Lucas Haneman demonstrates his signature Mayfly guitar pedal: The Le Habanero. Lucas makes good use of both the Boost and the Fuzz features of the pedal and also gives a master class in using a looper at the same time. Note how both sides clean up very well when Lucas turns down the guitar. The signal chain is: Lucas, Strat-style guitar, Mayfly Le Habanero, looper pedal, Princeton Reverb, SM57,...

Mayfly Sunrise guitar amplifier simulator
Переглядів 4154 місяці тому
The Mayfly Sunrise is a guitar amp simulator designed to replicate classic Blackface Reverb amps from the 1960's. In this video I talk about the features of the Sunrise, but we also hear an excellent recording by Lucas Haneman that uses the Sunrise for all guitar and bass guitar parts. The Sunrise is on sale now on Reverb and at your favourite Mayfly dealers.

The VoxBox is my latest Mayfly pedal design. It is a microphone effects loop, controllable with footswitches. This allows you to add effects to your microphone and control them live. Suitable for vocalists, horn players, percussionists and anyone else who uses a mic live with their instrument. All of the audio that you hear in the video is recorded through the VoxBox with a U87 condenser microp...

Thanks so much for mentioning “Le Habanero” guys! Fun interview, and great to learn more about this awesome store. Sam makes a very interesting and well spoken interview subject, and it’s nice to hear about all the things cicada is doing in the synthesizer world as well!!
Good video
Delays and reverbs would probably work best with the VoxBox if they were set to 100% wet, I'm assuming?
Actually, it works well even if the effects are not 100% wet. I typically set the delay or reverb to less than 50% on the effect and 50% on the voxbox
This is a great solution for FX saxophonists, great! The only thing better than this would be to also have another foot switch to choose between 100% wet mix and the set % chosen via the mix knob, if you add this it would literally set this pedal at the top of his category forever
Thanks for the idea - I'll definitely kick it around with my beta testers
Maybe you could make the screw holes for the template match the ones you'll need for the bender itself. Eliminate a step.
At 14:45......Oh sue us! If it wasn't for California you'd be using 8mm film and selling reels of it by mail from an ad on the back of a comic book. We also invented........the B-Bender. You do nice work though.
Amazing looking forward to this .
Us as well! Stay tuned for details
Are you still working on pedals? I just acquired one of these and it could use some tlc.
Hi there, I'm actually full time on pedals with my company Mayfly Audio. Regarding your rockman, it's probably best if you found someone local to your area to look at it. Anything that's fixable is pretty straightforward, and the things that are not fixable (replacing the unobtainable delay chips) no one can fix anyway :)
Thanks Trevor!
Cool video!
I have a evh 5150 III 50w El34 and it does the same thing I turn it on I can play for a few secs and a really high pitch squeal. I am 90% sure though the volume on the amp does not effect it what so ever soon as the stand by switch comes on it will squeal after like 5-10 secs. I've not changed any pre amp tubes or anything yet
This is nice. Does this use the FV-1?
Nope. I actually don't like how that chip sounds, so I used a different IC.
@@mayflyamp I hear ya there, mostly agree. Keeley uses it a lot, the Aurora Reverb pedal might be the best to be had from it and it is quite nice for what it is. Seems a lot of mostly analog pedals are wedging a DSP solution for reverb into their designs. I am happily amazed by it.
Great job debunking the shenanigans.
This looks great, sounds great, too! How much of the design is analog and DSP?
Hi Brad, only the reverb is DSP. Everything else is analog, including the preamp amp sim, power amp sim, and the speaker sim.
@@mayflyamp Cool!
You should change the name of your channel to Ampbutcher. You replaced every component and the amp still hums? Nicely done. Ps you cant "test" an amp's sound when it's still plugged into a current limiter because it throws off all the voltages and tube bias, which is why it sounded terrible in your demo.
Worse than bad/tired... that tube is stone dead.
Probably cool for people who have not taken the digital plunge.
I have lost my screws What type of screws are used for the case?
Hi there, I did this repair years ago so this is completely from (fuzzy) memory. Seems to me that they were #6 pan-head 1 inch wood screws. YMMV.
@@mayflyamp Thank you. I found my Rockman after years of being stored in the attic. I had the screws out because I was repairing it
That's crazy that is was just proximity of OT wires. Dr. Z is not a high-gain amp that I'm aware of and....STILL squealed!! Wow! Now we know and can happen even to low-gain amplifiers.
