Lovely looking cabin. I actually stayed in the room type a few doors along from you with the sloped balcony - it was HUGE outside!

Why pay a tax that is higher than what the government gets? 20% or more for a tax when GST is 10 or 15%. In Europe there is a service fee. This can sting but you have to do what the locals do. But once that cruiseship is in international waters you can do what the heck you want and you don’t have to feel bad it.

Including "mandatory" tips saves them tax money , the tips are not shared equally as it should let say based on working hours but those in a higher rank doing some admin work 5 hours a day may end up with 2000 / month in tips and the laundry lady that works 70 hours a week gets 500 a month. Your mandatory tip may end up in the cruse ship owner hand tax free while they will include the tips to workers wages which will be partially taxed. That's how it works. They make around 2M / net / week. If you want to make a change : don't tip ! don't include any tips when booking ! That simple . They must get a fair wage for their work , they underpay them in purpuse leaving the pressure on you ...

I hate the discrepancy of tipping. Just pay people their fair wage, across the board and be done with it.

I prepay my daily gratuities. Then I tip in cash those who serve me, face to face. I view the daily gratuities as a shared tip pool and I want to show my gratitude to those who specifically serve me. I budget tips for drinks that I will order, cabin steward, and restaurant servers. I'm trying to figure out what is a good tip for shore excursion guides.

This happened to my friend. She was in a foreign country and the train back to the port got stuck while she was on it so she could t even get a taxi. Luckily A LOT of passangers where actually on that train so they where kinda forced to wait or leave behind roughly 2 dozen people

People don't realise how expensive port costs are and how they are charged. Some people just think the world should wait for them - if they had to foot the cost they'd be prompt!
