Myth and Religion Pt 3
Ancient myths and religious themes have been the most common subject in art for much of its history. Yet, these myths are not taken to be historically true now nor when much of the art depicting them was created. Religion, which forms communities and rituals around these myths, is also in decline, at least in the Western world. So what value, if any, do myth and religion hold for us today?
In this new series, we will examine many art works depicting the most popular myths of the ancient world and attempt to find their relevance for our lives. We will also closely examine religious art in order to understand its meaning and to see if it still has the power to move us and inspire us to a more expansive way of living.
This particular presentation will focus on the martyrs of science, philosophy, and faith so often depicted in paintings. These heroic figures died for a cause they believed greater than themselves. But do martyrs still inspire us, or do we feel a stronger impulse toward the preservation of life. What can we learn about our world and ourselves by examining the art of martyrs? I hope you will join our community this Sunday for this fascinating look at the art of Myth and Religion.

“I am a warrior, so that my son can be a merchant, and his son can be a poet.” - John Quincy Adams A recent survey I conducted of some of the most powerful and wealthiest families in Western history seems to support the above quote by Adams. Art And Country - Russian Avant Garde
Переглядів 1485 місяців тому
When we think of Russian art, we may first think of religious iconography so influenced by the Byzantine style. Because most of us are familiar with this kind of art, I would like to introduce a style unique to Russia - the early 20th Century avant garde styles of cubo-futurism, rayonism, suprematism and constructivism. These art movements were both counter-revolutionary and pro-Bolshevik Revol...
Art and Country ~ Japan, The Edo Period
Переглядів 935 місяців тому
As we continue our series, Art and Country, we will explore the art of Japan. This Sunday, we will examine the art of the Edo Period (1603 - 1868). Confucianism became a dominant philosophical school during this time. We will look at the rinpa school of art and the Ukiyo-e woodblock prints of Hokusai and Hiroshige. In the far east, artists have long been considered much more than creators. They...

Jot down your ideas before you give voice to them - And having jotted-down a few points, run your eye over what you have jotted and edit it. Then put your notes aside for a couple of days and look at your notes again. Ask yourself whether a stranger reading those notes would find anything useful in them? Ask yourself whether you could simplify your notes without watering down your message. Then repeat the process a few more times before you deliver your broadcast.

Yeah, this is WOKE and bs. Tribal groups sue each other to be able to exploit the fishery resources. So tired of people acting like tribes are magical altruistic people when they aren't.

Great video, thank you. World needs that wisdom. Nature is out mother, every breath, the food, shelter comes from where? Our Mother, she is the source of life. People, plants and animals are all extensions of the Earth, and we are brothers and sisters born from the same Mother. When we realize that fully, we will reach heaven on earth.

Dr Masaru Emoto speaks about crystals ie snowflakes. Each bearing a specific pattern from various lakes and water bodies. Water can be affected both positively and negatively by words and symbols. We, our body, is comprised of mostly water. What are the tattoos doing to our body? He shows that ugly words create distorted crystals when the water is frozen.

I found that very thought-provoking. Thank you for making the video. It seems so natural to worship, revere and protect the world around us rather than singling out a man-like God. I know a little about modern ideas about fungi but this video brought it all together,

2 things are significant. She was discriminated against in the art world because she was a woman, and Steiner played a major role in that. She would not have had fear, she was deeply disappointed because Steiner could not appreciate her vision... her vision for her Temple. She knew it was futile to present her work... look, even in the 1970s she was being rejected at the Moderna Museet in Stockholm simply because she hadn't shown the work and, of course she was a woman. Plus they couldn't comprehend the depth to it... and history would need to be rewritten. You have to realize the atmosphere for women artists during her time. It has taken years for that to change, and for some of us our careers were sabotaged because it has taken so very long.

Thank you for your comments. We are just beginning to catch up to the great women artists of the past centuries who were "lost" to history or grossly under appreciated due to misogyny. We have a long way to go, but it is an exciting time in the art world rediscovering such artistic talents. I am glad that prestigious venues, like the Guggenheim in 2018-19, are now showcasing her work to the world.

I had a profound, spontaneous kundalini awakening in 1981... no practice involved, in the presence of another person, in a sacred (to me/us) location where I had lived in a past life with the other person present (whom I had just met the night before). Lots of trauma in my life. 🌿🌀🕊💥 This was phase one, and there have been 3 phases total (thus far). And Hilma af Klint is connected, as are some other artists.

truth can be a question of time / perception / understanding /evolution of what you understood & knowledge that you have obtained from your understanding / however truth also exist the moment you perceive & you are unaware of it. time brings the image back to you and once discerned truth is understood.

Hello, I want to tell you I am of Euro and Native American ancestry, my spouse is almost pure Aztec (not extinct as the Spanish narrative wants us to believe) Anyway, I had a spiritual awakening in 1993 which was so powerful and a second part of my first awakening at age 17, I was about 40 then. Shortly thereafter, I began to have dreams and visions....all of these would guide me somehow. I have always been a writer since my youth, but now it has taken a huge shift. ( for this yr and last.) Well, I write poetry on my facebook page and how it comes to me seems a gift from The Creator....This morning before I opened my eyes, I saw an ancient map of North America but right before that dream/vsion, I saw the stars so many of them as though my room had no roof and I was in a place where there was no light pollution. In reality I live in a city. I knew by this vision, it is something I am supposed to write about as these words kept repeating in my mind "The Center Place" Yours was at the top of the list when I searched in youtube using these words. Everything you talked about, and images resonated with me so deeply esp the 6 directions as my vision began with the up direction, the stars. I am going to go now and write the prose as it arrives in my spirit. I want to thank you for following your inner guide to create and study this subject. It is among the most valuable things I have seen lately.

It looks like a electrical force in the universe. I think so because I usually noticed how electrical cords intertwine each other and I have constantly need to separate them when I am moving my electronics around my apartment when I am cleaning. As I believe that the Creator of the universe, MOST HIGH GOD, is an electrical force which creates all things. Does not have the body of a human being, instead our Creator formed us in the inside with a mass of organs interconnected with each other which forms our bodies. That's just my opinion. When I read in the Holy scriptures the "Voice" said to Moses I have no form of a human, but you can see my back....how was His back, Moses never told, really.