My X100 won't do anything, years ago used the crap out if it as a preamp. How much to fix?
Hi there, Sadly I don't have time for this type of repair these days. To busy with my pedal company. I recommend that you find someone local to you to have a look at it.
promo sm ❤️
So, if my Rockman soloist ever breaks down from wear, can you be the man to help me out? 🥳
Hi there! I sure could, but it's probably better to find a repair person local to you. I'm getting pretty busy these days with my pedal company.
@@mayflyamp oh I understand, the problem is I just wouldn’t know where to look 😅
Excellent video! I have a Tele with this mechanism,i t had been sitting on the case for years, and now when wearing the strap the weight of the guitar makes the b string bend - need to adjust the spring. Any tips on what should be done? A video would be great!!
Thanks! Regarding the spring, adjusting it depends on which type you have. On a Parsons-White bender, the spring is attached to the body with a screw. To tighten it you take the spring off the screw and re-locate the screw further to the back of the guitar. Then re-install the spring. Don't forget to drill a pilot hole for the screw. I find that moving the screw 1/2" is plenty. On a Parsons-Green bender, the spring is attached to a little hook that's bolted to the underside of the bender mechanism plate. To tighten it, you take off the plate (don't forget to remove the b-string), remove the spring, then carefully bend that little hook in to the back of the guitar. With this method you'd probably only get 1/4", but that still may work. Watch out! In both mechanisms, that spring is REALLY STIFF. Be careful when removing and installing it. Wear something over your eyes to prevent that spring from whipping around and daging you in the face when it slips of of your pliers when you're trying to re-install it. Don't ask me how I know...
I really can’t believe no one has started with comments, what’s up with that !!!! Okay the KTR wins buy a country mile as much as l wanted the Centura to win and now the Klon KTR pedals are starting to fetch crazy money 😢😢😢stop it , and what’s your thoughts after 2 years which one have you kept or use regularly…..
Hi there, Well the KTR was a repair, so it's back to it's owner (who sold it shortly afterwards). I sold the Centura as well, but before I did the experience inspired me to design my first overdrive pedal: the Mayfly Open Window. It's my new go-to. The guy who owned the KTR now uses one as well. So the truth is I ditched them and made something better.
Thanks for the interesting video. What capsules are used in these mics?
Hi there. I'm sorry but I have no idea. The mics have long gone back to their owner so there is no way for me to check.
@@mayflyamp Okay. Thank you!
Beautiful work guys! Very interesting to learn about the process.
Thanks for having me on the channel!

is there any way to let the delay or reverb carry on running after you've released the momentary switch so the reverb tail doesn't suddenly cut off?
I was wondering the same thing. Also having an expression pedal input would really open up more control and possibilities
Hi guys, the way the pedal is designed, no you can't. However, if your reverb pedal has a tails feature, you could disengage the reverb pedal itself instead to let the tails go on. I figured this was the more flexible option.
Freakin' brilliant! All I can think about now is how my voice would sound with my current pedalboard. 🎸
Thanks man!
This is a great fuzz pedal. I bought one over a year ago after I watched this video. I'm surprised that it hasn't received much more attention and acclaim. I have several fuzz pedals and this is currently one of my top three favorites along with the silktone fuzz and the kingtone minifuzz v.2. What type of transistors do you use to make the Demon Girl? I'm assuming they are germanium due to it's ability to clean up when rolling back the guitar volume knob but there's an aggressiveness to it I've never heard before in a germanium fuzz pedal.
Thanks Anthony! The transistors are NPN silicon! The secret to making it sound good is in the circuit design itself. BTW, if you wanted to play with the tone a bit, there is a bias trimpot inside the pedal. Please note where it's set before you tweak it though...
Great Video so far! I am 5:15 into it, and I can't help but hear a horn of some type. I will guess that it's a TROMBONE. Do you have a kid that was practicing somewhere in your house? The way it sounds, maybe they are new and just started. Does anyone else hear that also? Or am I losing my mind? Haha
What is the source and part number for the switch
Hi there, I can't remember the part number off hand, but I give it in the video. As to where it came from, my buddy Bill (a professional electronics buyer) found it. He's not telling where!
@mayflyamp lol. He must be selling them or repairing using them. My background is electronics and know I will find them somewhere
Sounds really nice, I've been looking around for some pedals that allow me to make a sort of lofi-effect, something like the HIFI warped vinyl or just something to make super chill with. I just discovered your pedals, have you ever thought about making a pedal like this? If I see this pedal I'll probably pick it up, but I was just wondering so I figured I might as well ask.
