Thank goodness nobody has to put up with the inane babble of Mike Raymond anymore! Commentators - there's been some goodun's and some poor ones, but Raymond ties with Sandy flippin' Roberts*, as the _worst_ of them all. Yeah, yeah - one was a genuine enthusiast, and the other tried to sound like he was (unconvincingly), but pretending to be gameshow hosts did _not_ make up for just being terrible at 1. knowing their stuff, and 2. communicating it to everybody watching. 🤦‍♂️ * Roberts? He jammed his foot in his mouth regularly, and for extended periods, but possibly his best/worst moment might be, "They're sweating tears of blood out there!" 🤯🫠😭

Such a shame that he had his 10th win in the bag in this '94 race, but he stuffed it up with a rare mistake .. he was running 3rd after Mezera's stint with approx 30 laps to go - in front of him (Lownes and Bowe) were both low on fuel and needed to pit at race pace - this would've put Brock in first and sealed his 10th - but it was not to be - unfortunately he put it in the wall. (Mezera was furious 😂 ) Some good came of these turn of events though - by the time they towed 05 off the track it opened the way for Lownes to shine by intensely battling with Bowe, including Lownes' infamous "accidental" outside overtake on Bowe at turn 2 - both drivers put on an amazing nail-biting performance to the last lap.

Brock's best lap easily should've been 2:05 to 2:07 rate.

The Torana L34 had the same size brakes as the large GT fords. Larger than any previous Bathurst Holden. So, to say the L34 brakes were an issue shows a lack of knowledge. They were an advantage..

I was utterly spoilt as a kid growing up watching these drivers. They should have a second race at Bathurst, earlier in the season, when it's more likely to be wet.

Good job, I was born on the day of the Bathurst 1000 in 1975, it’s like I fell in love with motorsports since the day I was born.

So cool how in the pit lane close ups you can see they really were just tough street cars, the Toranas with drum brakes and Moffats falcon even had the stock steering wheel on it!

Will Hagon & Evan Green sounded so similar. Extremely similar. This was the last Bathurst 1000 Will Hagon commentated for Channel 7. After spending 1976 commentating in England, he returned to Australia in 1977, & joined the ABC commentating on Motor Sport races for them for a very long time.

It really was interesting back then. The V8 roar vs turbo whistle, the sleek styling of the gtr coupe vs the boxy sedans, awd advantage when the track got wet, AWD on slicks in the wet vs RWD on wet tyres, it had it ALL. Then they ruined it, instead of being an incentive to Holden/Ford to produce better cars, they just got rid of the GTR.
