A few suggestions of how to get a little better at Teki Paki, I am far from an expert but maybe it'll help folks get to grips with it.

Nice list and would mostly align with my discoveries apart from Batsugun and the Namco games. Keep up the awesome work!
11:54 looks somewhat like a turn-based Gateway to Apshai
1:03 the Legend of Silk Road just got pardoned ftfy
Try some of the other modes - Target Loopz is great practice!
Some good strategies on display here. Leaving a place for quick C block pairs is great. For big points you have to do as many full screen loopz as you can early. Also never use erasers on a loop you can complete.
In general the most important thing is to not build loopz that require getting too many of the same pieces to complete.
@@KeenRetroGames yeah those C blocks are almost always followed up pretty quickly. I don't think this was a particularly great example of gameplay, I was pretty rusty.
THE BEST
Well... Toaplan Tetris is still infinitely better than that Pac Man Tetris game... _INFINITELY._
What do you think the odds are that we'll now get a sequel, TP2? The interview with the creators in the Evercade manual seem to hint at regrets: that they never succeeded in really making a game to rival Tetris and Columns.
There's a further sequel to Dig Dug that combines gameplay gameplay aspects of parts 1 & 2 that is ONLY on the Nintendo DS: I always say it's a masterpiece, but I've never played it for more than 5 minutes (in total). I spend EXTREMELY LITTLE time actually playing video games: this is neither a boast nor a complaint, but I just feel a bit odd saying, "It's an amazing game, you'd love it!" when I own a copy, but never play it -and basically only played it long enough to see that it was working.
@@eiselmazard4716 I have played Digging Strike extensively and can say with confidence that it is the best of all Dig Dug games.
It really does seem to be a masterpiece, Digging Strike on the DS, I just haven't put in the hours to really say so with any certainty. Inuktitut SEEMS like a difficult language to learn, but...@KeenRetroGames
@ I'm still working on Algonquian languages myself

@5:00 I owned this cart and had to send it back for a refund: HOW did you get it to run with the correct aspect ratio? Unless they fixed it with one of the OS updates, Hebereke (Ufouria) ALWAYS RAN with the image stretched too wide, even when you selected "pixel perfect", you could never get it to run in pixel perfect mode. The other people who reviewed the game (I had a youtube channel, now banned, where I reviewed the game at the time) affirmed this, with their copies of the cart -including Brits in the UK.
@@eiselmazard4716 it has always run perfectly fine for me on every device
My top 10 in rough order: - Nightshade - Ishido - Psycho Pinball - Dragon View - Böbl - Tapeworm Disco Puzzle - Super Robin Hood - Dr. John and the Mysterious Stones - Burning Force - Tänzer I owned Ishido before it came out on the Evercade but I never really "got" it.
@@KeenRetroGames I still need to play through Nightshade, that's been on the backlog a while. Will do super robin hood as my next clear, although I have played that before. Tanzer, Psycho pinball, Bobl and dragon view were in consideration.
My Discoveries thanks to Evercade are: 1. In The Hunt: Got the Irem Arcade for R-Type and Moon Patrol but In the Hunt was a huge surprise for me, never heard of it before this collection. Been enjoying 10 Yard Fight as well. 2. Batsugun: I have played other Toaplan games like Truxton and Grind Stormer but never heard of this one until I picked up Toaplan 3. 3. World Rally: Having a lot of fun with this one, honestly I could put the entire of Gaelco Arcade 1 here as they all have been a treat. Hopefully I can get Gaelco 2 in the future. 4. Cathedral: Grabbed it on an impulse but this cart has really surprised me, really well done Metroidvania, 5. Knuckle Bash: Nice surprise on Toaplan 4 never heard of it until this cart. 6. Future Wars: They did a good job making this game work on a controller and had a good time jumping in and out with it, did get the cart for Another World and Flashback. 7. Thunder Castle: A good game to jump in and out of for some quick adventure action from Intellivision Collection 1 8. Legend of Wukong: A very basic RPG on Piko Collection 3that has some minor issues with the maps but I just can't stop playing it. 9. Tanzer: An overall solid side scrolling game from Mega Cat 1 and easily the best on the cart. 10. Block Out: A surprise from Tachnos Arcade 1, always find myself coming back to this as it can be seen as 3-D Tetris looking down into the well.
@@Trialwolf many of those could have been on mine, well those that aren't already.
Good to see a Toaplan 1 cart game covered because I'm a wee bit tired of hearing about Toaplan 3&4 :-) Keep up the awesome work!
I'm into point and click games, but no french or french subtitles at least for 30€ means a no for me, which is painful because I really was wainting for pn'click games 😭
Good and balanced summary. Thanks for sharing. I was wondering what it was like from someone that previously played it.
Great thoughts! Thank you for making this... I will give it a go.🎉
It is impossible to separate the perception of quality from the perception of difficulty. At least with the dip switches set up as they are on Evercade, many of the Toaplan arcade games are horrendous: compare the Mega Drive (Genesis) version of Fire Shark to the Evercade Arcade ROM. The home version "is better". Pathetic but true.
Apparently the music only progresses beyond the opening track if you DON'T insert a coin and continue. Bizarre. I've been past level 100, only hearing one song!
I'm looking forward to playing this on Alpha.
it will be interesting playing it with the arcade stick.
Could you make a separate video explaining how to play the game with (this) level of skill? I've read the manual, and of course I have prior experience with Tetris and Puyo Puyo… but… I really cannot figure out the implicit rules of this game AT ALL.
I'll see what I can come up with, it's definitely a game that becomes much more fun when you start getting good at it.
Some of the squares that only appear in the later levels: I genuinely do not know what the point of them is, nor what to do with them.
