Good video explaining the process. The leather part is the best on yt.
Really informative video. Excellent work! Just completed mine. One tip I found was to remove the top half of the fan shroud. It has 4 clips and 2 bolts. This makes the crank shaft and alternator bolts easily available to turn. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
Good video family. I’m preparing to do a cam swap, cylinder heads, valve train, intake manifold, and tune soon so this video definitely helps prepare for the work ahead. I think It will take some time for sure but that’s fine.
If you losing compression is it even worth changing the cylinder head and gasket
Did you prime up the truck before you started it up or did you just turn over the key and start it?
Hey man, great work. I just did this to my 2006 silverado, but I'm getting smoke at start up. Looks like I screwed up getting the gasket to seat properly. My angle gauge broke too, so I was guessing at the TTY on the bolts on the p. side head before I remembered sharpies exist and you can just mark the bolt. I was pretty nervous about scoring the deck, so I think I under cleaned it. I noticed your block has a solid sheen to it before you mated the new gaskets. What did you do to dress the block? Thanks man.
I would check to make sure you have the timing of the valves right. Making sure you're TDC on the compression stroke or powerstroke based on whatever sequence you are using. As far as dressing the block I cleaned it very well and went over it with a brass wire brush and scotch Brite pad.
Helped me change mine out. Thanks for your time and effort man.Great job!
Good job buddy that was a hell of a job God bless
Them hoses under the throttle body I just pulled throttle body off intake and pulled it for ward off intake then hoses are hard to get too lol
Does it really matter if you break the header bolts since you arent reusing the heads? Id say screw it, if it breaks, it breaks.
You're helping me so much with my 2000 5.3 thank you.
Great instructional video, thanks.
watched the whole series, good job, way to get it done! now I'm gonna do the samething
Excellent series.
You did a great job, thanks for sharing! ✌️
Just watched all 4 episodes mate good work 👍🏾 some thing iv wanted to do so I might just jump in and get started.
Thanks for watching
Hey nice videos! I am about to do this same thing on my 04 suburban. Where did you get your parts?
normally i get mine at rock auto, or you can do the deep dive for the good ol LS3 head swap and go summit racing. there is a price difference between the two rock auto is going to charge just slightly less.
Thank you for posting this. My coolant is magically disappearing. Oil looks good, did a compression test and compression is good, but cooling system isn't holding pressure under a test. Pulling the valve covers tomorrow to check for signs of coolant evaporating, but all signs point to head replacement. I'm a weekend warrior mechanic, and this will be the largest task to date on my suburban by far, so I appreciate this video. How long did the job take you?
I think it ended up taking around 12 hours. This was in the my freezing garage which my truck barely fit in. This was the biggest thing i had done. I can tell you a couple things since then. Dont cheap out on cylinder heads, gaskets, or head bolts. I used cheap gaskets on this and 3 months later i was having the same problem. I used a cheap reman cylinder heads and now i have a leak in the valve seal. Cheap head bolts and they can snap when torquing.
I would go with felpro. Also, pick up a repair manual at the autoparts store. Super great to have. One last piece of advice. If you can pull the engine do it. I was super intimidated by the notion, but in order to swap the cylinder heads you are 85% the way to having the engine ready to be pulled. It absolutely is worth figuring out. Far less head ache taking the heads off and putting them back on, Especially when it comes to torquing them. If you have any questions let me know. Thanks for watching and good luck.
how did your head gasket job go i have to do this with my 99 suburban
I thank you very much for explaining the leather part I watched 5 videos before yours and you are the only one that spent the time on the leather the hardest part thank you now I will attempt to make one myself thanks again
There was a lot of trial and error. =) Thanks for watching.
