I thank God everyday my Father gave me this same talk in 8th grade back in 2018. It didn’t take my father’s word’s to realize he was right. Believe it or not and you’re more than welcome to question it, I am an historian. I’m going to college for history and anthropology, and I’ve always been in love with history and the depths of history and anthropology since I was about the age of 5. I’ve always been passionate for it and every year, the more I got ingrained in objective and more in depth history and anthropology, the more I slowly realized my father was right. Go on, name one, just name one super power nation that’s come from Sub Sarah Africa at any point in any era of history. You objectively can’t. When Obama became President, this country went to hell like never before. Because self destructive behavior is inherently anthropological and genetic in them. While us Europeans created the sophisticated and modern world, and it’s a pity to those who’d label that, “Eurocentric.” If “Eurocentric” is now a synonym for “truth” than sure. It’s “Eurocentric.” My father was right about them, and I will teach it to my kids and they will teach it to theirs. To all of those who think, “the cycle” will end soon. Keep dreaming. Everyone is focusing on the firefighter part of his dad’s rant and missing the irony of his comments about the books. Derrick’s dad is a firefighter without a college education who only reads Tom Clancy novels. He doesn’t have a background in education and can’t seem to even name a single one of the “great books” he mentions. He claims that America is about the “best man for the job” and that race should have nothing to do with it - and yet he claims to know so much more about education that a man with two Ph.Ds just because the teacher is black. Derrick’s dad completely lacks the qualifications that he claims should be considered instead of race and makes a judgement purely based on race. Derrick’s dad is a complete hypocrite championing a double-standard.

This shows how subtle racism is. His dad was casually mentioning what he believed to be true over dinner. He did not nean to turn his son into a violent racist but the events that happened subsequently affirmed this viewpoint

Funny thing is the whole film is basically right in the end. At its core. The bad guys in this aren't wrong, they're just using the wrong methods. The actual core idea that multi racial societies often don't work is true. You could argue from the start, America was already a failed idea. Now that doesn't mean you can't have small numbers of foreigners, or that you should treat people like crap, but from a political and societal angle? You really have to understand why these socities are doomed from the start, and in the case of Europe (my pov), why the late stage adoption of these ideas is even worse. Hemegonous socities are THE ONLY way to secure harmony, prosperity, and stability.

Only one bad thing telling this type of conservative oriented mind is your child could lose ability of expanding possibility. Forcing complete rules on others who have different common sense will be a subconscious bondage that requires you to continue to be an example yourself. For children and adolescents, it is like confining their imagination in a narrow cage, and for adult men, it is like a weight on themselves that makes it difficult to compete with society, and even the world. Otherwise the message of this father and other message Derek said is completely logical and correct. The problem is not many people can’t live like them.

What’s sad and disturbing is that William Russ’ role as the dad in American History X is probably a more accurate portrayal of middle class white American dads than his role in as the dad in Boy Meets World.

I agree with the officer. It should be the best person for the job instead of being by appearance instead of experience and talent. I myself was denied promotions and high paying jobs because i didn’t look like I needed the promotion or the jobs I wanted /applied for. I graduated from state university college and two degrees while the ones who got the jobs and promotions came from city colleges and most were ged graduates. And they barely speak English well and they are born in the USA while I am trilingual going on five languages born in this country too 🇺🇸.

When I first saw this in high school I thought he was insanely racist. No doubt he's racist, but now I understand his point and he wasn't being as racist as I thought he was.
