In this video, how to stencil like a pro, we're going to give you 3 tips and techniques for beginners that will answer those questions plus more in this stencil tutorial. Whether you're looking to use stencils to add some personality to your walls or want to start a DIY project, these stencilling tips will help you avoid paint bleeding under the stencil, and give you to confidence to pick up that stencil brush and tackle any stencil project.
• Application tool: brush, dabber, sponge, or roller.
• Adhesive: Painter's tape or Spray Adhesive.
• Paint: Acrylic ( matte), chalk paint, stencil creme.
• Paint Tray: to hold paint or blend and create custom colors.
• Paper towel or Rags: To offload the paint before stencilling.
• Ruler/Tape measure: Measure and align the artwork.
• Stabilizer ( optional): Dowel, Pencil, or any stick-like tool.

I noticed that you did not use mod poge. Do you find it not necessary because of the easy tac?
No, I don't like the look Mod Podge makes on the finished pieces. If you take your time and use a super dry brush, the easy tack is enough to get a crisp result without any leftover glue on your project.
@@StnclRev wow, you actually read and responded. That is MUCH appreciated. I agree on the Mod Pog. It didn't make sense, adding a extra layer of anything between the stencil and item being stenciled. I really appreciate your responding.

What about when you are doing letters or numbers do you cut those off of the sheet especially for letters or how would you suggest to do that for say like doing names
You absolutely *could* cut the stencil. But if you don't what I do is I mark out the baseline on the project so that the letters are straight - then measure out the letters you are doing and add spacer marks for each of those. You can use a pencil or you can use painters tape or washi. I hope this helps!

Wont the spray eventually stick tightly to your project surface? That is my concern.
Nope! Because it's repositionable, it's a light tack so it doesn't transfer. But using too much right off the bat will - and why I added using the towel tip to the video to show how to remove the excess.
I'm doing letter stenciling on a tie dye shirt should I just securely tape the letters down one at a time as I do the letter
When doing individual letters I would use a ruler to space the letters out, then secure them. I've used repositionable spray on material - BUT it's very important that you don't use too much. Only a light spray just to the stencil a grip so it doesn't shift.

You bet! The brush is a trick I use all the time because I live in a very small area, and some supplies aren't readily available all the time. I have to get creative, and these are one of those times. Using a dome brush has helped my stenciling so much - had to share.

I received the nicest stencils from Stencil Revolution! I made my first project the day they arrived. Cherry blossoms. I used the first technique on the video and it turned out well for my first try. I actually stippled over some stains on a tee shirt! I learned that you can add more than one coat which I should have done. Next time! If we hadn’t moved to Jacksonville, I could have walked over to get the stencils. We used to live in Spring Hill and moved in 2020! ❄️ ** Cyndi ** ❄️

The revolution has now officially begun. There is good info here. I have used mod podge on huge Stencil Revolution stencils (3-foot giraffe as an example) and had success with light passes of spray paint. I let it dry overnight and remove with very little bleed. In my case, I am then routing out all the paint with a router on wood, so any excess can simply be sanded off with a random orbital sander. Good info here.
Thank you for being here! I plan on doing a video on spray painting - it's the quickest method of painting, but longer prep time (overspray). I've used the Modge Podge technique before I started using tack spray.
@@StnclRev I will definitely try the tack spray for the smaller and/or medium stencils -- maybe even the large ones.
