If you’re still curious of what it is, that’s a horse hair worm. They mostly infect crickets or whatever ends up eating them, the parasite starts it’s cycle as an egg, which get eaten by mayfly larvae to which the worm larvae bore inside and wait. Next when the mayflies mature and reach dry land, if they get eaten by a cricket or any insect that eats mayflies (usually they target crickets or related insects) they will become infected by the parasite because really the worm isn’t after mayfly. After a while the cricket will lose its chirp while the parasite eats it from the inside, but they don’t kill their hosts. Once the worms are mature enough they take over the crickets mind and forces it to go into the nearest body of water where they’ll emerge, mate and start the process all over again. And since crickets can’t really swim they’ll usually drown in the water, those that don’t go back to being crickets like it never happened in the first place. Do not panic! Horse hair worms are not after humans. And if I’m not mistaken, I think these worms will only escape their host early if the cricket is accidentally killed or stepped on since the host will not have much use for it if it’s dead.
