Taking into consideration the vast amount of composers during the last few centuries and the competitive nature of this profession, it's no wonder that a lot of them didn't stand the test of time, with their compositions becoming forgotten. The goal of this channel is to give prominence to these lesser known composers and their works, giving them their reserved recognition.
PS I have a slight bias towards Greek composers and piano literature - I am a Greek pianist after all!

Kalomiris - Nocturne, Op.4 No.1 (Garoufalis)
A hidden gem from a composer not very known outside of Greece. It’s one of Kalomiris’ most well known pieces and it has pretty much everything you would expect from an early 20th century solo piano piece; fast passages, exotic harmony, octave runs, daring modulations etc. Some other highlights include the two recapitulations of the main theme, once in the key of the dominant and once in the key of the tonic, with increasingly tense left hand accompaniment and the dazzling cadenza at the very end.
Garoufalis’ interpretation is stunning, having sublime dynamic control (especially during the quiet parts), while sustaining a light touch throughout the piece.
