I bought a hot rod E83W van in 1973, in Salisbury, Rhodesia. The previous owner had swapped out the tiny 4 cylinder flathead motor in favor of a 283 Chevy V-8 and Powerglide automatic transmission, along with the Chevy rear axle. The cable-operated brakes had been converted to hydraulic, but were still terrible, and it had about 6" of play in the steering wheel, as the worn out steering box struggled to deal with more engine weight and wider tires. The body didn't weigh much, so with most of the weight low and a wide rear axle and Konis, body roll was minimal, and handling was actually pretty good. A 'sleeper' in the truest sense, with Jaguar mufflers, it was quiet, unlike the loud, cammed 4 cylinder cars that it always beat. There were many scary moments, and foolish decisions, but death is an old wives' tale when you're 19.

This caught my eye because Ford Perfect is the name of this guy in "Hitchhikers guide to the gallaxe".

So very cool!!! I am counting the days until I am both recovered from getting hit,wrapped around a telephone pole and nearly having my right leg crushed in two by an F350 while riding my 1957 Harley Panhead to work ;and it being warm enough to start working in the barn. (sorry for the run on sentence..too much information)...I will be starting my YT channel with two builds. The first is a 1928 Morgan Special that has an aircraft opposed twin engine as the front power plant. An Mg 4 speed transmission and gearbox with wire wheels and a wood over steel chassis with ceconite aircraft fabric over the boattail. The second build is a Brooklands style cyclecar with a BMW R-100 engine on the front with an MG 4 speed transmission and a narrowed 10 bolt differential. This will start my shop that specializes in pre WWI race cars and exotics equipped with distributor ignition systems. Thank you for the great video my friend. Not shown are the separate parking (side) lights below the headlights, unique to US/Canada-spec cars and suitable for retrofit as turn signals. "Anglia is in the range of the American low-price field", and a lot less car for the money, not just in size but in being a 1936 car designwise. Currency reform would solve that problem; after Sterling was devalued in 1949 Anglias were advertised as low as $900, a little more than half what a Chevy, Plymouth or American Ford cost. At that price it was a screaming deal. The address from the dealer stamp is now a Multnomah County office building in a dense urban downtown surrounded by residential areas, the nearest Ford dealer must be miles away (any Portlanders want to chime in on that?)

my first car ! In 1967,having been garaged for 6 years,the car,not me ! Absolute joy ! It was a 1938 model with only 19,000 miles registered,and it ran like a dream.

New Subscriber here!! That is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. Why is it that the UK has a huge amount of early prewar cars and here in the states we just do not. At least I have not been able to find them. I have had to build the Morgan that I wanted as well s the Bugatti. Keep up the great work!!

My father bought this van in 1949 from a cancelled order from the local dairy. He kept it for 12 years, during this time it had 2 new engines . He sold it in 1961 for 40 pounds and bought a 100e van for 400 p0unds ! Progress ?

My Dad drove a Ford son articulated lorry for a milk company in the 50s. But a much bigger model of course as things progressed. It had I think a V8 petrol engine

Gosh, only in England would would you see Fordiana outside in the rain! Ford made &displayed cutaway chassis from the Model A through to the V8 era, at least up to 1940. Some of the V8 ones exist in the US. Your videos on rare Ford handbooks are very interesting......just how do you find them in so good condition? Cheers from NZ.