Hi there, thanks for your comment. Turns out that there already is a Mayfly pedal that does what you're looking for - the Mayfly Sketchy Zebra. You just run it in Vibrato mode and it does a perfect warped record effect. Sounds great in phaser mode as well :) here's a link: mayflyaudio.com/SketchyZebra/
Sweet! I think they have one at spaceman so I'll take a trip in there and pick it up when I can. I always wanna find ways to support local artists!@@mayflyamp
@@SassyTesla Thanks! BTW, I don't think that Spaceman has one anymore - phone them to make sure. Fairly sure that the other mayfly dealers have one including Steves, Lauzon, and Cicada.
I had a few Crimson Guitars, from 15 years ago, when Ben Crowe still worked from his old shed. Those guitars are completely unplayable. Binding cracked, necks in a permanent backbow, fretboards cracked, tuners installed horribly. Just so sad that it never were the guitars I wanted them to be. This is just another design that just doesn't work. Not really anyway?
Hi Orpheo! Good to hear from you. The one problem with the glue joint aside, I'm happy to say that this guitar's neck is straight, it's well put together, and it plays well.
@@mayflyampThat was, fortunately, the only problem here, but it could/should have been prevented by installing the 'wings' in a groove instead of that butt-joint. The Crimsons I had had beautiful woods but the craftsmanship just wasn't there. Think, splitting tops because they weren't glued properly, tearout in the wood solved with sawdust and superglue, etc.
Nice job fixing a very unusual and interesting guitar!
Where do u fine a ROUTE TEMPLATE for the bender system
Hi there, I made my own. Hipshot does sell a template for this kit, but you might not like the price.
Thanks for the video! I still have mine, but it's needs some major overhaul. I bought it from a friend back in the late 80's, the audio comes out only on one side of the headset on both Headphone inputs. The power adapter is also in bad shape and shorts out. There's absolutely nothing on the internet for an aftermarket replacement adapter which is a 6Volt 200ma. I wish I could find someone who knows how to restore this thing. I was smart enough to buy all the Rackmount Modules and they're still in great shape, so I can always bust them out if I need to for recordings. Any suggestions on what I should do with the Rockman?
Well, depends on where you are and if there are some good electronics tecs nearby. You'll need someone who is part electrical engineer and part watchmaker with these things. The power supply should be easy to fix. The problem with one channel missing would be much harder to debug. However, my money is on a bad electrolytic coupling cap in the signal path somewhere.
Great video, subscribed!
That reverb on your mic is a little much, sounds like you are in a cave.
Audio guy isn't using a dedicated mic!
Trevor - does this thing work well with a bass guitar? Xmas is coming, and this is looking perfect! Only I know nothing about guitars or basses!
Hi Tim, I think it works great with bass. But - for you to really know, you need to go to one of my dealers and ask one of the staff to try it out. If you let them know it's for a gift and you don't play the instrument, I'm sure they will accommodate you and play bass through it.
Like the DVM too- only thing - might be hard to discern center positive vs center negative With as expensive as some of the effects are getting knowing what voltage you actually have might save some grief
great video. I love the inline DVM
As we say down South, “dead cajones!” The only question I have is why you don’t use the bender mechanism screw holes to secure your router template? But, hey, I’m not the one who just did an amazing job installing!
Thank you! When I made the template I didn't think to put the bender screw holes on the template. The template holes all end up covered anyway so I didn't think too much about it.
Question: when you order one of these bender kits, do they come with a routing template for the back channel or is that a template you made? Thanks
Hi, er, user-km3hj7ge8m, (am I talking to a bot here?), the kit does not come with a template. It does come with a full sized drawing to make your own. I made mine over 10 years ago. I believe that hipshot sells a lexan template, but it's not cheap.
@@mayflyamp No I'm not a bot... I'm just more creative with my username than you are, but thank you for the info about the template, or lack there of...😶
Does this add to the over all weight of the guitar.?
short answer is no. enough material is removed to compensate for the extra weight of the mechanism.
What are the approx. dimensions of the circuit boards?
Where can I get that critical plexi template?
I made my own, but recently I found that hipshot offers a template. It's not cheap though. hipshotproducts.com/collections/guitar-string-bending/products/parsons-green-routing-template
