The aesthetics were equal parts soothing and chilling to just sit back and experience. I sat back until you put on that track with I think Mikanzil singing the vocals? There was no sitting back after that. Pallet was a very important song to me once upon a time, back in 2019 or so. At the chorus I'd have these visions of what I can only describe as as the inside of a disco ball in the whole gamut of dark, saturated color, accompanied by gameplay from some long-lost game from my early childhood I could not find for a long time (I later found it was KuriKuri Mix, or Adventures of Cookie and Cream in the USA). Back then, these visions brought me to my knees; they represented the softness of childhood nostalgia that shines through all of the painful memories. This feeling is the diamond in the rough of those painful formative years that made me who I am. I was content to listen to the guitar, but hearing Mikanzil's voice again shook me awake. With my senses piqued and my nerves electrified, I found the video to be strong and evocative with its aesthetics. I've been in an increasingly-numb depressive episode for the past couple weeks, but the impact of this memory made me feel alive. Much of this video was excellently-done in terms of a broad narrative. It's obvious to me what you're going for, and I really felt it, at least in abstract. The animations, the symbolism, the framing of stuff like visiting the tree-it was really well-done and evocative. The parts you manually animated were electrifying. For critique, I will say that while the editing and animation were excellent and evocative, the underlying gameplay narrative often felt empty to my meaning-starved mind for a stretch of time (a sin I have committed often just to get a video out). For example, during the first fight of the Genesis movement, the visuals evoked this feeling of Zen; of equal, neutral knowledge, observation, and acceptance of all your surroundings; of The World. However, in the gameplay framing, there was this nagging neglect for the other player. Listen: I'm extremely biased; the best moments from my videos have been those which showed the drama or comedy of the entire scenario, rather than just my own perspective. Maybe it's not fair for me to make this critique, but yet, the underlying message screamed to me, begging to be expressed. The narrative, as well as the framing of the camera, felt too self-centered in that moment, considering the aesthetics being conveyed. After all, what composes the nature of one's Genesis if not the surroundings which shape us? The opponent was taken for granted, but it is their vividly-lived experiences that inform their actions, and their actions which help shape you in that small, passing moment within your video. At least as metaphor, I would have wanted to focus in on that oneness of all, and all-ness of one. I give long comments on all the videos that move me because I want to express to everyone how I was moved by that other person. What informs this feeling of movement is my acute sensitivity to people, to the beauty in their harmful and healing actions, and to the unique color and voice expressed through action and creation. For The World to be represented, we must be impartial, and appreciate the importance of all the details that, through observation and memory, become The Self. The camera will always have a bias on your character, but in intently cropping the framing, you assert to the viewer that in fact, the opponent is deserving of your attention-an assertion which I believe nudges the viewer to accept more (if not all) of the scene as worth observation, at least more than before. I know you hunger to make your next work better and gain more experience. So, I hope my perspective helps you know what I find beautiful in the gameplay, at least-assuming my perspective is at all important to what you want to make for your viewers. I am just a film and art nerd, after all, but so are you. Your video was excellently-made, and I know you have so much to express, granted you know how to use the tools of cinema to make it happen. If my comment discourages you rather than building you up, well, I'm very sorry. If however you feel confident and ready for your next work after considering my words, well, I feel you definitely should be, because the internalized truths of these lessons are what shorten one's 5-month work period to a timeframe much shorter, to create art a bit rougher, and much more RAW and MEANINGFUL. I want you to make us feel your soul once again. Thank you for this beautiful work.
