Evolution of Disability Journey Interview with Dr Kruti Shah, Pharmacist
Please needed to know this perspective … I used up all assessments Nbme/uwsa /free 120 on my previous attempt.. and those qus answer pretty much memorised phase, like i know the answer when i will look into it or biased .. so for next attempt how would i assess myself or get to know that i am ready?
I did the same thing by taking all the practice exams multiple times. Interestingly enough even though you think you would “memorize” or remember the answers you don’t because there is hundreds of questions. If you truly remembered there would be a significant increase in scores each time you retake it. I talk about this in the video and blog post
@@medpsycmoss thank you ..

Congratulations on your first day! You're now officially licensed to ask - how are you doing? Wishing you a great start and beyond :)
Yes temporarily licensed since I haven’t taken Step3 yet! Thank you!
Thank you so much for making this video. This step cycle has been absolute torture for me (I actually just uploaded a video about it), and I love hearing this honesty from other people in our profession. Best of luck in your Psychiatry residency. You're gonna be an awesome doctor.

So, basically, you are setting yourself up for owing both loans as a cosigner on both of the loans. What happens if your partner quits paying their loan or leaves the residence and quits paying their loan to be with someone else? DO YOUR DUE DILIGENCE AND READ THE FINE PRINT AND CONSULT AN ATTORNEY BEFORE YOU SIGN THIS FOOLISHNESS!
We are discussing federal student loans which act very differently than private loans. This is a good thought, but in regard to federal loans this is not accurate. There is no co-signer on federal student loans and the partner is not responsible if the other stops paying. The fine print you are referring to is the master promissory note, and yes one should always read it closely.
Awesome! This’ super relatable. Was diagnosed with Stage 4 Endo in Internship year. Striving for an OBGYN residency. Much needed podcast!
Thank you for your support! I relate to your experience as I was also diagnosed with endo during medical school. Would love to interview you and share your story! Message me at medpsycmoss@gmail.com
Is there any way you can reatain the passive knowledge tht you can gain frm just watching videos like bnb nd pathoma??
Yes you will always gain some information visually and auditory but I am suggesting that it’s not enough for being able to understand and correctly answer questions on STEP one and two
@@medpsycmoss so how to retain information from videos ?? Is their any way to retain text information.
Did you use bnb and pathoma books or videos?? Also tell us how to make flash cards on Uworld aap?
Yes I did but always as a secondary resource if UW did not provide me enough content knowledge from the question. Here is the blog post on all the resources and study suggestions that this video is based on: medpsycmoss.com/blog/how-to-not-fail-step
I just love the way you explain every thing so honestly.
You are very kind, thank you! I am glad it helped you!
How often did you do flashcards the second time round? I noticed i forgot details from questions when i try to get thru volume versus being slowed to review cards, havent been able to find the fine line between priortizing questions versus review them
I hear what you are saying that it is hard to prioritize but my strongest opinion is you are tested using questions not simply quick facts. medpsycmoss.com/blog/how-to-not-fail-step
@@medpsycmoss Is there somewhere you discussed how you handled financial hardship before the third attempt (ie those without a spouse and who have to take a LOA but also have to pay rent while studying for step) since you mentioned you worked before the second attempt?
@fabiovelnaz-zp7yl Yes wonderful question! Myself, and a lot of the other medical students who took LOAs significantly struggled financially. Here is the UA-cam playlist talking about this and I’ll also link to a couple blog posts. Finances in Medicine ua-cam.com/play/PLUfheMZYKjA-WJoUmm8Fpt5wxkiu2HERi.html