@@Da4Ying3 the TNT?
And the gold, and the silver... there are a few others, too. But yeah: what is the deal w the TNT? @KeenRetroGames
@@Da4Ying3put five of them together and find out :D
Can’t wait !
These will be a lot of fun! Definitely an exciting announcement for me.
Thanks for the shout-out. This feels like the worms collection with only one type of game. I agree with you that I wish they had another game. The biggest issue that I have had people talk about is the price for a physical cart for only 2 games when right now GOG has the whole collection on sale for less. I am just looking forward to the SNK announcement next month.
Yeah that's a thing, but there is still the physical media/collecting aspect.
You can have two remastered games with different langages for 10€ 🫤
Well it was nice to confirm I still feel the same sense of profound panic whether I'm actively playing this game or just watching someone else play it. 😅
Hahahah, it is a real anxious game. But a great one!!
@ Yup I didn't like it until it came up in Cadeys, had to get good(ish) to enjoy it.
The various receptions to this announcement are wild. Especially outside Europe. Surprised lots haven't heard of them. I absolutely love the Broken Sword series.
It's quite amusing, but I get it, point n click games ain't for everyone.
Love this series. Can't wait.
The main negative I can think of with this collection is that the Broken Sword games are widely available on many consoles, handhelds, and PC. Right now you can get the 2010 remasters on GOG for about $16 CDN. These are great for Adventure game fans but due to these games being easily purchasable on so many store fronts (and many feeling these are point & click games and not the PS1 ports) this may get overlooked aside from collectors.
@@Trialwolf that's a fair point, it'll be interesting to see how this collection goes down.
Genejoke has a channel and a voice! 🎉🎉🎉
Awesome
I hope the lack of 16 bit games other than Twin Hawk means we'll get a collection of those in 2026 or so.
Yer one tuff perfesser! My ranking: 1 Avenging Spirit 10 2 Rod Land 9 3 Cybattler 9 4 Saint Dragon 8.5 5 64th Street: A Detective Story 8 6 P-47: The Phantom Fighter 8 7 Astyanax, The 7.5 8 E.D.F. Earth Defense Force 7.5 I love the depth and strategy of Avenging Spirit. Once you figure out the best characters to use it's one of the easier 1CCs on Evercade, but learning which characters to use is a big part of the fun! So much diversity of gameplay there. Cybattler really requires you to memorize the levels and use your sword a LOT. Shooting along isn't going to cut it. If you approach it as a shmup you will not have a good time. Nothing here is less than good. Really fun collection.
It's funny how people get up in arms for a measly $5.
Or two pounds sterling.
You can check out demos of Starseed and Block Droppin' on their itchio pages. They seem pretty solid. 👍
25 bucks for this 😤
Yeah, it's a pretty alright deal as far as my interests go. Obviously mileage may vary for others. Digital versions of the games I'm mainly interested in - Murtop ($4.99), Soko Banana ($8.99), and Flea!2 ($9.99) - already get you to $23.97. So I'm fine with $0.13/ea for the other 8 games. Definitely not as favorable as IHs 2&3 at the $20, but - again for me anyway - still worth it.
I played a level a day through the month of December like an advent calendar tho actually finnished it Christmas day lol thought it was a cool little game
*You're* the top ten games of 2024.
the top ten games of 2024 is the friends we made along the way.
Definitely feels like Blaze needed to get another arcade cart out before the end of the year and threw this together with what licensed games they had left. Not a bad cart but definitely the weakest Toaplan cart and hopefully the last one. Nice review and keep up the awesome work!
Indie Heroes 4 is looking like a poor cart, think I liked maybe 3/4 games and if the carts weren’t numbered I’d give it a miss
I figure there will be some neogeo pocket games too
I had fun completing this game on stream. It's definitely odd but not that bad.
Yeah, it's a pretty good game. Not particularly challenging, despite my pathetic efforts on some of the levels. I blame the flu.
@genejoke8538 🤣
I'd pretty much agree with your summary there. Solid year without any bad carts. I've loved Thalamus and Bitmap 2, Tomb Raider even though many haven't.
@@CrazyBurger yeah, I guess it helps having fairly broad tastes and the time to put the effort into less instant games.
This was a heck of a ride going in blind!
@KeenRetroGames "heck"? Whoa, calm down Nana...
Shaun was the last chimney 😢
This was a great year. I have loved every year, and it's hard to rank them, but I think this was my third favorite year after 2020 and 2023, and just behind 2023. Then again I haven't opened my surprise Alpha yet...
I ranked my top 25: 1 Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo 2 Ufouria: The Saga 3 Batsugun: Special Version 4 Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen 5 Cadaver: The Payoff 6 Anarchy 7 Alien Cat 2: Enhanced Edition 8 Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 9 Dogyuun 10 Snare 11 Save Mary! (2600) 12 Tomb Raider 13 Street Fighter Alpha 2 14 Cadaver 15 Big2Small 16 Berzerk (Arcade) 17 Hunter’s Moon Remastered 18 Snow Bros. 2: With New Elves 19 Knights of the Round 20 Out Zone 21 Trio the Punch - Never Forget Me… 22 Street Fighter Alpha 3 23 Donut Dodo 24 Knights of the Round 25 Edward Randy
I have almost no nostalgia for C64 or Amiga games, but I have loved all of them but Team 17.
@@KeenRetroGames yup, you just have to put the effort in with some of the games. To some degree I think data east arcade 2 falls into that category too.
Great video mate 👍
HAIL VECTRON!
Good luck! Yeah, a few of those games are manual-required, including Buzz Bombers.
I really like this game and is a great addition to Indie Heroes 4.
Absolutely agree 👍
