AER TRAVEL PACK 3 SMALL X-PAC vs 1680D BALLISTIC NYLON (QUICK LOOK)
Переглядів 35 тис.2 роки тому
This is a quick look at the AER Travel Pack 3 Small in X-PAC. I couldn't find any videos on the X-PAC version of this backpack, so I made one. I hope this gives you better insight into the possible pros and cons of this version of the pack. Thanks for watching! Link to this pack: www.aersf.com/travel-pack-3-small-xpac-black
When you grab the pack with the top handle, do you feel that “wrapping material” around the handle tends to “overfit” the handle, thus creating a flimsy feeling when grabbing? I think AER used excessive wrapping nylon around the top handle, hence the flimsy feeling.
great review! very thorough! however... i am astounded that every review of the TRAVEL pack 3, fails to recognize what could possibly go in the boarding pass sized quick access pocket, opposite of the water bottle. i've seriously watched every review of this bag i can find and i'm starting to think that I am the one going crazy.
Good review. Can you tell me how the aquaguard zippers hold up over time? Is that rubberized coating peeling off the zippers? Also how does the xpac hold up? Is it easy to clean? Any abbasions?
I just got this pack to be with my carry on luggage so it had to be smaller to be within personal size limitations which it is. I'm tryna be more minimalist but for 2 weeks in Italy I figured I'll need carry on as well vs only having regular size of this bag and only a small sling as my personal. I was close to just getting bigger version so I hope I made right call.
The bag has pull tabs on the zippers, but they require two hands to use. I got a bit lazy with my other X-Pac bag and ended up breaking both zippers, which was a shame because I really loved it until that happened. If you're out in the rain a lot, don't forget to add some rain repellent. It's fine for light rain, but in a downpour, it doesn’t hold up as well. Thanks for the video...
Large or small in your opinion?
Waterproof?
Highly water resistant!
Great review. The website now says that this bag is made in China.
Thanks for the kind words. Woooooooow this is disappointing news!
Still own it? Is it showing much wear???
I actually no longer own this bag after seeing some more pictures of how dyneema wears over time. It definitely starts showing its age after some time.
@gearbreakofficial I understand thanks
Solid review because it’s definitely something not a lot of other people are discussing.
nice wrx
Any problem bring it as personal item on airlines?
I never tried it but you should be okay for most airlines that have 18x14x8 size it is slightly larger than that but I doubt you would be stopped walking in most of the time
Great review
Is this the ranger green colorway for the GR1? Color looks different all the time for me
Yes it is! This is an older workshop version from 2018 I believe full 1000d
Also, my color settings on this video may have altered the color a bit
I have ptsd from goruk lmao, just watching you throw random little things everywhere because lack of organization is just crazy. I do like it better than axiom, like... in look and use, but the axiom is just too easy to use in everyday use, so hard to use another once you go axiom. you instally "feel" the flaws of other bags
100% understand what your saying haha having some built in org is just nice to have. Gorucks build and warranty keep me around though!
A very useful video. The GR1 and the CPL do seem to hold the same overall but you do have to know how to pack the CPL (i.e. use all the different spaces) to take full advantage. Love the simplicity of the GR1 and the fact that you can attach pouches etc to the molle, thereby expanding capacity if required.
Yup! Also the gr1 will be able to fit bulkier items like camera cubes or packing cubes much better in its main compartment. Minimal travel is much easier in gr1 but for daily carry I much prefer cpl’s layout with its independent volume pockets
What patch is on the cpl?
filip raboch!
Great review. Just recommend putting them on to see shape once packed and also comfort?
Good idea! Next one!
Great to see you back, actually really enjoyed your previous videos, can’t wait for more!
So basically the D ring is useless?
I believe it’s to hang a water bladder
what website did you sell the bag on? i have a 40L AER would like to sell as well. its in great condition
I usually sell on local marketplace or eBay!
Thank you so much for this video! This was just what I needed to make a decision about which version to buy
Nice review man. Do you think a 32oz Nalgene would fit on the bottle compartment?
Probably not although I don’t know for sure. I no longer have this pack so I can’t test it.
Curious to know why you opted for the small version? Also…. how many pairs of shoes would you say fit? I want one to accompany me when traveling for my shoes only. My carry on can’t handle them with everything else I put it in.
I wanted a minimal travel pack that could fit under the seat on an airplane instead of using the overhead. I no longer have this pack so I’m not sure I guess it depends what kind of shoes. Jordans for instance maybe 3-4 pairs if you’re willing to squish them a bit.
I’m just looking for a carry-on/ personal item for travel.
Also check out ula dragonfly, evergoods CPL24 or ctb26, goruck gr1 21l for personal items
@@gearbreakofficialWhat about the North face router?
great video!! really comprehensive. One question - does this bag stand up on it's own?
