    Worst offender I’ve noticed are Häagen-Dazs dropping from one pint (16 oz) to 14 oz while the price is frequently higher than the 16 oz, when it was available. Also, as you observed, TP changed from plastic wrapping around 12 or 18 rolls to now using paper wrap. One thing that changed is the advert on the packaging that “the roll will fit on your TP holder or your money back” has been removed. Today’s rolls of TP more easily fit but that’s because each sheet of Quilted Northern is thinner and the roll doesn’t include as many sheets. I’ve never given so much consideration to adding a bidet toilet seat as I have over the past 12-18 months. It’s all a big pain in the @$$.😅

    • @nobsinvesting
      @nobsinvesting 4 дні тому

      It’s truly ridiculous! I’m with you, a bidet is probably the way to go. Especially because people keep buying all of the toilet paper every time there is a potential supply chain crisis. People raided the to after the port strike, and it isn’t even a major import, we make most of it in the US.

      There is definitely some pros to deflation, especially when it is due to efficiency. But it also causes people to stop buying things, to wait for the price to drop, which causes the economy to slow down. This is why the Fed freaks out when inflation gets too low and turns on the money printer and slashes interest rates.

    I wish people would stop making this claim that if you get more than $3 a day to live on you are in the top x percent of the world. Its total nonsense. What matters is cost vs income in your area not total income. If you live on $3 a day but bread where you live costs $0.02 then you are doing well, on the other hand if you live on $100 a day but bread where you live costs $50 then you are doing very badly. Yes these figures are made up as extreme illustrations but the point is what you live on a day is irrelevant only that income vs cost in your area matters.

    Your essay covers a lot of important ground, but there are some areas that could benefit from improvement in structure, tone, and clarity. Here's some feedback: ### **Strengths:** 1. **Engaging Topic**: The subject matter of "big tech" companies deteriorating over time due to profit-focused decisions is relevant and thought-provoking. It connects with readers who are likely frustrated by similar experiences with these companies. 2. **Examples**: You use strong real-world examples-Amazon, Uber, Netflix-to illustrate your points, which makes the essay more relatable and grounded. These examples help paint a vivid picture of how "big tech" companies have changed. 3. **Conversational Tone**: The essay has a casual, approachable style that can appeal to a wider audience. Your conversational approach keeps the reader engaged. ### **Areas for Improvement:** #### 1. **Clarity & Flow**: - Your essay jumps from point to point a bit abruptly. Consider adding clearer transitions between ideas. For example, after you finish discussing Amazon, use a sentence or two to smoothly introduce the shift to Uber. - There are also places where the text gets repetitive, especially with phrases like “I think” and “now that they have reached market saturation.” Tightening up the language could make the essay more concise and powerful. **Example Revision:** Instead of “Amazon used to offer free two-day shipping, but now Prime is getting more expensive, and you’re paying for worse service,” you could write, “Amazon’s Prime service once stood out for its affordable two-day shipping. Today, however, Prime’s fees are rising, and the value users receive has diminished, with price hikes and added restrictions like minimum purchases for faster delivery.” #### 2. **Structure**: - The essay feels a bit like a rant (which you admit at the end). While this can be effective in some formats, turning this into a more structured analysis will give your points more weight. Divide the essay into sections with clear headings or guiding sentences. For example, each company (Amazon, Uber, Netflix) could have its own section with a brief introduction to the core argument. - Additionally, consider having a short introduction where you define "en**shit**ification" clearly, and a concise conclusion that ties all the examples together with a more definitive call to action. #### 3. **Tone**: - Your conversational tone is appealing, but some moments are too informal or contain filler that dilutes the impact. Phrases like “freaking bookstore,” “I almost fell out of my chair,” and “mental” could be replaced with more focused language. While casual writing is fine, some of these detract from the seriousness of your argument. **Example Revision**: Instead of “I almost fell out of my chair,” try “The price was staggering.” It conveys the same shock but feels more polished. #### 4. **Grammar & Punctuation**: - There are a number of spelling and grammar issues. For example, “inchification” should be “enshitification,” and words like “TR and ification” appear as mistakes. Cleaning up these typos will make the essay more readable. - You often use run-on sentences and overuse commas. Breaking up longer thoughts into more digestible sentences will help with readability. **Example Revision**: Instead of “then they introduce surge pricing when there’s way more demand for rides and there is supply of drivers the drivers can make two three or even four times on a ride,” break it up: “They then introduced surge pricing. When demand outpaced the supply of drivers, those drivers could make two, three, or even four times their regular earnings on a ride.” ### **Suggested Outline for Improvement:** 1. **Introduction**: Define en**shit**ification clearly, preview your argument. 2. **Section 1 - Amazon**: Discuss its initial success, what changed, how it became more profit-driven, and the impacts on consumers. 3. **Section 2 - Uber**: Dive into how Uber shifted from affordable, convenient rides to surge pricing and driver exploitation. 4. **Section 3 - Netflix**: Illustrate Netflix’s transition from cheap, ad-free streaming to a tiered service with inflated prices. 5. **Conclusion**: Summarize the overall trend of big tech companies prioritizing shareholders over users. Offer a strong closing thought or call to action. ### **Overall Grade: C+** You have solid ideas and engaging examples, but the structure needs improvement, and the tone could be a bit more formal for an essay. Polishing grammar and making your argument more focused will elevate this piece significantly.

    I don't buy online. I don't pay for subscriptions except for Pandora (which is also enshittified, but not as much since they never were as good). I will never order fast food online. I never order a ride share.

      That’s amazing, idk how you do it! I still get sucked into some subscriptions like Netflix and UA-cam premium.

      @@nobsinvesting I listen to a lot of UA-cam. Long essays for long drives. Amazon was easy to quit, especially as they screwed me out of my MP3s i bought from them. Once a driver followed me to yell at me for daring to swerve out of the way of an even bigger truck towards him. I will rather go to any brick and mortar than deal with Amazon. For home we have DVDs. We find great deals at thrift shops and walmart. In a pinch we just rent off google. As far as ride share, my wife and i were stuck a Mile and a half from our hotel during a huge traveling mix-up. There were no Ubers available. One Lyft that denied our request. And no cabs because they went out of business. We had to walk to the hotel with our luggage. In the morning we walked back to the bus stop because our first and only attempt to use those services was garbage. She has a friend who is going crazy doing deliveries and rides. She doesn't realize she's losing money and sanity doing this. They say you get to "make your own hours" but no, if you want any business you have to be available during your day job hours.

    Thanks for watching! Do you think The American Dream is alive and well?
