increase in TSI 2019- 2023 = 2.1W/m2. Increase in EEI for the same period ≈ 1W/m². Maybe I'm being dense, but doesn't that mean that without the increase in TSI, the EEI would be in negative territory? Sea surface temperatures (SST) were trending downwards 2000-2018 (HadSST 4), and from 1950-1980, and from 1880-1910. The oceans warmed at a faster rate 1910-1940 than 1980-2010. Remember CO2 has been accumulating in the atmosphere at an accelerating rate all the time, so there is little correlation between the two. The ocean has warmed (and cooled) rapidly and repeatedly during the current interglacial with no correlation to CO2 e.g. 10,300-10,200 years before the present (y BP), 9,500y BP, 6,000-5,900y BP, 5,400-5,300y BP, 2,500-2,300y BP, 1,700-1,600y BP (Berner et al., 2008). There is a high frequency (18 events) of SST variability on the order of 1-3°C during a 10-50 year time resolution throughout the Holocene in the North Atlantic with no correlation to CO2.

The Post Office ran a series of Travelling Post Office trains to celebrate 150 years of T.P.O's and 50 years since the film Night Mail was produced, hauled by Mallard. Technically Firefox is safer, you might have something sniffing the packets, if you go to settings and list all the apps and write them in a reply I might be able to figure out what's causing this. Also it's not that hackers hate it. Firefox is a wee bit more exploitable as when you allow popups once, it never stops popups unlike chromium browsers like Ms edge and chrome

    Wonder if the original sha256 pipe issue mentioned in your 2022 post is just an artifact of the order in which bash commands are processed. Where the `> some.file` bit gets processed ahead of the sha256 command completing -- hence no output yet. Known issue when working with bash. Worth looking into the sponge command (should be available natively on most Linux distros).

      Quite right. It is. But my point was (which I made a number of times) that I killed the process and it kept coming back. There were also about three other desktop sharing packages that mysteriously appeared. I didn't mention that in the video. However, bloody useful to know (from the video you suggested) that locking prevents desktop sharing, so thanks for that. It was also interesting to hear Crazy-Logic give away his ip address. I didn't think you were supposed to do that...

    • @DurgaKhote
      @DurgaKhote 2 роки тому

      @@jonathanbrind I'll need to confirm this, but I suspect that -- by design -- Ubuntu automatically attempts to relaunch the remote desktop daemon if it terminates for some reason. This would save having to physically visit the machine to restart it in the event you genuinely wanted to remotely connect to it. From a security point of view, having this feature disabled by default would be preferable. But hey, that's Ubuntu for you! The IP address in the video is a private (local network / 192.168.x.x) address so not a huge deal here. Agree though - sharing your public IP address is not advised.

    There are stories of the Southern beating 126mph at the end of steam with Merchant Navy and West Country class loco's, No dyno car but recorded by people with stop watches counting the mile posts so not authenticated! They told the driver of speeds above 130mph one time 142mph, this was down hill from Worting Junction near Basingstoke to Salisbury on a non stop train from Waterloo to Salisbury, The driver said to them "That maybe correct but you tell no one or put that in print!" so we will never know for sure but there are stories out there.

  • @JamesSmith-mv9fp
    @JamesSmith-mv9fp 2 роки тому

    Another little known factor in Mallards record breaking run, was revealed by O.S.Nock (CME Westinghouse Brake & Signal Company), who was an invited guest. He revealed that Driver Duddington had NOT been properly informed of what was being planned. The problem was NOT the LMS record of 114mph, but the then recent (1936) record of the German DR class 05 4-6-4 streamlined loco of 125mph ! Driver Duddington who was Mallards regular driver was a little upset that they had NOT told him they wanted to take a crack at the World Speed record. It was Bulleid (then assistant to Gresley) who went through the Corridor tender onto the footplate, soon after the test run left Barkeston triangle. When Mallard started its decent of Stoke bank, Bulleid told Duddington to "Thrash it" which led to events transpiring the way they did. However Duddington's complaint at the time, was that if they had warned him earlier, that they were after cracking the World Record. He would have had time to prepare Mallard properly for such an attempt. This he felt would have avoided the problem that occurred with the Middle Big end, and also allowed Mallard to probably have reached 130mph without trouble !!!! Having also been to the German Railway Museum in Nurnburg. I complained to their Museum Curator about the wording on the (multi-lingual) plaque, in front of their preserved German Class 05 4-6-4 streamlined loco. Which read "Worlds fastest steam loco in 1936, which achieved 125mph" Which leads many Germans & others, to believe their loco, not Mallard is the Worlds fastest !! The German loco (No: 05-002) achieved 125mph on dead level track, but only hauling two coaches which weighed in total, less than the engine. That record was set on 11th May 1936. The German engine is also significantly bigger & more powerful than Mallard, being rated at around 2,500hp, & like Mallard has 3 Cylinders. (Unlike Britain the Germans don't use "Tractive effort" as a power rating for steam). 😝

    • @Rosie6857
      @Rosie6857 2 роки тому

      It is impossible to believe that Driver Duddington (and his fireman) were not told that an attempt was to be made on the speed record. Duddiington was selected by Gresley as being a known fearless hard driver who was not afraid to give his engine a bit of welly if he felt like it. Equally his Fireman must have made up a huge fire for the loco to achieve the speeds it did. The ascent to Stoke Summit from Grantham was probably some sort of record in itself and the speed at the top was 74 mph which required the loco to be given not a thrashing but a real pounding. No driver would do that just for the fun of it - the speed had to be as high as possible at the start of the record attempt. Bulleid could not possibly have been on the footplate of Mallard. He left the LNER in 1937, seven months before the Mallard run and became the CME of the Southern Railway.
