Good journrey through seceral repairs steps. Nice wodden construction to lift thr front area. I suppose I would have done it with pieces of safe screwd rectangle iron tubes instead of wood. Cheers
@@eberhardtils1705 thanks for the input! I come from a wood-working rather than metal-working background so I default to those tools. 😁 It is robust. All screwed together with additional metal strapping for strength and security. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment! Cheers!
My blood pressure was going up just watching that.
Glad you made it okay. Lessons learned
We are glad as well. It's been a sobering and educational event, but we are persevering and hope to be airborne again soon! Thanks for stopping by! Cheers!
Yesssss
Thanks for the detailed video about your annual, it helps an aspiring pilot understand what work is involved in owning and operating an amphibious LSA. Your videos have really compelled my thinking towards the Seamax, operationally, and I appreciate your commitment to sharing your enthusiasm for this craft. In my dreams I have adventures like y'all do; I'm inspired, yet also, this work is sobering. Rewards and dividends, I suppose! Looking forward to more informative (albeit relevant to this small corner of the youtoobs) videos. Thanks!
Thank you for sharing this, Mark. A real service to the community. Glad everyone is safe and that the damage to your tough little airplane was not too serious. Now following your channel & hope to see you in the air again soon.
Thank YOU for stopping by, watching, and spending some of your precious time with us! We're extremely happy that everyone is safe and that the damage was quite limited. We'll have some more videos up soon that show the work we've put in to bring her back up to new standards. It's coming along great but slower than anticipated due to my work schedule. We're more than grateful to be able to use this sad event to help other be safer and enjoy flying more. Cheers!
Hi from Tampa. I dream of owning this aircraft. Thank you for such a quality video and your responsible, professional commentary and tips.
Greetings! Sorry for the delayed reply! I've had my hands full with fixing up my wonderful bird between work trips. I'm glad you are enjoying the videos. We really want to help people experience the fun of seaplane flying and the work that goes into it. Cheers!
very cool. Can you make a video about your purchase seaMax experience? I am considering purchasing one from the manufacturer, and getting rated in this plane. thanks.
Wonderful documentation about an annuaö inspection. For me as a new flying enthusiast a very good first dive in the appearing recurring work
That sucks sir, at least no prop strike.
Agreed! 😃
Great video, nice memories created
Well on the bright side that looked like a pretty buttery smooth landing. At least you didn't stall just before touch down and smash the hull. Good luck with the repairs!
This like a sad commercial for erectile dysfunction.... GUMPS is a TIME honored mnemonic memory aid/check list to assure gear is down... Every plane I fly I treat like a retract. For amphibian planes landing with gear down in water is fatal. For gear DOWN LAND UP WATER... So pilots of these planes need to be extra careful.
I'm not sure what ED has to do with anything, but you are correct, and I did deploy the gear handle with safe indications, and checked those multiple times (I actually have a type specific flow and check procedure more detailed than GUMPS like I use at work), but as I showed, I didn't check out the window, so, there you go. Learn from this.. I have nearly 19,000 hours with more in retracts than not, with the preponderance of those types having no way to determine gear position other than panel indications. This is a human factors aspect that leads one to trust those indications. Trust but verify outside if you can! Don't think for a second it can't happen to you. Cheers!
@@theflipflopfliers Glad you are OK and damage is minimal. Thanks for posting. A reminder to always be vigilant. Can happen to anyone. Cheers PS the ED comment was a joke due to the production value and delivery... like a TV Ad selling some cure, pill, injection.

We met at sun n fun. I’m a former Marine airframer. I live near by in hallandale beach. Let me know if you need a hand getting her all fixed up. Talking to you guys back at the air show got me motivated to finally get my ppl, checkride is coming up soon!
@@3dprintmiami thanks for reaching out! We appreciate you! I may just take you up on that if you have experience with hand layups and painting! I have an extremely busy schedule the next few weeks but I'll be in touch! Cheers!
This is nothing new ,today! An older Airline Captain used to tell all of us the most unused instrument was the windshield! He never had a gear up landing! Bottom line you did not do the visual check. You're not the first and won't be the last! Sleep well tonight you are still here to sleep at night!
@@jhaedtler totally agree! Thanks for being engaged to make our community safer! Cheers!
I have a Lake Renegade. If it helps, it's always better to land gear up on a runway than gear down on a lake. As my dad (F-86 pilot in Korea) would say "Any landing you walk away from is a good landing." ...and... "If it's true that we learn from our mistakes-Than you, my son, should be a genius. Stand up, brush off the dust and move forward."
@@mathewm7136 thank you for the encouraging words! This just shows that there's always room for improvement and learning never stops! I've done this bideo because, as I discovered a long time ago, a smart man learns from his mistakes and a wise man learns from the mistakes of others. Our community benefits when we learn from each other. Cheers!
