Thanks for sharing Prof Mark. I sent out an email as a pre read before conducting interview. In the email they replied to, some have written consent. In addition, I started the video interview by asking for their consent.
Nice idea Kristian. I think it is important to be clear on the wording and preiselt to what the research subjects are consenting
Happy New Year and wish you all the best for 2025. I am honored to watch this video by the Author himself. Thank you for your amazing contribution to research methods. I have a much better understanding of the research methods and the details explained in the Research Onion.
thank you... happy new year
Thanks so much for sharing your life journey and such valuable lessons. Talking to you was a great learning experience for me as well 😊 We should do this again soon.
Great work from the Author himself made me to seriously listen and believe every that has been taught here. Thank you for your immense contribution to Research Methods!
thank you for your kind words
Appreciate how you explain this in a simple way, with visuals supporting throughout the video! Thanks Prof Mark
Glad it was helpful!
Always looking forward to seeing which visualization you match with the topic 😃 thank you for the good content!
Excellent video! I did a mixed method design and only used 5 interviews to elaborate on quan findings - perhaps more research is needed. Thank you for uploading this.
Thank you, a great tool to use. Thank you for sharing.
Great practical advice! Thanks Prof Mark.
This excellent sir, it is very helpful. Is well if i say the third outer layer (methodology) is the one we call research design?
Resesrch design is a combination of the layers of methodogogical; choice, strategies, and time horizons
Can highly recommed this book! Excellent for hands-on and if you want to go deeper into business research the book is well structured - and is now very helpful to me :)
Thank you Kristian
Thank you!
You are most welcome
Watching your video again, I must admit that I properly did a few of these mistakes. Despite I made an effort not to. Reflecting back, being deep into a topic as a researcher and suddenly what was difficult to understand seems like common knowledge :D I have used words and concepts which seemed familiar to all, but most likely are not.. Thanks for sharing this video!
Prof Mark, just received your new book - and I recommend it to anyone who is serious about resarch and for those who wants to learn and being able to dip in n out! (Research methods for business students 11th edition)
Thank you for your videos! They are extremely helpful and easy to understand.
By far the best channel on UA-cam on Research Methods. High quality research presented in a structured and easy to understand way. Prof Mark, would you say that using a 6 point or 7 point Likert is too much as it can result in survey fatigue in a survey including 30 plus questions?
Thank you for you kind words. In response to your question: Research shows that up to 7 points is fine for paper or online. However, with a telephone questionnaire 5 is the maximum peopler can hold in their heads dso to speak. Table 11.3 in the 9th edition of Research Methods for Business Students (9th edition) gives different category wordings for 5 and 7 point scales.
Thank you for the detailed explanation. Dr Mark, may I ask, for someone who is doing a qualitative study using data collected from semi-structured interviews, where would it fit under the layer, strategy? Note - using an interpretevist, inductive, mono-method qualitative, cross sectional approach. (I've got it figured for all other layers, except for strategy) and would like your advise on what to say under strategy.
It could be part of a case study strategy being a case study of an organisation, sector or customer group for example. It might be part of an action research strategy or perhaps narrative inquiry. Hope this helps
@@MarkSaundersOnResearchMethods Thank you so much for your prompt reply Dr Mark. If I elaborate a little more, it is collecting data from 3 different categories, based on their past experience, how each category tackle challenges and getting their opinon on how they think would improve collaboration. May I ask, does it sound more like Narrative inquiry then?
In all honesty it is a difficult call. My guess is htat you have some other data from the organisation (probably contextual secondary data). I suggest it is a case study on that basis
@@MarkSaundersOnResearchMethods Thank you Dr. Mark. Much appreciate you getting back to me on this.
Thank you for your lecture Prof. Talking about structure, is it a good practice to combine the 3 structures (specific to general, general to specific, chronological) in a thesis or it's advisable to stick with 1 structure through out?
Not really. I would choose one for a specific paper's literature review
WIsh I had this video a few years ago :D Prof Mark, I used Google Forms as it works well on web and mobile. It is free and the raw data is good for further analysis. (The audio is low on this vidoe vs your other videos, perhaps it is just on my devices)
Hello there. Apologies, the audio is as good as I can get... it is the level my Mac records at!
It's not only on your device, I had wanted to comment on the Audio before too. Kindly help us work on the Audio issues Prof.
@@MarkSaundersOnResearchMethods Thank you prof Mark! :)
This is very helpful. Thank you.
Good to hear

Another gem, thank you, Professor Mark Saunders.
Thank you for your kind words, please encourage others to subscribe
@@MarkSaundersOnResearchMethods, yes, I will do that.
Thanks for sharing this. Interesting to see and get introducted to your newer work from 2023. I am more familiar with previous work. Just ordered the book. Thanks Mark
The newer work will also feature in the qualitative analyses vides when I get round to recording :)
@@MarkSaundersOnResearchMethods I / we are looking forward to the content :)
Thank you so much
Thank you for the good content. Got it recommended by Kristian.
I am pleased you found it helpful, do pass on the link to the channel to others
❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏👍👍👍
Thanks, what is the meaning of rhetoric in writing?
This is in relation writing critically. Critiquing the rhetoric is critiquing the effectiveness of the argument put forward -is it logical, does it make sense. Is the way it is written (language) effective
@@MarkSaundersOnResearchMethods Thank you so much for sharing useful information.
I have read a number of papers and books to understand this. Now it’s the first time I really get it - I’m a visual learner and how you simplify complex concepts is fascinating! Thank you for sharing this with us!
Thanks for sharing. You are filling a critical information gap here and presenting it is easy to understand ways!
Thank you Kristian for your kind words
why i am unable to hear your voice, please purchase new microphones
Apologies. I have checked the recording and the volume is fine with my lap top microphone
Thank you sir for this explanatory video. Will I be right to use survey and case study for my research if the philosophy is positivism, theory approach is deduction, and methodological choice is mono quantitative?
You are most welcome. Thank you for your kind words
Hello there, by survey I assume you mean a questionnaire. This is often associated with positivism, and you can use questionnaires as part of a case study strategy.
@@MarkSaundersOnResearchMethods thank you for your response sir. I meant in the strategy layer of the research onion, can I select both survey and case study as my strategies when am only using questionnaire as my data collection method. Thank you.
@@MarkSaundersOnResearchMethods I have another question. In the procedure and techniques layer, what does "access" implies?
@@akinolagbemisola2186 Access id about gaining access to obtain or collect data. Hope this helps
Thank you.
You're welcome!
Thank you for this explanation.

Do you mean a journal which uses the onion in the methodology?
@@MarkSaundersOnResearchMethods definitely
Yes, I really need it too

Hi Prof. Saunders, thank you for your video! I am exploring how (generative) AI is changing how we make science, not only by integrating it into the methods but also as a support for rationality and creativity. I was glad to watch your video. I think raising awareness about these technologies' benefits and limits is crucial. I will share it on LinkedIn and X. If you wish to explore this subject further, please let me know. I would be glad to discuss it with you. Have a wonderful weekend, Quentin Loisel
Thanks for sharing
Hello Prof. Mark. Our lecturer used your research book in my undergrad studies, in a place which you may not expect...Eritrea. Your book is still my research companion in my pubished and on going papers. I am glad to see you in UA-cam... though it seems to me you are a bit late...we need people like you who have concrete and research based research experience to be in UA-cam... I am also happy for the AI and research topics you are discussing. Please continue. Thanks indeed!
Thank you for your kind words -appreciated