There’s no padding on the base so empty it won’t stand on its own. But if you pack it right it will!
@@gearbreakofficial thanks for actually replying! Is it pretty hard to pack it right for it to stand? Or simply putting things at the base gives it enough rigidity? I've seen videos of this bag fully packed, and when placed down, it just rocks over and falls down
@call_me_lazarus I think it gets tricky when trying to use the front organization as it’s going to make the bag front heavy
This was the most comprehensive rundown I found of this bag and ultimately swayed my decision in favour of it! Love your enthusiasm for the CPL, thanks for your review!
This is incredibly helpful. Glad I came across this because I couldn't quite put my thumb on what made the x-pac different. Thanks for doing this!
I'm considering buying the 35L travel pack 3 in x-pac. Very good review, I decided to hold off until I come up with a solution to the zipper bending down when closing. Now I got a simple idea. What if I snip off the metal zipper pulls and put large loop of paracord directly in the place of the metal pulls. A large knot in the end of the paracord loop to help with grip. Surely that would go over the locking ring and help with the pull!
Yup I actually did this on an aer travel pack 2 I had a while back, worked great!
Good call out on the thick material near the zipper track. Definitely increases friction.
Same, I thought I was the only one as other reviewers don’t mention it. It’s right at the corners too. Slightly annoying but not difficult or a dealbreaker, at least
Great review brother! Trying to decide between cpl 28 & can 35. This was super helpful to see how much you can fit in the main compared to the 35. Thinking the 28 is the perfect sweet spot for my one bag travel
Glad it was helpful! You just gave me an idea for another video! Thank you!
Cool bag but dont see the reason why you need those compression straps on the bottom. If anything i can see the plastic part wearing out from constantly setting the bag down.
I think it’s to attach gear like a mat or jacket, but I agree those plastic buckles do get banged up!
100% agree about the zippers getting stuck. AER could add zippers with more clearance that cover over the lock holes so that when u zip up, it doesn’t push down on the zippers. I’ve told Aer the same thing. love the xpac lock, hate the zippers. Also the laptop compartment should also zip all the way down to the bottom to make packing / access easier.
Yea it’s a shame! Otherwise solid bag
Thanks for the review! I'm looking to get the City Pack Pro in X-Pac but I had a couple of concerns I hope you'd be able to answer... 1. Have you experienced any bumps/delamination/other blemishes developing on the material (especially along the "X" lines)? 2. Would you say the X-Pac is relatively stiff/less stretchy than the Cordura to the degree it affects how much you can fit into the backpack at maximum capacity?
I don’t have this bag but have a different Aer XPac. No, there are no blemishes. I’ve had mine for 4 years with no issues. The sturdiness I guess would make it difficult to overpack compared to more flexible material but I have not ran into that issue. I also don’t think it’s a big deal because any material would only stretch a few millimeters more, so you’re not really going to see a big difference in capacity.
I have seen so many examples of those bumps forming on xpac in general that I would say yea all laminated fabrics will start delaminating over time depending on use, just the nature of it I guess currently. And yea the fabric has no give and is stiff it might affect packing ever so slightly but if you’re stuffing your bag to max capacity I’d say just size up to something bigger. A bag packed like that isn’t nice to use lol good luck!
did the zippers break in over time or are they still quite stiff? debating between the x-pac and 1680d. also, do you think the 1680d is more durable?
Didn’t keep it long enough to break in the zippers but yes I bet they do ease up. The 1680 is definitely more abrasion resistant and will hold up longer. 🤙🏼
Using compression bags are the best when using a bag this small.
Much appreciated man!
Thanks for the honest review. I was on the fence for the Travel Pack Small variations.
Great review. My only question is how much lighter is the xpac vs. ballistic nylon? If the weight difference was substantial enough, I’d consider xpac.
The website lists the xpac as .2 lbs lighter. It’s going to be hard to tell the difference in weight in the real world especially once loaded up. I would only look at the xpac for added weather resistance and a different look. Hope this helps
@@gearbreakofficial Yes it does! Thank you!
Nice video! Any thoughts on the new version of the CPL28 coming out? I think I´m not a huge fan of the side ways that both the admin and laptop pocket are set on that bag, but haven´t had a chance to test them. Which one do you feel is better? And in your experience, in which bag were you able to fit more overall, the Aer or the CPL 28? Thanks!
Has a new version been announced? Or are you referring to the CTB26? I do agree about the side access being a bit of an adjustment, I also prefer vertical orientation but everything else evergoods does just speaks to me. The level of design and craftsmanship, fit and ergonomics just set evergoods on another level for me. I prefer evergoods to aer or really any other brand at the moment. And I was able to fit more in the evergoods it feels more around 30-32 liters. Hope this helps! If you have the option I would recommend ordering a couple bags and returning what you don’t like. Thats really the only way to know what works for you. Cheers!
