They are playing at the 80/35 festival this summer on July 7th, 2023, in Des Moines! The War on Drugs are head-lining that day. You can also check them out on May 26th and 27th at Dave's (the lead singer) bar Octopus on The Hil in C.F. Come on out, relive the memories and support local music, again.
I grew up right outside NYC and liked the Ramones. When I listen to these guys, I either like a song or I don't. But I always keep them around. I've turned on a few friends to them. I enjoy finding bands outside of the mainstream that are good. There are many hidden treasures out there!
God I miss this band. Old school Gabes patron here. Came up from Fairfield regularly, especially to see these badasses. Barb looks so damned awesome in this vid. What a great rockin' chick. Thank you Dave for many years of just killin' it up there. Sooooooo underrated. Ridiculous.
@@steveb796 It was....and it's too bad it was torn down. I miss Pour Richards also- both were great bars back in the day. The hill is just a shell of its former self now- OP is gone, Tony's is gone...I don't think there are any bars left there- they've all closed down, or been torn down.
@@StormLaker Dave's bar Octopus is there. Since covid has settled down, he's had acts play there, again. HOLS will play there May 26th-27th, 2023. Support local music!
@@michaelmalone7231 SWEEEEEEET!!!! Now if we could round up bands like 9 Dollar Mellon Baller, and some of the others from the 90's that would be amazing, haha.
I love the Blue Room Lounge sign at around 1:21... I remember hanging out there a couple times back in college. Good memories. I like how it's an Orange Crush sign even though they never served Orange Crush.
How fun! I googled 'em just4 sh*ts&giggles..and lo&behold...here they are! I saw 'em a bunch in CedarFalls...stubs on th hill(?) and then up in mlps. whenev they came around. Loved that pogo dancin' bass player. vocalist could range from johhny rotten to geddy lee at the drop of a hat! miss 'em. howza-bouta reunion hols? npeace
I grew up in Gabe's. Probably ran into several of you along the way. HOLS was a must-see show in Iowa City in the early to middle 90's! People in Iowa City planned their weekends around these shows!!! Specifically, I miss the rafters (no, I didn't swing on them, though I thought it pretty cool that people got away with it . . . ) and the two-foot stage. I've been through Bad Religion to NOFX to Nirvana, etc. etc. and the only bloody nose I ever got was at a HOLS show. SO MUCH FUN!!!
LOVE HOLS. I used to go see these guys all the time at the maintenance shop in Ames and in DSM whenever they played here. You can follow them on Facebook if you want to. They do play shows and are writing new music.
Still kicks ass

I'm one of the people hanging from the ceiling in the video. Shooting the video was so much fun.
Had the good fortune to see them twice in SF. Great live band, and I got to chat with Barb before one of the shows.

Went to so many shows in the 90s in Dubuque. So loud!!! I swear my ears are still ringing!