Glad your plane is ok and you are here to do better! I'm sure most pilots rely on those indicators. "Three down and indicating" is a standard phrase.
@@AKjohndoe we are happy with the outcome as we possibly could be. And in many aircraft these indications are the only thing you can rely on for gear deployment or retraction. The contributing factor from me was the failure to visually confirm what the panel was saying on this particular flight. We can all learn the lesson to verify visually every time if this is possible in your particular make and model of aircraft. Thanks for contributing! Cheers!
The main takeaway is you walked away un harmed, aircraft can be replaced, runaways can be repaired. Your life isn't that sturdy, unfortunately, textbook belly landing, sir, fair winds, and smooth skies.
@@jamesnoonan7450 truth and agreement in all your points sir! Thanks for the well wishes! Cheers!
Ouch! Strange design. Does the flight manual call out a visual check as a requirement?
@@denekaraus8592 it doesn't explicitly. Regardless, I failed to visually confirm and relied solely on the safe panel indication and my gear handle position. You can't hear the gear motor either, and there's really no appreciable aerodynamic or handling change when the gear comes out...or doesn't. It's still on me.
@@theflipflopfliers This event puts into question the airworthiness certification of the aircraft - such a malfunction should be impossible by design. It's on the manufacturer and the FAA....
@@denekaraus8592 well light sport aircraft are certified under an ASTM standard rather than FAR 23. The system is simple but has a fail mode that can trip one up. I am looking at a mod to prevent this by separating the gear indications from the jackscrew limit action of the single contact switch. Plus, my procedures have changed! Overall I'm delighted with this airplane.
Thanks Mark, a very important video indeed. What a great pilot you are having the humility and heart to educate us all so we can learn from this mishap. Glad you are ok and fingers crossed you have the Seamax up in the air in no time!
@@MattiasNielsen-e8d thank you for your kind words. I really appreciate it! We're working hard on procuring everything we need to get her back in tip top condition. Stay tuned! 😁
So sorry to hear about this, Mark. Thank you for sharing, though, so that we all can learn from this incident. Way to go, changing lemons into lemonade! Thankfully, Seamax is a high pusher and you did not also sustain a prop strike! Also thankfully the Seamax has a solidly built hull bottom to endure these kinds of things with relative grace. I wish I had one. I do appreciate you many videos. Thank you, again, for sharing. Gods-speed on returning to the skies!
@@lalehbryanskrenes5692 thank you for your kind words as well! We super appreciate you all! She's a tough bird and we're going to bring her back in fine form! I'm just hopeful that other aviators can learn from this event. If I help just one person avoid what happened to me then I will have zero regrets! Stay tuned for more! Cheers!
Tq uncle The information is very understandable🫡Water pump engine can be made to fly,,,just want to ask,,😁
Thanks for stopping by and watching, and thanks for reaching out! We do appreciate it! This is my first Rotax experience but I have to admit for its size and weight, it has a lot of power and so far has been extremely reliable and easy to maintain. Cheers!
Fantastic video, especially like the camera work on seeing inside the plane. Looks like a lot work to access the battery. Do you have to take apart the back panel to gain access to the battery? Great job on the videos keep them coming!!
Thanks for taking the time to watch! We really appreciate it! The battery is in the cockpit area on the floor behind the passenger seat and is readily accessible without tools or disassembly of anything.
SeaMax owner here. Great to see such responsible flying and useful info.
Nice video, I also seen you in the water flying magazine.
Awesome!

I'm freaking dying laughing! 😂😂😂
Almost as good as owning your own airplane....except lots cheaper!
We love our little bird! Hope all is well brother!
Super cool! How long did it take to fly up there?
We put 2.3 on the Hibbs to get there. Took us a bit longer to get back with a headwind, fuel stop, and brief diversion to Pompano to wait out a TS over North Perry. We had a blast though!
An adventure on top of the adventure! 😜 Double the awesome! Nice!
what an awesome video!!!
So glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome!!
Thanks Mark 🎉
Our pleasure! 🤙❤️
Do you need to order anything from Seamax for those maintenances or are they only using widely available parts ? As usual, thanks for this great content !
Great question! We have had to order some things from Seamax in the past, mainly because I hadn't dialed in the preventative maintenance needed and frankly had let some hardware deteriorate. The company has been very responsive, though I haven't needed any Seamax specific parts in well over a year. All the items like the fasteners, bushings, and brake components are all easily procured locally. The bushings are just aluminum tubing, so it does need cutting, drilling, and some chamfering to produce from tube stock, but the skill set necessary for that is in the very easy side of ability. All the Rotax specific items are readily available in the States. Cheers!
Clear Skies 🎉 🌟🏔️💫