@@gearbreakofficial Thanks for the reply! I got a bit confused, but I was speaking about the CPL28 v3. I think it´s really just down to either that one or the Aer Travel Pack Small 3, but it´s interesting how you are saying that it feels more like 30-32 liters. Definitely seems like having less pockets on the front than Aer helps the main compartment, though maybe the big laptop compartment takes away from that. How does that feel?
I packed both of them to the brim using all pockets besides the laptop compartments and I was able to fit a decent amount more in the CPL28, it also is visually a little bit bigger than the aer tp3 small
@@gearbreakofficial Thanks! You have helped to remove the Aer from contention for this purchase, really appreciate it! The only problem is now the CTB has entered the contention. Have you any comments between the difference in packability between the CTB and CPL28, like how many packing cubes they fit?
Do you think this can fit into the CTB35? Hoping to use this as a daily backpack when i get to the destination.
Oh forsure it would fit, although it will take up more room than a packable daypack. Since the CTB is pretty spacious it shouldn’t be a problem for most trips unless you really need the full capacity. Hope this helps!
Definitely helps... thanks for the quick response
Totally agree about the zippers, just returned a GORUCK X pac bag for that reason…I wanted to try AER X pac, ill pass. I cannot stand aqua guard zippers on main access parts of a bag... its a way bags can cost costs and get away without having rain flaps over the zippers which I would prefer. You shouldn't have to fight a zipper that much. Most people who buy bags like the use packing cubes, pouches and such so having the Aqua guard zippers are redundant.
Ive heard the ones on the new GoRuck xpac packs were exceptionally bad. In my experience there are more smooth and less smooth aqua guard zippers but it’s hard to know what you’re going to get and how long they’ll take to break in. Not to mention that lamination will not last as long most of these bags are designed to and will start peeling over time. Totally agree with you about the pouches thing and rain flaps. Although rain flaps can have draw backs as well depending on the pack material. My favorite would be a standard reverse coil with DWR coating as evergoods does it, if anything over time you would probably just need to reapply DWR to the zippers.
any chance you could post a link for that black durastretch pouch? great review!
The one I have is discontinued but I updated the description with a more popular one! Enjoy and Thank you!!
@@gearbreakofficial haha funny because the possum possibilities pouch is my favorite and I have five of them! that's why I was hoping to grab the one you had in your vid since it seems a bit bigger :D
Hahaha damn 😂 I’ll let you know if I end up finding it!
Actually I think I found it, check the description again 🙏🏼
@@gearbreakofficial awesome thank you so much!
Me just confused between Which is best for office use city pack pro xpac 24 or pro 24?
Because the xpac is more “crunchy” and loud, I would suggest the standard material for office use. Hope that helps!
Can't go wrong with any Evergoods bag! Good review!
100%. Thank you!!
Excited for mine bro. Orange vis is my favorite. Instant buy once I saw this on their website today. I heard this is made in Vietnam. But it wouldn’t phase me because of the scars program, How has it been holding up for you bro?
Made in Vietnam is definitely not a negative for me, the quality coming out of Vietnam is top notch! I actually ended up selling mine but kinda regret it tbh haha. Btw I see more quality control issues coming from made in America GoRucks compared to Vietnam so I wouldn’t worry at all!
I’m thinking about getting this one. I’m on the fence about which one to get; this, or the one with the gray interior. I just don’t know man. Which one do you recommend?
I think if you really want the added weather resistance go with the xpac version, if not save your money and get the ballistic one!
@@gearbreakofficial I ordered the x-pac one, shipment coming in soon. I read a lot of reviews - x-pac is liked by some and not so liked by others. It was the orange interior that swayed me on the x-pac tbh, I will see how it goes.
Awesome, congrats! I’m sure you’ll love it. ✌🏼
@@gearbreakofficial Yes, really good. It's not actually 100% water proof, but will keep 90% of your stuff dry. That's good enough for me, when I was caught in monsoon-type weather recently. It's a solid backpack overall and looks high-end. Great storage and decent waterproofing.
Yea anything with zippers will never be monsoon proof haha I’m glad you liking it! 🙏🏼
Hi, I'm Rita from MNGARISTA. We want to work with you. How can I get in touch with you?
Hey there! Please send me an email at gearbreakpr@gmail.com ✌🏼
Great review. Was wondering why you ended up selling it?
Honestly it’s a great pack but in the end I prefer packs with a padded base (so it holds its shape when packing) and it was smaller than my CPL28 which I was attempting to replace. Also the zippers were a bit problematic on the xpac version though I’m sure over time they would ease up.
@@gearbreakofficial So what’s your go to travel pack? I also prefer the padded base.
Honestly I’ve accepted evergoods is probably the best brand out there for me. So for shorter trips I take the CPL28 and longer I take CTB35
SWEET STI, dude!
Thanks 🙏🏼
