Afghan Seam Scarf Pattern
This is a pattern for Lesson 3 in the GK 370 beginner series. It is not limited to the GK 370, but can be made on any midgauge or bulky machine. It is very easy to knit and finish. The afghan seam is faster to complete than mattress stitch for most people and it provides a bit of decorative trim to a plain stockinet scarf.
A PDF for the pattern can be downloaded here:

I hope you enjoy making this scarf.

Lesson 3 for the GK370 Midgauge Knitting Machine
Переглядів 11819 годин тому
This is Lesson 3 in the GK 370 beginner series. In it we learn to e-wrap cast on over waste yarn and ravel cord, use waste yarn as a stitch holder, join vertical edges with the afghan stitch seam, and make mock cables. Knitted and crocheted blankets and throws are also known as afghans in the US. I do not know how they got that name, but it has been a common term for at least 70 years. This sea...

This is Lesson 2 for the GK 370 midgauge knitting machine. In this lesson we will learn how to cast on with waste yarn and ravel cord, use the transfer tool to make a folded hem and decrease the top of a hat, remove the stitches onto a threaded yarn needle, and sew the hat seam. In the pattern video for this lesson we will knit stripes, changing colors to knit them, and a trick for getting them...

This is a great beginner hat pattern. It is simple enough for a first project when learning to use your GK 370 knitting machine and can be made on other models, as well. The pattern is designed specifically to support Lesson 1 in the GK 370 knitting machine beginner series and provides a practical exercise in learning how to thread the machine, cast on, knit stockinet, backstitch bind off, and ...
Lesson One For GK 370 Knitting Machine
Переглядів 30414 днів тому
This is the first lesson in a series for the GK 370 knitting machine. It operates similarly to the LK 150, but there are a few differences. If you have an LK 300 CeCe, these lessons will also apply to this machine. The only difference between the GK 370 and the LK 300 CeCe is that the CeCe has an additional 50-needle section in the bed. The carriages are the same, even though colors and brandin...

Setting Up the GK 370 Knitting Machine

Recently a new midgauge machine, the GK 370, has become available in several online marketplaces. Unfortunately, all documentation and instruction is in Japanese. Grafting on the Machine With Knit Sides Together
Переглядів 9093 роки тому
This is actually my favorite method of closing sock toes on the knitting machine, especially the ones that have toes shaped with transfer tool decreases, and only a small number of stitches at the tip. Most people find this technique easier to master than the one worked with purl sides together, and it can be used nearly every time knitted pieces need to be grafted. It does not work for the Rom...
Grafting on the Machine With Purl Sides together

This video covers grafting on a knitting machine, with the purl sides of the fabric facing each other. This technique is a little more challenging to master than the one worked with knit sides together, but there are a few times it is the only possible way to graft two pieces of knitting. Practice on small pieces, like the 10-stitch wide ones shown in the video. If a midgauge or bulky machine i...

Double Thick Slippers part 1

Popularly called Romeos, because they resemble the old mens’ Romeo slippers. This is a very old pattern. It was originally part of my book, Knitting for Bazaars and Gifts, published in 1988, and was made using every other needle on a standard gauge knitting machine. Knitting worsted weight yarn was a little thinner back then, averaging 20 sts, 28 rows per 4”/10 cm, or 5 sts, 7 rows per inch. Th...

To see instructions on joining and binding off the buttonhole band, please watch Part 3, ua-cam.com/video/-LFmuUEM_ek/v-deo.html I can definitely see uses for both versions of this buttonhole band. When knitting with a stable, stiffer yarn, possibly one with a good amount of cotton in it, I would try this on a placket for a ladies' or girls' top. I am very much interested in relearning every thing I have forgotten and am very grateful for finding you. I am a very slow hand knitter so really need to go back to machine knitting if I ever want to finish a project in a timely manner. Thank you for helping all these beginners.

    • @irenewoods8480
      @irenewoods8480 15 днів тому

      I was a little surprised when I got my LK 300 CeCe. The bed is exactly the same as the LK 150, but the carriage is like a blend of the LK 100 and LK 150. I can use all of the LK 150 carriages and parts on it, except for the yarn mast. There is a cut-out in the bed where the little square piece that holds the yarn mast connects. If you are able to find that piece, you could even add the LK 150 mast and upper tension if you wanted to. Of course, the yarn mast is not necessary in order to use the intarsia carriage and that's a great addition.

    • @dharmafey
      @dharmafey 15 днів тому

      @irenewoods8480 I have also just acquired a Singer 700. I'm knitting a manual tuck stitch top on the LK300; they are placed on the two sides of a work bench. I turned the mast around on the 700, and it's working terrifically to feed yarn down to the LK300 carriage, more like the function of the LK150 mast. I'm trying to be "disciplined" to not over-buy accessories. (Somehow an entire 700 machine was a better idea than the parts for an LK150 mast? 😂)

      @@irenewoods8480 For years, I've been wishing we had an ideal entry-level, affordable machine. The best option is the LK-150, but the GK370 at about $100 cheaper, would be wonderful. However, for entry-level MKers to be comfortable, the labels and book need to be in English.

    The reason you are having trouble with your needle selector, is because your brake sponge needs replacing, I can tell by the slackness of your needles, because the sponge is worn, the needle butts are lifting, causing it to jam the selector and the main carriage a little bit.

Since the FC-6 is no longer available, and extremely hard to find used, I did not include instructions for using it in this series. I might show a demo of it in the future, but for now, the purpose of this series is just to show various ways Fairisle/color work can be done with the main carriage, on both the LK 150 and KX 350 machines. You really are not limited to the method shown in the machine manual.
