Hey Chris, thanks so much! Great to hear you enjoyed the beats. I keep meaning to record a how to video but have moved away from using Link as it needs sync on, which isn't how I mix currently. I have ended up manually matching Ableton to the decks. It's works most of the time 😆. Hope you manage to get something going that works for you. Cheers!

@@tecModeDJ and that is what I have been doing up to now, using a hardware sampler (Pioneer/Toraiz SP-16) and treating it like a 3rd deck and just nudging pitch/tempo live. I don't use Sync, and I want to have the DJ deck control tempo, but every scenario keeps looking like DJ decks can't be the master clock, unless it is CDJ3000 with Pro-Link. Show Kontrol is another (more expensive) option. Still hunting for the best workflow that creates a Hybrid setup with the ability to improvise. Thanks for the reply!

@@chriscoxofficial I'm in the same boat. Did you figure out what your tech setup will be? Currently I'm going to use Ableton and Push for vox manipulation since that's what I have, but I want to get a Midi Fighter Twister because it's so portable.

Hey, thanks for the kind words! In terms of how things are connected, yes, everything ends up at the DDJ-1000. The general audio routing is.... Rekordbox on channels 1 & 2 Vinyl / Technics 1210 on channel 4 Hardware instruments on channel 3 (these are summed using a Yamaha MG10XU). I have tried Ableton Link but find it restrictive as you need to use sync when mixing. Instead I have the TR-8S as the midi clock source. Everything slaves off that, even Ableton when I use it. I then manually beatmatch the TR-8S with Rekordbox and bring it into the mix. Essentially I tread the 8S like another deck. Hope that helps.

​@@tecModeDJ Nice that makes sense. Yeah LINK feels overly restrictive in a lot of ways. The better I get at beatmatching, the less important LINK feels anyway. This is great, you've encouraged me to keep going with my hybrid setup. I have the Push3 standalone I'm trying to work in basically the way you use the TR8S.

Hey great! Glad it's helped with the inspiration. My tip would be work with the BPMs as whole numbers to start. E.g. set the playing deck on Reckordbox to 128.00 BPM, for example, then it's easy to set the BPM via your push to 128.00BPM too. Start Ableton in time with the playing deck and either nudge Ableton or the playing deck to get things tight. Then mix in Ableton. Boom!

​@tecModeDJ I have a hybrid rig, too. It's battery operated. I've been spinning at parks in Tokyo since 2017. The computer is a NUC mini PC, boots Win 10 and Mac OS. "Hackintosh" Two USB powered 15 inch touch screen displays. One as main screen, the other for visuals downloaded from youtube. Lots of AI text to videos, some I made made myself. Wireless headphone, using 2.4GHz transmitter/receiver set, so I'm not tethered to the rig. I can dance around, mingle with the audience and run back and forth at will. USB powered wifi router. Virtual DJ and Virtual DJ remote via wifi Ableton Live NI Reaktor 5 TouchOSC on three iPhones and one iPad to trigger samples and effects on Live and control Reaktor synths, and drum machines. The iphones and ipad also runs Virtual DJ remotes. Ableton Link syncs Virtual DJ and Live. Battery packs and charger are custom made. Packs are raw pouch Li Ion cells, it runs the rig for about 6 hours. All of the above are housed in a metallic light weight travel case. The main display is fixed to the lid so the screen swings out when you open it, like a laptop. My speaker box, amp and battery pack are homemade too, from junk bookshelf speakers and cheap amp boards from China. Everything is strapped onto a folding luggage cart, which was a pain hopping on and off trains (I don't own a car) and because it's pretty heavy, especially on rough pavement and cobble stone roads... so a few months ago, I rigged a self-balancing "hoverboard" to the cart as my mule and it works great, I'm no longer exhausted before I even get to the park, as well coming back home drunk dog tired. I'm no musician so I've only been using soft synths to make wild sounds, and as a sampler. And for FX on the mic. I occasionally sing along to my retro 80's sets, and Japanese chicks dig it lol But I have to get pretty drunk to get started. But yeah, J chicks love their karaoke culture. I'm also broadcasting on FM radio as a poor man's silent disco system.

Thanks! The screens are essentially green screens. Artists canvases I painted green then key them out in OBS using the chroma key filter. The visuals are made using Synesthesia spouted into OBS. 👍

Yo! Sorry, missed your comment when it came in. The hardware syncs with Rekordbox using Ableton Link. So start Ableton with all your hardware synced to that. Then sync Ableton to Rekordbox with Ableton Link. Hope this helps ✌️

Hi Aaron. I'm going to make a video on how to use Ableton Link soon. In the meantime, make sure you have the 'ext' button tuned on in Ableton. This was a key bit of info to get it working for me. There's no way, as far as I know, to get Ableton or Rekordbox to both start on the 1st beat of the bar, you have to do this manually by starting the track on Rekordbox in time with the Link indicator in Rekordbox. Feel free to send me a message via Instagram if you'd like more info. I have a rough and ready video I can share.

@@tecModeDJ went with a DDJ-FLX6-GT ... figured I'm getting back to it and she's just getting started, good intermediate controller that has the 4-deck flexibility and Serato DJ Pro & rekordbox for options. Plus it was affordable enough to rent-to-own without a big hit on the monthly budget.

Hi. I'm planning to make a video on it at some point but will describe the setup briefly for you. I use the DDJ with Rekordbox to mix MP3s but then use one of the line-in channels to take the stereo mix from the TR-8S drum machine. The TR-8S is the main midi clock for all the music hardware and Ableton. I manually beat match the TR-8S with the tracks I play with Rekordbox. So, midi clock goes from the TR-8S to Ableton and the two synthesisers I am running (TD-3 MO and Dreadbox Typhon). When I press play on the TR-8S Ableton starts as do the synthesisers internal sequencers. They all follow the tempo of the TR-8S. I also use the TR-8S as the audio interface (sound output) for Ableton. I do not route any of the hardware audio via Ableton and in this way have no latency issues. Hope this makes sense 😅