Thank you for having me! 🤍
Thank you for sharing your journey, Vicks! I resonated with you so much as you said as another Black medical student who has ADHD and has experienced challenges on my journey. Wishing you the best in the future :) I've fallen, but I'll keep skipping.
what do you recommend using to study for Step 2? Is UWorld sufficient? That's all I used for Step 1 (plus FA) so I'm thinking to do the same, i.e. use UWorld Step 2 Qbank only (not using FA step 2). I don't like being resource-overloaded. TIA!
Yes UW is pretty sufficient for Step2! I also used Online MedED during clerkships but that is personal preference! Good luck!
Thanks for making this video and being honest !! The medical space can be very toxic and I wish more people were honest like you . I did step 1 , 3 times and got my result 2 weeks ago and praise God I passed !!! I know of 3 Drs who failed step 1 and still matched ! There is a shortage of Drs. And if you work hard and pray and believe you will pass and match !!! Once again thanks for the honestly you don’t know how much this is helping people !
Thank you for your kind words and CONGRATULATIONS on accomplishing that feat!!
I just released my Medical School Hidden Curriculum WORKBOOK which includes how to overcome Step failure: medpsycmoss.com/store/p_3287163/medical-school-hidden-curriculum-workbook
I took 5 months to study and pass step 1. My first NBME was a 56% and passing was around 63%. My second NBME was even worse. I was so down. But then I found HyGURU, and it helped me tremendously. Step 1 can be a dark period for many people, like you said. You need to have a strong community around you, drink water, eat healthy, have some free time.
Thank you for sharing your Step journey. It is so important to hear the variety of paths to study for this exam. I never used his videos but have heard great things!
Thank you for making this video. More doctors need to be open and honest like you.
You’re welcome, my goal through being vulnerable and sharing my struggles is to let people know they are not alone!
Hi ... proud of you lady
Thank you!
Did you talk about vitamin d levels?
No I did not, the prenatal vitamins usually have vitamin D. Per this 2023 meta analysis: “The improvement of clinical pregnancy rate in the intervention group was influenced by the vitamin D level of patients, drug type, the total vitamin D dosage, the duration, administration frequency, and daily dosage of vitamin D supplementation. The infertile women (vitamin D level < 30 ng/mL) treated with the multicomponent drugs including vitamin D (10,000-50,000 IU or 50,000-500,000 IU), or got vitamin D 1000-10,000 IU daily, lasting for 30-60 days could achieve better pregnancy outcome.” www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9896710/
Correct me if I'm wrong but prenatal vitamins usually have less than 1000 IU of vitamin d. That is unlikely to get vitamin d levels into the healthier range above 60ng/mL. Ten times that dose may raise the level enough. Are blood levels tested? This could be all that's necessary to lessen or eliminate the endometriosis problem.
Yay Kimether! Warrioress sister. She has helped me in many ways . Love Shanda
She is a phenomenal advocate!
Dr. Moss are there fundamental differences in a requirement for accommodations for disabilities vs accommodations for cultural beliefs from a medical standpoint?
Yes they are different because the people who evaluate whether someone will receive accommodations for an exam are not regulated. Vs the governmental agencies that provide ADA benefits are regulated.
I’ve experienced soooo much medical gaslighting also the past 2 years since my endometriosis has taken a turn for the worst! I’ve learned to stand up for myself but this definitely needs to stop!! ❤❤❤ Thankyou for sharing girl and bringing this to attention endo-sister ❤
I am sorry to hear how you have similarly struggled and been gaslit. It is so important to learn how to advocate for yourself and your needs!
Dr. Moss-is there a difference between a psychiatrist with an undergraduate MBBS degree and a psychiatrist with a postgraduate MD degree? I assume that the MBBS has a stronger focus on clinical practice, while the MD places greater emphasis on research. 🥼🩺⚕ (By the way, congratulations on your new residency!)
Hello I am in the US and we don’t have that degree. It looks like that is only in the UK so I recommend asking a UK physician who can provide the most accurate response.
@@medpsycmoss OK, thank you.
Hi , im proud of you !!!!
Thanks! 😊
My state has paid medical leave, pays about 2/3 of your income. We also have maternity leave here, and paternity leave. Not sure what maternity/paternity pays.
Dr. Marshall is not saying you are not disabled, but that FMLA should be paid like short term disability which is paid leave.
Aight, but when you find yourself struggling to go up some stairs while you're pregnant, I want you to remember your words, you've essentially stated you are in no way disabled, but a normal person could go up those stairs no prob.
i was thinking the same thing. i’ve never been pregnant before but if i was, i would love to be able to sit in the disability chairs on public transportation, or park in disabled parking bc in the literal sense, compared to your unpregnant-self, u are disabled from doing tasks the way u use to
Just got my results the 3rd time and didn’t make it 😭😭
Oh no!! I am so sorry to hear of your struggle! Remember to not give up hope ❤
I hope this helps ua-cam.com/video/UtWlgnK6vso/v-deo.htmlsi=bKoC5ZZMi0u8rPGr
