Ep. 138 - A New Way to Score For Your Golf Brain
Scoring can be mental. How you think about par, birdie, bogey can affect how you show up over the ball. You can put unnecessary pressure on yourself to make a putt for par or give yourself a "3-putt pass" on a par 5 if you hit the green in two.
In this episode, I share a different way to think about scoring so that you can stand over as many shots as possible from a calm, certain or confident place.
Listen in and gain a paradigm shift on scoring with 3 key concepts.

I loved your second point about our thoughts playing golf. In politics they call it projection, when you project your own faults and biases on the opposition or other people.

It’s a bit like all the tips you hear on the golf course. They tend to be what people are working on rather than what fits with your own swing!

Hey! and Yes...and I coach some that struggle more with worrying about what other people think, comparison or anger, or pressure of trying to play college golf...keeping expectations in check with all of it for sure.

Thank you Kathy. I like the distinction between understanding that you may not be confident in a certain aspect of your game, but you CAN be confident that you will learn and get better at it!

Maybe a subject for one of your discussions is giving up control to gain control. Sometimes we are definitely afraid on good rounds, but other times we seem to be taking too much control of the shot early in the bad rounds. Certainly more control than that is required to swing a golf club.

Great comment and finding that balance is subtle, but you are right....I thought that comes to mind listening to your ideas is craving. When you ‘crave a result’, then you’ve gone too far and you are now trying too hard rather than trying hard.

Thank you, Kathy! I'm 62 and only took up golf 2.5 years ago. I love the game. I hate when I allow others to make me self-conscious, even though they may be trying to help, and I lose my "game plan." Lol. I am enjoying your podcasts!

Hi Paula! Thanks for listening and yes, golfers love to give advice especially to new golfers! But keep in mind people can't "make" you self-conscious. You feel that because of a thought that you have about what they said. Might be something like: "I don't know what I am doing." "I am doing it wrong" - You can explore that...You get to decide to think whatever you want about the words they say...they don't have the power to make you feel anything...You go this and keep enjoying the game.
