Stingrays feeding in the wild
Stingrays have gotten a bad reputation lately due to Steve Irwin's death. It's unfair. They are beautiful and peaceful creatures. They will defend if they feel attacked, but they are not out to get anyone. Most of their time is spent searching for food buried in the sand.
This series of stingrays was captured on multiple dives on different days at different sites. Please approach stingrays with caution and an open mind. And no more Steve Irwin jokes please. What happened to him was tragic, yet these animals are wild. Enjoy their majesty.

    Thank you for this video, it's a year and 1/2 later but I would enjoy paddling that slough. Another paddler with a channel stated you have to be very experience or an expert to paddle the slough, it doesn't seem like it but I would love to see the wildlife!

    • @travgal9903
      @travgal9903 2 роки тому

      @@Ziyanda1111 Elkhorn slough is a very easy paddle. You should be fine. The wind often blows hard in the afternoon, and there might be a light chop on the water. At times, it can blow very hard making it hard to paddle against. Go in the morning, and if there is wind on your return stick close to the side with the trees. Have fun! It's a wonderful paddle.

    • @travgal9903
      @travgal9903 2 роки тому

      You should try it. You do not need a lot of experience to paddle it. If you're unsure, there are guided tours that will make you feel at easy. Contact Monterey Bay Kayak or Kayak Connection. The both operate out of the slough and offer trips. You can also rent a kayak from them and do your own thing. Going out of the harbor into open ocean does require more experience than the slough. So perhaps that's what your friend was referencing?

    I work for Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, and there is a federal law that prohibits any aerial vehicles under 1,000 feet below mean high tide along the entire Big Sur coast. This includes drones. While I understand this may not be known to all hobby drone pilots (I'm one, too!), I'm just here to inform you that this does violate our prohibited fly zone. It has to do with sensitive bird colonies that roost up and down the coast. Don't worry, the federal government won't come "after" you for this, but I would advise that you take this and other similar videos down sooner rather than later. Thanks! BTW, here is the no-fly zone on a map with a short explanation: nmsmontereybay.blob.core.windows.net/montereybay-prod/media/materials/maps/overflight1_full.jpg

    I love its deimatic behavior, or defense tactic. Before resorting to inking and dashing away, when the Common Octopus or Caribbean Reef Octopus percieve a threat, they’ll turn that light blue color with darkened skin around the eyes and proceed to flatten themselves in order to make themselves look larger and more threatening. If that doesn’t work, then it’s ink time!
