You are supposed to let them peel it off! It would help if the gecko had a humid hide, if you don’t have one you can use a small Tupperware container and put wet paper towels on the floor of it!

You shouldn’t really peel off shed skin like that. The skin underneath could be not fully done. The best way to help is to place them in a more humid area like you did and let them shed for themselves. Of course, if there is stuck shed, you can consider helping by using a wet Q tip or giving them a bath
