@@philnelson940 Higher seats definitely put your center of gravity higher and can increase your chances of flipping however(especially on lower end kayaks)I have actually raised my seat 3 inches higher on my personal kayak. The reason he flipped his kayak was because he hit a rod while paddling and it went overboard and he tried to reach for it as it was falling. He over extended to one side and flipped. Having a higher seat poses little to no threat especially on the higher end kayaks being that some of them are very stable. Furthermore sitting on the kayak with no seat is very uncomfortable. Comfort plays a huge role when kayak fishing for extended periods of time

​@@valleyshenanigansI almost made that mistake my first time kayak fishing. A bass boat came by and rocked my rod off the back. I looked back and could see it slowly sinking. Just had to let it go. LoL

@@valleyshenanigans With respect, if he was sitting lower then reaching for a falling rod and over extending to the side might not have caused the flip in the first place. I had a business selling fishing kayaks for a living and I can assure you of 4 things. 1).. Those flat-bottomed Lifetime Teton boats are far from 'top end'. 2).. The difference between being upright & flipping a flat-bottomed hull is a knife edge. You get almost no warning before going too far. 3).. High end sit-on-top boats all have low, wet seating. 4).. You can find plenty of seat pads that make things a lot more comfortable. Much more comfortable than sitting in wet clothes knowing 1/2 your gear has sunk to the bottom of the lake.

@philnelson940 oh yeah lifetime are low end yaks forsure I was referring to higher end kayaks like native, hoodo, hobby have a far higher seat than the lifetime teton pro but I hear ya👏 flipping a kayak is no joke

@@JMag1 I personally have no problem in a self rescue situation as a matter of fact I always encourage anyone that is getting into kayak fishing to learn this because it can save your life, especially in the colder months. Self rescue was the first thing I learned when I bought my 1st kayak many years ago. In this particular situation my customers are not fully trained to self rescue as I am Guiding them and I am there to help like you seen in the video, however I always brief customers on safety or potential hazards. As for the kayak crate it definitely makes it more difficult but not impossible. Having a strap on one of the handles like you mentioned is a great idea in case of a self rescue situation.
